  1. Condell has had success with good RBs in the past. He hasn't run an offense that leads he league in rushing, but he hasn't ever had the best back in the league or a top-tier guy either. I mean, the RBs kept starting a WR at RB rather than bringing in a real one. As others have said, I have to believe that with brady locked up on a monster deal, that part of the due diligence was making sure Condell would fit in here with the balanced attack at the very least. Also, him constantly being behind other offensive minds and running other systems, I tend to think he will either run the successful stuff we've had prior to the last 2 years or has some great ideas and hasn't been able to fully show them. It's far from my favorite pick for OC. But at the very least, I expect a good improvement. Yeah, Hogan and Buck in his last year really seemed to be at odds and out of sync with Zach. He was furious so often because the calls from both came in ridiculously slowly. Which means you break the huddle late, have to rush lining up, and get significantly less time to survey the D in the pre-snap read. I can't emphasize enough how important an extra 4 seconds breaking the huddle are. Little on if you break the huddle and start lining up before the D. We used to reap huge advantages from being set way ahead of the D, and running any play out of any formation. That has been completely gone for 2 years. Not only does it make it harder to pass and run RPO, but it also makes it harder to protect the QB. \ Condell, as an OC, gets a C grade from me right now. I worry that it will be a high-floor, low-ceiling pick, but time will tell, and I am fine giving him the benefit of the doubt. He also worked very well with Dru, which bodes well for fit with Zach imo.

  2. He's just been around long enough to have had years at the top and years around the bottom. Ultimately your play caller is affecting a small chunk of your production. It's up to the talent you have and whether your OL can block anyone especially in pass pro. He'll look like a ******* genius if they have the best OL in the league. Let's hope Zach can make his pee tests this year.

  3. Agree. Whether he is great or not he's a huge upgrade on Hogan. He'll at least have implemented a full CFL playbook.

  4. so Demski is getting 240k next...245k in 27" with some in that yr gauranteed....all things considered a good deal for us with

  5. If we could land him at a nice price.....with Pokey...Demski...and whomever after that it would be a great situation....I could see him being a WR that ZC has a real good chemistry with and allow room for others to come free

  6. Can't discount that he knows Zach too. Hell maybe he'll bring Hardy with him as a bonus

  7. Although I was taught not to assume, I'm assuming he was informed of that in the interview process so there should be no confusion in the identity we want to set offensively.

  8. anyway you slice it...an upgrade and we can only benefit from his hire...Hopefully he realizes he has a feature back to ride, as he tends to neglect the run and force the passing game, and based on BO comments I'm sure he would not have signed here yet...if at all if he didnt get some input and or re-assurance that Condell is gonna use him as the focal point of his offence...He was likely agreed as OC before BO...and Demski signed

  11. What's JY's status? I know people get frustrated by the lack of pressure, but by the numbers we were the top D in the league last year. Are we in danger of a downgrade there? (we were the best in defensive points allowed, but were not the best in total points against. Lots of points scored on turnovers against us.)

  12. That bar is set @ or below ground level...

  13. yeah, you look at how Buck lost his shine here right around the time that our OL hit the skids and Collaros started tossing tons of picks -- then he goes to BC where he's got the legit MOP, a good back, receivers five deep and a line that can pass protect ... and now he looks like a genius and we'd take him back in a second. Crum surpassed my expectations last year. Showing steady upward progress. Wonder what his ceiling is? Would be happy to see him at QB2 in blue.

  14. Wow, didn’t realize he’d been around so long. He was the Bombers special teams coach under Reinbold in 1997.

  16. it's an interesting year for free agent QBs. Ordinarily there's an obvious matchup of free agent QB and rebuilding team (like Brown in Ottawa, VAJ in Calgary, Fajardo in Montreal, etc). This year the top free agents are MBT, Crum and Powell, but there's no obvious landing spots for them. Really curious to see where Powell's head is at given that BLM just resigned for two years and Powell got no snaps last year.

  17. An upgrade in the sense that a kick in the ass is better than a kick in the junk. Not super excited, but obviously anything is better than what we had this past year.

  18. Pimpleton....but believe he signed thru next yr Crum could follow tho as a opp to be 2nd string/Short yardage guy...Adeboboye I'd make an offer to as well as Canadian depth that wont break the bank

  19. Condell is a pretty solid hire I think. He crafted some very good offenses in Hamilton previously. Clear upgrade at OC.

  20. It would be a great disappointment if they hired Condell because like you say, he's just a poor man's recycled version of Paul LaPolice. Condell will be under a lot of pressure to use Brady the team has committed the next three years to Brady & paid him $$$ to keep him here. Four or 5 touches just won't cut it. But historically, as far as the run game goes, he'd a terrible choice. So, we'll see. Also, not a fan of his dink & dunk offense. We might be better off just hiring LaPo again. However, if Hogan is gone then I'll applaud that. He was so bad. I'd have liked to see Jarious Jackson given a chance at OC. he'd have been my choice.

  21. All he has to do is have a great oline to work, a semi decent receiving core, feed the ball to BO to establish the run and have ZC spread the ball around short, mid and long range with some creativity to keep the D off balance. Easy peasy.

  22. That’s a surprise to me. Most prominently Condell ran a lot of what june jones brought in previously in hamilton, but each year trimmed it back and found less success. His 13-15 stretch with zach in hamilton has to be the main reason for this move. Those were zachs good years in hamilton before the down fall. Still not great years for him, but very good. His semi recent offences have been allergic to the run game. BUT, he did run the riders in 06 with kenton keith tearing things up before going to the nfl. He had kerry joseph that year and was the pass game coach in ott the previous two years with him. So moderate offensive success with hank burris, kerry joseph, and zach. Also with backs like gable, keith and had solid success with guys like armstead, stanback and others. He struggled a lot over many years in two stints with masoli, mbt, franklin and a host of others. A good chunk of his years up here as a CO has been under hcs who are offensive guys. Trestman, kent austin, Danny barrett, joe paopao as well as running june jones offense. I don’t love this move. Hes basically hamiltons version of lapo. He was solid with dru brown but not great with out him. And really fell back on brown just going out and beating defences. Never saw great game planning, play call or adjustments. Didn’t see him deal with adversity well either.

  23. His run with Ottawa was underwhelming but they are a perennial tire fire so not sure how much that falls on him In 2025, Ottawa finished sixth in net offence, eighth in offensive points, and ninth in yards per play but was 2nd in offensive time of possession. Long way to say his offense had plenty of opportunity but produced very little. He does have history with Zach so maybe he can bring some old ZC out.

  24. Yeah...use 2025 for 2026 and be able to be a bigger spender in FA when you have some money for your higher priced Canadians and players paid with 2025 spare sheckles

  26. not bad. Hopefully some money buried this year/ in appearances as well. I’m very sure he will be back. Love jy, if we ever take the training wheels off his D it’ll be unbeatable. Agree. Edmonton and kelly are the only major pair I see happening. I would love powell or even crum. I think mbt will join his ancestors in the after (football) life.

Reading stuff on the internet about Nyquist and Toews being potential trade options for the Jets to part ways with, I get how current journey man Nyquist might be a better fit with another team cuz he's done that in the last while that might work get him going but not the same with Toews imo. I don't see how a different environment than what Winnipeg has created for him to excel could possibly be better to get him going unless you put him with McDavid oe McKinnon. But that's just me. I so wish this had worked out.

  30. Adeboboye signed an extension this month, too. I'm not holding my breath on us luring guys with Condell. The lowest level in ages. Hogan is an all-time bad OC. Worse than some of the OC by committee we ran. Worse than belifool too imo. Worse than the constant wildcat and spread offense legend that never materialized success up here.

  31. It's an upgrade but not a solid one. Just his history & struggles with the run games as OC in Hamilton & Ottawa makes me wary. They better ttell him if he comes to Winnipeg, the offense goes thru Brady Oliveira not Nic Demski... But if they're choices one & two for Zach this may work. I'm hoping we sign an impact OL in free agency.

  32. Doesnt matter what we think. if the players have confidence in him, such as Zac its a big head start over Hogan who had very little
    1 point
  33. I'll take signing a guy with at least some proven success over a complete unknown like Hogan. It can only get better then what we had last year. If we can get a proven receiver who doesn't necessarily have to be the #1 guy in free agency but someone who has at least been consistent and healthy that would be a good start. Unfortunately the albatross of a contract with Zach really will make or break the team. He's a huge liability and has had 2 terrible seasons in a row. I don't know how Condell can fix a guy with a shot arm who throws into triple coverage at the worst times.

  34. I used to think TC was good but posters on here recently have made the case that he is, indeed, ****. That's unfortunate.... While this does feel like an obvious upgrade from Hogan, it also feels like the CFL Recycling Program in high gear...

  35. Most recently he was Hamiltons OC from 2019-23. They had good teams those years we just beat them in the GC. Currently Ottawas OC. They had a pretty bad year but was it players or coaching. Could do worse than Tommy. Willing to give him a year 😊

  37. Cap wise, I agree that this is the best position we’ve gone into the off season in in a long time. And you have the ability to fix your cap year to year. If you have the will to do it. We have a few awful deals, but the cap growth and off season turn over makes it workable. Wj, is one of the worst contracts in the league. Dl is one of our biggest positions of need. Idk if we will actually spend at dl though. Zachs lack of consistency and quality concerns me more than his pay. Yes 600k is a yikes. But it’s not like we have a comparable guy available for 400-500k. The only way up for us at qb, is going young. And that is a very risky and lengthy process. These guys we will see what they got. I have to imagine with the timing and cap space left that we have them front loaded deals that won’t hit the cap hard next year. Especially with the importance brady put on guaranteed money. With the current market demski probably goes from too expensive but very effective to a good deal. Even with a raise. We’ve had opportunities and money to spend. We just haven’t done much to invest in league free agent. That’s the big moment I think we are all waiting for. To really see if we’ve changed. Moving on from some one old is inevitable one way or another.
