2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

This isn't exclusive to the riders, teams do it all the time. Veteran leadership is a way to excuse lack of production. Bighill is making pretty good money to have 35 tackles isn't he?? He is done, but he is a hell of a leader isn't he?

Here you are trolling again.

We are fine with our MLB on our best defence jn the league.

Take this **** back to your brain dead fan site.

I found it neither funny nor interesting. 😎

“We joke about it now, but I don’t think it’s a joking matter when we say those days are over. You don’t have those six, seven, eight guys you know are going to be around and who want to be around who form the core of your team. This has become somewhat of a journeyman league, which doesn’t necessarily bode well for fan interest.” - Hervey

Sounds rough...  just can't keep a team core together anymore...  says the guy who raided everyone else's free agents to build a giant mess

Yeah, paying Reilly what he did was crazy. He just drove up the price for qbs.

Maybe Hervey doesn’t have 6-8 core guys that want to stick with his team... but I guarantee O’Shea and Walters have that many or more that want to play for them...

No way he will be back IMO.

Yeah that falls on pretty deaf ears cause we got some guys who have been here long term and want to stay here long term... Maybe Hervey shouldn't contribute to the problem and build a team the way Kyle Walters did... drafting drafting drafting and more drafting.

His rope is already too short to try that approach now.

Still suffering from a concussion I see... Weird how you ignore the rest of his stat line (1 sack, 1 INT, 1 forced fumble) and the fact the D-line was beefed up to take the pressure off of him - unlike last season.

Montreal was in the middle of a 25 year grey cup draught then so we can handle them as long as its the 80's allouettes too.  No cups between 77 and 02

Riders might be able to handle the 80s Allouettes this week. A lot of those guys would be in their 60s now.

In this day & age, money usurps loyalty. If a bigger contract is available then players leave.  Even if they love playing for the old team they were with. They are always one hit away from leaving the game permanently so they have to do what they need to do financially.  Longer term contracts are what is needed.

List the other teams who blew cap space on an uncoachable punter just so they could have an our boy who made it big comes home story. Go.

Bighill as well missed what..4 games too..and was obviously hurt when he came back

But he doesnt have to do it all this yr anyway..so will have less stats..and also less runs against us where a LB piles up stats.

He is part of the top defense..so must be doing something right

Hey now, get those facts outta here... one isolated stat is all you need to evaluate a player...

Teams have completely given up the run against us fairly consistently... it's hard for the MLB to get tackles when teams completely abandon the attack vector which will net him tackles

Hard to convince guys to sign long-term when teams turn around and can cut them without an compensation, etc...  Matthews is actually a good example

That's what properly structured bonuses are for.

I actually don't think its a bad thing... way better than NHL where you get stuck with overpaid aging vets until they're 37 because you lost your mind one free agency

Don't bring common sense into the conversation with  Ripper.

Powell, their prize offensive FA, got 4 carries last Saturday.

Funny that he talks about Harris' age, but forgets Powell is basically the same age.

Hey cmon - that's 'load management' just like Kawhi ...   Dickenson realized that the Riders were completely outclassed and decided to rest the league's best running back in anticipation of a game they could actually win...  brilliant and classy...  just amazing really.
