2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

Wow...is he an example of the kind of great candidates Ambrosie has been talking to? If so the Als are toast.

Some owners have done stuff like this, al davis back in the day for instance. I feel like this is a case of a small time owner who wants the prestige of pro sports rather then getting some one big enough that they dont have to micro manage the team. Need more bob youngs and less of this junk.

QFT

At least Al Davis had some back ground in football.

I am sure he approached them

Sign him, bring back LaFrance and make a trade for Lyles!

I want ALL the Winnipeg tailbacks.  We need the full set!

You can have Lafrance.

Guzzo's response is even more telling.  Claims he told Maciocia he could choose the 6 "primary important positions" but should prioritize QC university athletes for the rest.

This guy would be a disaster as owner, I'm sure of it.

Roster decisions based on uninformed and arbitrary criteria?

Kavis Reed is intrigued...

Fun fact:  You don't know what their offer is or what kind of candidate they'll be until you've actually talked with them.

Al Davis was a very successful coach and GM first.  He was also a great owner for decades.  Unfortunately, age is inexorable and people remember him for the last several years when he was not as sharp.

Davis stood up to the NFL and the whole league became far better for it.

No doubt, what davis did with the AFL, and the NFL merger was gigantic. He must be rolling around in his grave with a relocation still pending for (i think?) 2020 to vegas. However his micro managing and front office antics will live on in the greatest infamy.

Like all historic greats, he deserves to be recognized for his fantastic contributions. But its equally important to keep the grain of salt in the forefront. Paul Brown has seen a kind of cleansing at the hands of history due to the effect of rose tinted glasses.

Davis doesn't give two shits about Oakland.  He was trying to move the team all the time to get money out of governments.

No he would be happy this what he wanted all along someone to build him a new stadium.

🤔 we had 12,000 viewers for our live stream last week. 3,500 from Mexico, 1,500 from the United States and 1,000 from Germany. Average viewing time was 1h 47m.

....and that was just the kicker's relatives.

Really nice sitting here waiting for the Bomber game to start and watching football on TV

Present first quarter scores: Hamilton 7 Toronto 3 - Montreal 8  Ottawa 6

Montreal's offence could surprise people this year if Pipkin works out. They have some good weapons.

Those new Als uniforms are a hideous rip-off of the University of Virginia's.

Thousand from Germany? Nice! That’s a pleasant surprise.

I'm not sure how much of his real life personality is true... but I watched Dragon's Den this season and Guzzo was an egotistical knob.  The Mike Kelly of owners....

Not totally his fault, imo.

We tried to make him into Andre Durie 2.0. Square Peg, Round hole.
