  1. Bailey over Kornelson makes a lot of sense. MOS not so much. So 9 linebackers, are we using a ton of 3-4? A rookie Canadian WR as the only back up is also a head scratcher. I wish we had media that actually asked MOS questions.

  2. Don't like Jonathan Jones being scratched. Should have been Kyrie. Don't like only one American DT. Kornelson feels like Win A Day as a Bomber (yuck).

  3. It is relevant. Injuries affect everyone differently. don't know how that injury will affect him. He may be able to put it out of his mind & play or it may change his style of play. As Booch said on another thread, Streveler has reinvened himself as a qb throwing the new way so his fundamentals now are very good. I"ve been following Chris on Instagram this off season in Arizona & I've sent video clips to Booch & others here so we've all seen the transformation. He doesn't look like a qb who just wants to be known for his tough running ability anymore. He want to be known as a qb who can win games with his arm as well for the Bombers. This is his time to show he can play.

  4. I love this opinion, especially from someone who loves to throw out “and I did football clinics so trust me bro” whenever it suits their own agenda. Newsflash: Walters and O’Shea haven’t made decisions that resulted in a Grey Cup win for three seasons now. That means that their decisions, which are based off their own opinions not fact, are not infallible.

  5. I don't know who Drury is but Demski played receiver his entire U Sports career. Safety to DB or OLB to DE is hardly the transition that moving a guy from a option program in high school and NCAA at running back to playing receiver in Canadian football would be. I'd put Bailey in there for some rotational reps. But he's hardly jumped off the screen. I'm not sure why we assume our whole coaching staff has vendettas on certain guys while all the players can do is talk about how much they want to be part of this team even when they aren't on it. Where's all the former players trashing our organization if there's deep seated problems? Best field CB in the league when he played here. Not so hot against BC Week 1.

  7. yeah I was just counting up....so again....just a poor choice....that and or the Canadian bias Osh has....Bailey woud serve more usefulness and impact than either of those guys

  8. Milt admitted he wasn't the fastest player on the field at the start of the game, but by the end of the game everyone else had dropped off and he was still running the same speed.

  9. Gotta say....kind of rich seeing people complain about someone at LB being listed as a DE but wanting a total 4 back his whole life turned into a slotback for Game 1 of his pro career. Think you could probably slot Bailey in on the DL, but he was also pretty pedestrian in the pre-season. It's not like a "OMG, how can you leave that guy off" situation. We're going off his college stats to some extent in being excited about the potential. Wilson is cooked, so pretty sad that he's one of two American LB's we're going to use. Who is watching and reporting on actual practice?

  10. Imo, the top teams are not. Montreal walked away from Fajardo, Toronto cut Carey, Bc moved on from Vaj, and others. The bottom tier of teams (Edmonton, Calgary, and Hamilton) brought in wholesale change, adding top-level talents. We are basically on the treadmill tier with Ottawa. I bet the opponent looks at a few positions and say ok, how can we exploit this? Last year, teams exploited our DL not by attacking our weakest guys but by gang blocking WJ and forcing us to beat better blockers 1 on 1 with green under performers. They treated our WR core and OL similarly.

  11. and with two DE's over 30...you dont wanna run them out every snap....so why not having a true end to compliment them is just stupid...Sure Adams can do it...but he isnt a legit end and takes away from what he can do inside...and If I see JT on the end again I will literally go on the feild and personally take him out...so you'all will enjoy that site hahaha we can be very effective in a lot of 30 fronts with a combination of WJ....JV....Lawson....Adams......Woods and Person if they got rostered in various set ups...not with Thomas or god forbis Korn in place of any one of them...I sure we will see it tho...and they will be washed away or just ran right past

  12. Maybe I am overreacting, but seeing what is arguably a worse starting roster than last year, in a Grey Cup year, is super disappointing. I will probably eat my words when we stomp the Farhan's tomorrow, but man the wind is out of my sails right now.

  13. Amidst all the consternation I am glad to see we are finally starting Devin Adams

  14. Schoen coming off injury and nobody listed as a "starter" over him....was hurt later in previous season too....This just Osh doing his usual....He like Thomas...thinks he's good....and he gonna play him....plain and simple You get the wind with game reps....not practice....and realy...Thomas looks winded after every snap...some snaps he has to usa a hand to hold his head up...basically eliminating any hand use to beat a blocker J.Jones out...is just wrong on many levels...I'd ask for my release as he would be snapped up and in any teams game day lineup in an instance....and if they intend to use Ayers at end...then why not dress a true end?....and are we not allowed 2 globals...Why was Bailey omitted we have 7 guys listed that are essentially DB's....10 guys at linebacker if you include Ayers as thats what he is...and there was no way...or desire to dress Woods...Person's on the dline but the need was there to dress Thomas and Kornelson...a rookie who showed nothing in 2 camps? smh
    4 points
  15. SO...we have 2 DE's....have Bailey and Person who both showed they can play yet dress Ayers as the rotational DE?....Ok...tell me the sense there? Our best LB in J, Jones doesn't even make roster in lieu of 2 guys who are average at best,,,and one injury prone...he's legit if an when healthy and can stay healthy...but that a big if Schmeckle cant even make this yrs lineup over a guy who showed absolutely nothing...and he's still here then why? 3 Canadian DT's only 1 of which who is usefull...and 1 legit American DT...Thomas as a "starter" ....nuff said....gonna be same ol same ol again this yr too bad Osh has the wrong guys on it

  20. Kyrie needs to come out playing like his hair is on fire. Like the peak former level of play. And he needs to stay healthy, then maintain that level. Aside from the injuries themselves, the thing that kills Kyrie is that after he comes back from injury, it takes him a good month to get back up to his best level of play. Even then, I didn't see any signs of that old Kyrie at all this preseason/camp. I like the player Ayers is. He has tremendous instincts, football IQ, and willingness to do whatever it takes to make a play. I think that's a guy you get on the field, any place you can. He's athletic enough and smart enough to make plays at basically any level of the defence. My big concern with him on the DL is that he is such a grinder, he could get hurt and worn out really fast. The guy only has 1 gear, and he's not used to facing an OL every snap. I'm glad Ayers and Vaval made it onto the game day roster. I'm glad Adams is in and starting, I'm glad Smith and Shay are in. I hope they get some actual snaps. I'm also glad we are going 3 imp OL. Parker needs to show out imo. We are really deep and young at DB. I hope he's back to his best form. Having gone from Lawler to Sterns in the WR core year over year is disappointing. He needs to show out too.

  21. If rebusrankin is right and we run a bunch of 30 front again it makes some sense. We did that a lot last year, but barely did it in pre season/camp. Even at that though, our DTs aren't guys who are effective on the edge of a 30. Its basically just Adams, who is the only imp DT.
    3 points
  22. 10...Ayers is a LB not a DE J. Jones is the killer....hard hitter...great tackler....just bends guys when he lays into them....T.Jones should not be ahead of him....but tenure and here before holds precedence over the best option...Especially if Osh has a chubber for u
    3 points
  23. All that potential shown in camp and preseason and we trot out last years team. Still no killers on defence. If you're not getting better, you're getting worse. If a single receiver goes down we are absolutely ******, but at least we dressed 17 Canadian linebackers.

  24. It’s not like it wasn’t expected, but that depth chart is so deflating. We always hope for no injuries, obviously, but with this lineup, we really need to stay healthy because we are crazy thin in some key spots. Ugh.

  25. He had "character" which is significantly more important then football skills and athletic ability.

  26. and both Novack and Kornelson...both of whom likely get zero reps of significance....especially Korn as Novack at least plays teams and is solid there...Bailey excluded for Korn makes zero sense...Bailey can take legit reps on defense...and plays teams

  27. People talking about having cooley as the emergency back up imp wr/package guy being crazy, meanwhile our only back up WR is Corcoran. Guy has great hands, but runs like an OL, and is a rookie canadian lol. Some how Thomas back over Lawson, go figure. Pretty funny. Im sure ayers isn't actually gonna take reps at DE right? We didn't use him there at all in camp pre season or previously. I kind of would've liked to see that though. He's soo dynamic, quick and strong he could actually be deadly at end. If he was given time, practice and training. Hate that the good jones is out, hate more that kyrie is in. But not surprised. I just don't get the move to bring him in. 2 imp DBs is a spicy pick. Don't love that. Glad Vaval is returning and playing, though. Single injury away from doing some crazy stuff at most positions. Basically all of them but DB. It is a bit worse than I expected. And stranger than I would've thought. Thats like having a drag race with 2 shopping carts that combine for 3 wheels. I suspect you're right too. I wonder if Lawsons late recovery is why he's behind Thomas now. Giving him time to get his wind back.

  28. a guy mind you who had zero experience as a FB....And minimal experience even as a football player until he was in his 30's.....that made even more sense right?
    3 points
  29. Well pick the correct Jones at least... Osh gotta get over this incumbent bias.

  30. With all the cap room, I guess they are going to use the one game as an extension of the practice roster.

  31. Or blocker. People's eyes get really big. So we're impressed with how the guy runs the ball. Now let's get him to do something he's never done in his life in pro football...while someone else does all the running of the ball. Be patient. We'll need the guy at some point I'm sure.

  32. I like that we have three young Canadian linebackers in the mix. I hope that means they're ok with sitting an american linebacker (Kyrie) but not holding my breath. Don't get the appeal of Sterns. Guy was a JAG is Sask.

  33. It is intriguing as heck what Cooley could do. If anything else, its time for an offense to come up with something new.
    3 points
  34. My only concern about Cooley is that he's never been a receiver. He said himself that he's only ever been a power back. Our first pre season game was the first screen pass he ever caught. It feels like it's asking a lot of a guy to step in and take the place of someone that's an actual receiver with years of experience running routes and catching balls.

  35. Yeah probably should have expected this. Going into the first game they want some consistency.

  37. It's the ultimate anachronism in football. Paul brown thought that the longest distance players had to run was 40 yards on punt returns. So they timed the 40 to see if guys would be fast enough to cover punts. Its from the early 60s, a time when they didn't have better analytical tools. Its pretty crazy they still cling to it. Yup. Those smooth, fast guys who make others look slow. Tbh that really seems to lack from pass rushers up here these days. We don't see many rushers who can bend the ol then break it back. It can be a decent tool to identify outliers, but sometimes you see guys who are drastically faster on the field or in the 20-yard range than their combine time. Like Grant.

  38. ability to cut...pivot and make a move without gearing down....thats what you look for...Best guy we had that I recall doing that was Denmark...he could do all that at speed and then even hit another gear...I dont think he rarely ever got caught in chase...and always got that seperation away from guys and seemed to get a lot of big plays where it was appeared to be a busted coverage...far from it....he busted the DB into silly mode Same with DB's and the fluidity and abilty to swivel...Parker is amazing at it....but best I seen in a Bomber camp in a long time tho was a guy some might remember..Marquise Fitzgerald...he was amazing....played well when he got the chance but I think injuries killed his career

  39. There's a bit of viral video going around of Justin Jefferson basically saying the same thing. No one knows who the fastest HOF Wr is (it's Milt...but that's beside the point). Mostly because speed isn't the biggest metric when it comes to success at that position. Route running and the ability to create separation is far more important.
    2 points
  40. Never quite understood the fascination with 40 times. On the football field rarely are you running a 40 in a straight line. Football speed is an entirely different metric and a lot of times it is not the guy with the best 40 that has it.
    2 points
  41. yup....and it seemed he really struggled to make adjustments....or was just too stubborn to That's why having Jackson here is gonna be huge...Look what he did in Edm with his guys....Brown...Leake...among others...plus were they not the highest scoring offensive points per game and yards?....If only they had a defense

  42. Stats without context don't mean a hell of a lot... What were the situations in which those stats were accumulated? The bulk of strevelers starts came in his first year as a complete raw rookie early in the year or in year 2 when the team was in the midst of battling for playoff positions... and last year he played more fullback that qb for whatever reason.. When did Ford play? Was it when the elks were already out of contention?
    2 points
  43. This is where familiarity bias is stepping in. BC dressed an American fullback who played zero snaps literally last week.

  44. I would rotate Cooley with a slot. I’d have him run screens, motion plays, and block instead of big Kev. He hasn’t had much reps pass catching or blocking but he showed a real aptitude for it. I would also have him return kick offs with the punt returner and have him fielding punts in practice. He agreed not to and in exchange they gave him 1 game instead of 2. Really hate it, no precedent for these suspensions. Yep. Plus, in a league where every one is trying to run variations of the same offence, going against the grain can be a huge advantage. Defences today struggle with run fits against one rb, that’s part of why jet motion is soo effective. You are already pulling a db or two into the fits, now you can force the 3rd best run stopping db to be in the front side of the run play. If you read / use zone to get a dl/lber out of the play good luck stopping Cooley and Brady.

  45. Yeah i dunno what happened but it really seemed like buck got dumb last year.
    2 points
  46. Yeah. From zachs off season comments especially. But we also saw a few other signs. Last year mid season ish zach commented about having the play call go too long in the head set at times, which we saw on field frustration from him a few times as well. Covering his ears, hurry up signal to buck on the play call, buck coming down out of the booth during the losing streak etc. for guys like Buck and zach it was just about every red flag you’ll see.

  47. How many snaps did the entire league play last season with 2 tailbacks on the field? I'd be surprised if it was more than 100 and probably 90 of them were Toronto. Castillo, Griffin (DB), D Mitchell, American LB/DL
