Greaves traded

An observation: it seems that our collective assessment of Greaves' decline over the past 12 months was accurate. Another consensus we have is that Chevon Walker is dead weight, as is Picard. This move means that our GM is paying attention, and so are the coaches, so the departures of Picard and Walker may not be that far away, and its all good. For all the concerns we have about the coaches, we can take our eyes off Walters.

Then why did this GM sign Walker just a week ago?

That is a puzzlement. Perhaps there was a hole to fill and nobody else was available.

Is Walters going to fire Bellefeille?

Walters brings in Walker but Bellefeille refuses to run the ball. Very strange. It's almost as if they are following different play books.

Had to laugh at this

Chris Greaves immediately becomes the Edmonton Eskimos best offensive lineman. IMO Plus, he still has a lot of play left. #bombers #cfl

Speaks to his lack of objectivity.

The Esks are going to be disappointed when they realize Steele was a better option.

Speaks to the fact he hadn't heard that O'Donnell had signed with the Esks when he tweeted that.

Or that the only Esks OL he can think of is Sorenson.

This is a good trade for the Bombers in our current situation.  Chris Greaves seems like a class act who always represented himself and this organization with distinction, and was always one of the first faces the Bombers sent out for meet and greets because of that.  I wish him all the best in Edmonton and hope he remains part of the community in Winnipeg during the offseason.

I like this trade and I hope it means we are considering starting 3 American OL.

It's too bad that we put 5 years into Greaves and then he's gone for a second round pick but what can you do? Gotta make a move if it's not working out anymore.

Hey, we picked him up in the 5th or 6th round, got years of service out of him, and have now flipped him for a starter-ish, and a second rounder. That's pretty impressive.

Sure its not a bad result, better than cutting him in his first training camp like most 6th round picks. But I'd rather have a competent starting left guard than a second round pick at the moment.

It feels like Greaves was competent for years... hell the last 2-3 years (this year not included) he sometimes felt like the only guy on the Oline performing (him and maybe January).

It seems like he lost his step this year

We've been trying to get rid of Greaves since we signed Bryant and Picard in the offseason. I'm surprised that we got as much for him as we did. The 2nd round pick will come in handy next year to get a top 10 draft pick. Edmonton won't have to start a DT in their O line from now on, which should make them better and they don't need the O lineman they traded now that they've got Greaves.

What's that say about the guy we got when we know Greaves isn't very good?

Edmonton had a lack of good interior Canadian OL but had a few experienced American OL around.  Edmonton is probably moving to a 4 NI OL with O'Donnell back in the fold so they can afford to get rid of an American tackle.

But more than anything, this trade was Greaves for a second round pick.  Capers is just a throw-in.  He may never even start a game for us.

Exactly this....it's all about us essentially getting into the first round...

This is a good move for Greaves, with Edm. he has a better chance of adding serious playoff money to his current contract.

We're basically guaranteed the 9th overall pick... cuz if it's not the Edm (via Sask) pick then it's probably out own 2nd rounder!

Chances are he won't be very good.  Edmonton's OL aren't exactly world beaters and have been banged up and Capers was still on the fringe.

The 2nd round pick is very good though.  An asset until it's used on a guy to chase kicks.
