Bombers-Als Pre Game Discussion
BaconNBigBlue and 3 others reacted to rebusrankin for a topic
So the game is meaningless from our end as we can't pass Calgary and BC. Its the ESF for us. To me, they should sit Zach to keep him healthy. I'd also like to see Shay and Smith gets reps at linebacker. Call me crazy, but it would be nice to see our two high draft picks get actual reps on D.4 points -

The Lions need to set their roster before the Stamps game. Sure they can make changes but the players they add to the roster need to come from the practice roster. Also if Calgary lose, BC still aren't guaranteed 2nd. If the Bombers win then there would be a 3 way tie and the Lions would be 3rd in the West The Lions play by play guy outlines the scenarios nicely:4 points -
It's both play calling & execution that they aren't happy with (at least for ZC - BO has to be pissed with the calls being made). The Free Press had a good piece on the game and when it came to the play calling, it's not a good look for Hogan. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2025/10/18/didnt-like-it-but-bombers-will-take-it4 points

I was wondering what Mace said to O'Shea at the end of the game - "what more did you want us to do to let you win this game? Have our guys run the ball into our own endzone and let your guys fall on it?" What an embarrassment, that these guys could barely beat the Riders "C" team.3 points -

Calgary also needs to win for the Bombers to get 3rd in the West. Otherwise it's a 3 way tie and the Bombers get the crossover over. Also BC isn't going to lose as all they have to do is beat the Riders and they get 2nd place.2 points -
I'm torn on this. If they do go with scrubs again, it means most of their starters have sat for close to a month - do they want to roll into the playoffs cold? I expect them to play the A team (at least part of the game). BC may wait to see what Calgary does as well before determining their final roster as well. If Calgary loses to Edmonton, that gives the Lions 2nd place making their game against Sask meaningless.2 points

VAJ is getting his excuses ready... Took a hit while still in the game up 38-7 or some **** and was immediately limping and grabbing at his hip. Toronto might have looked worse in this game than any team I've seen all season, including us and Ottawa. Still calling Leos and Als...2 points

Honestly, that may have been an uglier win than completing 3 passes in Ottawa. Playing like that in a home game, fighting for a playoff spot against Saskatchewan’s jobbers was inexcusable. If they have to go to Montreal for the playoffs it’s going to look like the 1996 west semi final that cost Cal Murphy job,2 points -
Y'know, I just typed out a whole thing about how I listened to the CJOB post game and at no point did Zach or Brady say anything bad about coaching.... ....and then I stopped and thought about it. And y'know what...? Maybe they did actually. In the moment it sounded to me like they were taking personal responsibility for the offense being ****.... But actually what they were saying was "the offense was terrible. The D and ST were great and we have to be better on offense" Now, Zach did call himself out personally... Said that he needed to be better and that he thought his own play was bad. But... Now that I think about it, it is possible they were throwing the offense, as a whole, under the bus....2 points

Meh... Maybe their defense. Maybe. Listen, our O was garbage again tonight. We looked pretty good against Edmonton at home in like Week 3..... And against Hamilton a couple weeks ago. Other than that? Ass ugly offense. But I have no clue whose fault it is. I don't think a single person on this 'board knows whose fault. Is it the OL? Not enough talent in the WR corps? Hogan play calls? Zach? Not one person here knows for sure. Whatever it is, it needs to get fixed.2 points

There was definitely something about us losing out in a 4 way tie. Not sure about the 3 way tie. But that seems likely as well1 point

The one thing people miss is that they don't take the winner of the tiebreak scenario, they dump the loser. So because Winnipeg has the worst round-robin W% of the group they get dropped, and then the tiebreaker resolves between CGY-BC1 point

Winnipeg has a 2-3 record against BC and Calgary. Lions are 2-2, so they have a higher winning percentage and would get 3rd in the West. Even if their record was the same in the games with the other tied clubs, the Lions also would have the next tie breaker which is points for and against in their games with Winnipeg and Calgary. Lions are plus 16 and Bombers are minus 16.1 point -

Yup, I'm completely with you on this. If the motto is make sure certain starters are not hurt before the playoffs, play him. It's the perfect time to see what he's got, not only for the playoffs in case he's forced into play, but for the future. Like a mini try-out. But I also read from some around here that they believe he doesn't have the necessary tools to play as a starter in this league. Let's say that's true and the BB's also think that way then to me that's even more frustrating and suggests that someone in the coaching/management/scouting department needs to step up their game.1 point -

Zach was diplomatic but clearly unhappy with both the team's execution and the play calling on the post game. Brady on OB didn't come out and say Hogan's playcalling is awful and they should can him but he was clearly not happy. Yes, this is inferring on my part. Hamilton clearly hears things we don't. Those expecting to actually hear any player on this team flat out say the OC is terrible, the scheme is terrible and that the players are unhappy are going to be waiting till Hell freezes over. However clearly all is not right at PAS.1 point -

I think the third quarter stats are the most damning evidence against Hogan. Lack of talent and execution is one thing, but getting consistently out adjusted out of the locker room to that degree is all on the coaching staff.1 point -

Bigger picture it might of done this organization some benefit long term if Edmonton had indeed snuck by us and eliminated us from post season play. This would have dictated/forced what our off season would need to look like in how we need to make some changes to the genetic makeup of this club at all levels. Now making the playoffs might be a false positive that fakes us into continued complacency with minimal changes. But if we win it all this year, I take everything back. 🙂1 point -
Better idea... start Zach let him get hurt and out for the season. Play Strelever until 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter and give Wilson one series where he hands the ball off twice. In the first half of the play off game Strev will get hurt by pointlessly bull rushing the D. Wilson then comes in completely cold with no real reps and looks rusty and we end up losing the game. O'Shea then when asked what they could have done differently. He will then answer by doing this face:1 point

That’s the most puzzling thing, they’ve gone to predominantly quick release stuff in 2 games this year (@ Mtl, vs Ham) and had success with it. In the Hamilton game it opened up some deeper stuff to Pokey and even Mitchell that worked. They don’t have the OL, WRs or arguably the QB to run the watered down version of Bucks offence they’ve been using most of this year.1 point -

I don't believe for a second that they couldn't implement more quick release concepts on offense. It starts up front - they do not have the OL to run the O they seem to be stuck on.1 point -

Fair. Some drops today hurt drives. Roll Zack out a little bit. Give him an extra second or two to find someone. Commit to the run. He had like 30 yards passing in the 2nd half. Just a lot of puzzling decisions. I'm sure Zach isn't making Hogan's job easy But this is ugly. Mike Kelly ugly 2.0. The dude with the stupid tie celebration ugly1 point

Seldomly do I agree with firing a coach after 1 season. Hogan is one of the few. He's been that bad. He'll, I'd say let Jackson take over play calling right now1 point

Who actually eats anything from Tim Horton's anymore? If that company went under would anyone care?1 point -
I don't understand how they still stay in business these days? The location near my house has depleted the donut/muffin/bagel selection down to the absolute bare minimum. Apparently double chocolate donuts are to niche these days for them to stock? The last time I went they said they stopped serving wedges and other food items after 5 pm. Now no soups and chili? What is on the menu these days outside of plain donuts, plain bagel, a few sandwiches and flat bread pizza which completely doesn't make sense? What a massive fall of grace from only 20 years ago.1 point

Full no move clause and bonuses in the contract. It’s a huge win. Dude wanted to be here. Didn’t want to be anywhere else. Put it in his contract even. People should be celebrating this. Biggest signing in Winnipeg sports history and the guy signing it genuinely wants to be here and he’s an American.1 point
