I don't think it changes much for him. Sure he's one more guy getting injured away from his shot in the immediate, but he's also not ready so if Collaros was down can almost guarantee the Bombers would have made a move on a veteran QB anyways. He's got tremendous talent, particularly with his arm, but is very raw. Keep in mind how many even quality backup CFL QB's carve up pre-season defences. Like Streveler. Even that guy Sask put in later in the game. Elgersma you could see the talent but also how raw he was with reads, the pulling down and running the ball, forcing it (which is better than the alternative of folding in the pocket). This is a learning year, next year is a competing year and Year 3 he should be pushing the starter. I hope we see some signs of life from a guy like Fletcher.

No we gave up a first to Toronto for him once he re-signed. We basically swapped our first for our own second we already traded them and there's a conditional 2nd if he re-signs here. The CFL Draft is the shits anyways. By the time a guy can really play he's a free agent free to go anywhere with no compensation. Half the time you get as good of a player out of the 3rd or 4th round as the 1st or 2nd. Much rather have a franchise QB than a draft pick.

Perkins is basically a running back. There's no way he doesn't dress for that role on game day. Elgersma doesn't factor in this season unless there are injuries to Collaros or Brown.

I don't really see the need to dress Elgersma if everyone is healthy. Perkins is an exceptional running QB on the designed run plays. It makes the wedge play that much easier if the D has to respect the fact he can also pull the ball out and run like a goddamn running back downhill at them. I think it would be a mistake to sit him down or cut him, he's a weapon. Also a guy we could consider using under the old "can have more than 1 QB on the field" rule change. How many times can you remember going through all 3 QB's in a game? Say Collaros goes out, Brown goes in. Perkins is a stop gap if you really need him to run the offense, but then you can dress Elgersma in the next game if Collaros is out.

Jake Meier is also currently 25 points lower in QBR than Brown was even in his lost season last year and Ottawa is 0-2 getting their asses kicked twice at home by two of the less competitive teams in the league from last season with barely no offense before YAB's. So the appeal to authority there isn't very strong.

Re: Dru salary. Keep in mind Ottawa ate a large chunk of the salary in the offseason bonus ($131k) so that makes him a lot more palatable for this season anyhow. There's part of the salary plus some bonuses (incl about 15k in appearance fees) that make up the rest of the $321k apparently...

I really like this trade. However the QB room plays out it is really a long term win. You can never have enough competent QBs.

And I'd much rather the occasional incorrect take...than have an empty message board.

You know, strevys energy would be a real match with what tsn tries to do in its cfl presentations. His insight as a recent player would be a big upgrade for them. They could use him a ton of different ways too.

I don't think you can ever judge a football player by their time in Ottawa. Every year the Ottawa CFL team signs a bunch of promising free agents and every year, they never get any better. There's been a weird vortex over that town since the early eighties that prevents the assembly of talent into football teams. Greg Bell this year, for example -- last year he was lethal in the open field and could deke any player in the CFL one-on-one ... and this year he looks like like he's old and tired and didn't even start the first game. (plus, I think they're running him between the tackles too much) You get guys like Stephane Jones or Josh Ranek or Josh Hardy who can prosper in Ottawa year after year, but they are weird outliers. Brown makes our team better and his ceiling is miles high. That's the only thing one can say, I think.

I’m glad pressure is off TE and he won’t have to be forced into action this year. It’s for the best. Next years camp is gonna be crazy watching him and brown go at it. Smith back in but no other changes. We are purely banking on improved execution and adjustments off the bye week. Don’t love it, but also don’t see the answer to fixing the D in roster moves that are readily available. The coaches need to earn their keep this week. Us at home off a bye week has been a struggle in the past.

I'm happy to have Brown as our #2 QB, but let's not make him into something he isn't. He was the worst starting QB in the league last year and lost his job to Jake Maier this year. He's like a lot of backups who, when they get their chance, don't live up to the hype.

A few years back I told anyone who would listen on this forum that Dru Brown was still our plan for ZC's eventual retirement. I don't think that KW has woke up yet, but was more or less forced to not dither because Brown was being shopped and may not have been there as a FA. Really can't make sense of this move on Ottawa's part. There had to be a clash of personalities between Dinwiddie and Brown.

QBs are a premium commodity in this league. I actually thought the cost of acquiring Dru was pretty low. He is a starting quality QB.

There are words, but not the equal of racial epithets thatve been used on subjugated minorities. Honky has meaning to some one i’m sure, but it doesn’t have any power to make people feel maligned. Many of the white derogatory terms come from other white people. We’ve both been to places in the southern us where you palpably feel the difference. We have the awareness and diverse experience to recognize it. But we’ll never know how that feels for the other side. Even in places where we are not welcome or out of place for racial reasons. The experience of growing up in that, and it being over top of you and all like you for generations with countless atrocities under its belt, just isn’t understandable from the outside side. Similarly, attempts to replicate it just aren’t the same.

Could be ZC has already decided this was going to be his last year, regardless of how things play out. If the club knows this, it would make sense to pull the trigger on the trade, even if it makes for a full QB room.

That's true. But when given time to throw and a competent running game, he's shown he can lead an offense fairly well. Ottawa was a dumpster fire for many reasons and it wasn't all on the QB.

I don't think they signed Maier until after his roster bonus. Still makes zero sense no matter how you slice it. I really think that Brown was the plan and him and Dinwiddie just couldn't see eye to eye. Just my opinion though. Gotta be something we as fans don't know because on the surface it is completely illogical.

And maybe we are feeling things out...If Dru comes in...especially next yr and light's it up, and still young for a QB maybe we are gonna hitch our wagon to him longterm and keep Perkins as a #2 and SY guy...especially if he really develops and adapts his skill set to the CFL and we trade TE...I sure some team would give up the goods...or maybe we seeing things in him in practice that the NFL teams saw as well when nobody took a chance on him...and he is not exuding future star And to be honest I could care less about a Canadian QB...I want the best available under center...Not some hyped QB cause he Canadian, Former NFL 1st round pick who flamed out...find and play the best...period Sucks Clark is out...kills it on teams...Nice Smith is back tho That Field side WR spot tho just so sad and lame and does nothing for ZC or the offense in general.. yup...I mentioned that as well...Condell should utilize him in 2QB sets...get ball in his hands in space...be more effective/productive than ball in Corc/Cobb value meal garbage we run out there...Limited plays each game he would outproduce both them in production for the yr....imagine a wee bit more than minimum Cutting or sitting him when he has been successful in every sneak and not even an issue once...and could break one for huge gains and has to be respected as mentioned would be a colossal stupid move...so sadly based on history and Osh in general..I am prepared for the stupid move but will be pleasantly shocked and happy if we make the competent move..guess we will see in an hour or so when DC comes out

we might use the reserve roster for qb4 as well. 4 qbs is the standard carry and perkins has been exceptional in short yardage. I’d eat my hat if he was cut imminently.

He also has got hurt doing it...several times...id keep him away from it As a qb3 TE will never see the field..and Perkins so far has been lights out doing it..so why change what's not broken? So rostering TE to stand around won't develop him anymore than as the reserve guy getting full pay but just not dressing Plus...maybe Condell can use him in 2 qb sets and get ball in his hands in space..he would do a hell of a lot more integrated into offence on a few plays a game than Corcoran or Cobb will do all yr combined..there is that aspect to keeping him
