Not enough quality Canadians to start. Maybe even 5.

I think 6 is ok... there are currently 9x7 starters = 63... 10 teams with 6 starters each is 60 starters league-wide... realistically the union is never going allow the league to go from 63 starting jobs for Canadians down to 50...

A quote from a Kirk Penton insider:

Randy) Ambrosie has never once talked to a group of coaches about anything. Coaches will leave the league, and the quality of play will suffer. Young Canadian coaches will be hurt by the capping of the number of coaches on staff, so they will not be able to get quality control jobs and grow into position coaches. Someone should ask Ambrosie if he and his staff are going to match the 10 percent pay cut (Chris) Jones and the Riders took? Do some teams have too large of staffs?  Yes, but work together to find a compromise with coaches and operations. This guy just is something else. Instead of trying to drum up football in Mexico, promote our players and game more here.

Chris Jones is a hero.

I'm sure the fact that the media knew about his paycut immediately... was purely coincidence... but hey, if I made $600,000 a year, I could probably live with a 10% cut...

So, what will the Riders do with their increased net revenue? Will they cut (or maintain) prices for tickets/concessions?

League adds official for headshots .

Because it's CFL officiating we're dealing with here....

This guarantees a headshot will be called late in a game.

Will set up a score especially in a low scoring game.

Will be instrumental in the game's outcome.

Replay will be shown over and over and everyone will say "that's a headshot"???

League will ignore outrage.

"We erred on the side of caution. We believe in player safety"

Media will pretend they had nothing to with ginning up panic on headshots and shaming Ambrosie into an overreaction.

Media will attack officiating for ruining a game with a bad call.

The "problem" remains a problem.

Yeah, this whole idea thrown together at the last minute seems terrible. It is destined for failure, and you know they will be watching the team (the Bombers) that was the final straw in all of this that much closer. I fully expect us to get screwed by this on Sunday.

Also, they are only watching the QB? Why? That is so stupid. If you put a spotter up there, allow him to call headshots on receivers or RBs too. Or just have the command center do it.

God, this is all so dumb.

The NCAA targeting rule has been terrible for the game.  And yet, leagues are forced to follow it because to do otherwise exposes them to litigation.  The problem most often is that person turtles when expecting impact, dropping their head.  The defender aims for the strike zone and finds it has shrunk at the point of impact.  Players are ejected from a game, altering the competitive balance.

And in the end, there is no difference to player safety.

Actually I have watched a lot of college football this year and if the player puts himself in vulnerable position they have overturning the targeting penalty. It has to be a clear hit with crown of the helmet of the defending player.

Jeffcoat would not of been ejected in a NCAA game for targeting.

They will go after BoLevi or Reilly with the money.

Self preservation dictates Jones pretty much has to obtain a high quality QB this off-season.  Without a better starting QB than they currently employ they don't even make the playoffs next season and the steely knives will be drawn for blood.

Why would you go play for Jones and McAdoo if you're Reilly or BLM? You can get paid where you are right now. If you're MR, BC is really close to Eastern Washington where you live at least part of the year.

Putting another person on the field seems kind of disruptive.  It's hard for me to imagine another legit professional sports league doing something like this in the middle of the playoffs.

The missed call was due to human error. So solution is to add another human? If officials angle of vision is blocked like last week what's stopping it from happening to the extra one?

I'm  more worried about a ref being added for one purpose being extremely motivated to make sure he makes calls. I predict some soft calls this weekend.

It's like when any level of government says they're going to "crackdown" on something. Then they brag about results and the difference they are making in our lives.
