Yep.
We had go to plays, the problem is, it's the same go to play that lapo installed in 2019. Smash and drive passing concept, with a play action and a half roll out. Without Lawler, we don't have the wideout who can run the shallow corner well enough. Lawler could beat his man with his get off and break. That meant he was open and still had a ton of room on the sideline. Guys like Wheatfall might get open, but by the time they do with just speed and not the polished route running, they are too close to the sideline. With Lawler, Zach could either throw a very safe pass to the sideline and let him run it down, or if the DB is cheating or trailing, he could lob it and let Kenny run under it. Very similar to the Dagger variation we ran, where Schoen would go on a deep in route, and Lawler would go on a deep out route (Instead of a post). Where even if we didn't get guys open, zach would roll out the rest of the way, drawing the D to him, then hitting the come back from schoen or lawler.
We used to have lots of go-to plays. Slip screens, bubble screens, Fake bubble jet sweep, etc. The whole play action jet sweep used to be our bread and buter as much as the run was. Most of that stuff has been gone for 2 seasons.
Everything our offence has done since 21 has been continually devolving. Buck took the training wheels off our offence, let zach go wild with deep shots, and showed great promise in game plan development with some tremendous screen pack based games, pa, layering, and route developement. But since then, we've only lost what we succeeded at.
