And like I said, if Eli isn't better... then time to move on and find someone else because kolankowski for my money is the teams weakest starter and needs to be replaced 2 years ago. If that has to be by an American so be it, but let's stop wasting time on a guy like that.

  2. How bout these stats, his 3 best years rushing the passer, he put up a total of 53 sacks. Tony norman is 2nd all time with a bomber career total of 59 sacks. So 3 years of jones would still be the 2nd best pass rusher in team history. WJ, working in his 6th season as a Bomber, has 44. Jeffcoats 6 6-year career totaled 38. Brown got 52, swac and walls both had 47. Jones put up a total of 15 picks in his career. He put up a receiving TD, a pick 6, and a fumble recovery for a TD. And talk about a guy who stayed on the field, a real throwback player even in that era.

  7. He was an absolute terror in the '84 Grey Cup with four sacks. I bet Dieter Brock still has nightmares about #35 coming at him.

  8. HC takes input...but he has last say and essentially sets lineup and roster...and essentially declares who he wants to see with player use and reps As @SpeedFlex27 said...basically signs off on the game day roster. He dictates who he wants out there based on gameplan they came up with. Good HC allows for most part his coordinators to come up with it and may offer input, but they give them essentially full creative control of it (and we do that here) but they control who is used to deploy it... All in game decisions...strategic...player performance (pulling a guy...injury replacement etc) is head coach...he is in total control of game day...and it's also up to him to get in ears of coordinators to make changes and adjustments when things are going off rails...in the end...he wears it This isn't assumption or opinion...its from being in the room...being in team mtgs as both a player and a coach...seeing it first hand...and it's basically like that everywhere

  9. I have been watching O'Shea. Last season and the two previous seasons he kept fielding sub-par players (like Kolankowski when Tui Eli was available and has LOST three consecutive Grey Cup games when they were emiinently winnable. Winning big in the regular season is all well and good, but it counts for squat in the post-season.

  10. I want to add that our echo chamber position is also indicative of the nature of the league. Us talent levels are fairly static. The gap between top US talent in the CFL and replacement level isn't huge. Teams win based on Canadian talent and depth in the modern CFL. The gap between top Canadian talent and end of the end-of-the-roster guys is gigantic. The difference between the teams with the best Canadian talent and the worst is the same as the difference between the top and bottom teams. Teams always try to buy a contender in free agency based on IMP stars. And that process is slow, plus it’s hit or miss, depending on your ability to draft and develop Canadians. We signed Imps and developed NIs under the mafia. We still have among the very best ni position player/players in the league. We also have good depth, and lots of developing young guys. So we have a good team and a future. As long as we keep moving those guys up. Our primary limiting factor is also our worst starting Canadians. I don't think the ringmaiden/penn thing was (if I am right, that is) some active decision to weed them out. I'm not sure we have purposely created an echo chamber. It happens we've built around Canadians, who have made their bones with Canadian talent. But I think we have created a strong echo chamber. McManis is pretty hands off. He's mostly in the US and out of the room, searching for talent. Jim Jauch is about the most Canadian, Anerican-born football front office guy in the league. He's a reverse Cahoon. Brock Sunderland might be the only guy who has a chance to be real outside eyes with a diverse view. When we barely played them on D in pre-season, I knew we were cooked. We'd better do more with them next year in camp and preseason. We have done this before a lot, drafted on potential, then left guys to rot in situational play. First down, Will and Mac in general are the second easiest and fastest positions for rookies and Canadians to adapt to the cfl at. (Rb easiest, Db a close second for rookie imps) We would be dramatically better off starting 1 of them at 1 lber spot and rotating them, than going with Thomas/Kornelson at DL, Hallett at S, etc. What we might lose at that position, vs what we lose at DT, Guard etc is gigantic. The near future of our team needs to heavily include guys like clercius, Wallace, Lawson, Shay, smith, and the current crop of ni youth. We aren’t likely to see a draft class like the last two years repeatedly. We’ve already lost guys like ford, Dobson etc. Wasting time not using guys like that and letting them develop only makes our future worse. All of the above guys are able to contribute regularly on o/d as well as teams.

Then if he truly isn't better than kolankowski cut him because he's not worth keeping. Kolankowski is a scrap heap emergency injury fill in type of player. If your backup isn't better than that why are we keeping him?

  14. What has Eli done to show he’s better than Kolo? He had some bad snaps in preseason that probably sealed his fate as a backup.

when u said he gonna be depth and depth only and thats fine...I said you are a fool to believe that knowing Osh was the HC....Here's one time I wish I was wrong but I knew I wouldnt be I was shocked Korny made team...let alone active roster And with Adams it's not necessarily stats that show the true story...he consumes usually 2 guys...causes pressure and makes the QB have to move/change launch point or get flushed into someone else....but if we had complimentary peices with him...and Lawson...that would change in a big way and when we have both nim and Lawson on feild together in a 4 man....even one or both in 3 man...we have more sucess and pressure than with the other 2

  17. Yep. Our wins have been heavily skewed by the fact that we had a ridiculous talent edge over the rest of the league. Look at how our DL dominated; we ran every alignment imaginable, with every single combination of players. Everything we did after we started, Zach worked. With every sub and roster change. That team is among the most overpowered in league history. The fact that much of the core is still competitive speaks volumes to that. Mos has done a lot of great things here; we could've won with almost any HC. Not any coach could've turned us into that squad, not any coach could've come back from last year's start. But a bunch of coaches would have more GC rings in his place here. Your claim is that absurd. We see outstanding rookies at every single position in the CFL now. Even QBs here n there. For real though, who did Kornelson out play and how? The backup QB is the most popular guy amongst the fans. The thing is, we have several below-replacement-level guys like Kola and Jake. Would you like to go do a head-to-head comparison of forced into action PR back-ups vs those guys in film? Can show real clearly that some guys we play are average PR or below guys. Funny thing is the same thing happened last year in PS too. On top of that, our brutal useage of biggie, feeding him to OL to prevent double teams, caused his precipitous downfall and injuries. We battered the poor guy into a career grave. We were not first in pressures last year, which aren't openly tracked or released on a reliable in-season basis. Classic distraction technique. Teams often track it themselves and quantify it. He tried to say at one point last year that Jake had the most pressure in the league. The gap is actually widening in terms of pressures as well, between us and the rest of the league. Teams like Sask, To, and a couple of others are running much more aggressive fronts, doing basically the opposite of what we did last year. The riders have had an absurd amount of pressure on opposing qbs this year. More real pressures than we had all last year. Very few.

  18. Its troubling to me that neither Shay or Smith has seen a rep on D yet. Also troubling we're using a DI spot on Ayers for what amounts to 3 snaps a game. Finally 26 reps for a guy who would have to improve to be a JAG in Kornelson is frustrating.

  19. Or 1. I think the whole league has 2 guys who, when they are on, are at that kind of level. Beverette and McManis. And both are tweeny wil/sam types.
    2 points
  20. Yeah, I think generally is all we can say. But I also think that the general opinion is very close. Mos and the long-term ASTs have talked a bit about the prep process, and I don't think there are any great tricks in how we do things. If anything, it's probably far closer to how we perceive the operations to be than most would believe. We are the antithesis of tricky in terms of operation, strategy, and decision-making. The mafia is like Bart Simpson playing rock, paper, scissors, throwing rock every single time. I fully believe that Mos and his COs feel like they have a highly collaborative game planning, where they have the freedom to put on the field what they want. But I think the echo chamber has left us in a position where only people who make like-minded decisions are in that room to collaborate. They are all too busy expounding on the intangible virtues and longevity of guys like Kola and Thomas to want to take them off. I don't think the type of person who would say, "that former star is over the hill and needs to go," gets or holds a job in our franchise. And I would bet my house that Cyril Penn and Ryan Ringmaiden were both that guy. Both guys could've moved up the chain more here. Both spent relatively short stints here, but both brought in some incredible US talent.

If he got to play as the guy...the snaps would be just fine...and when has he got the chance to start and finish a game to see if there is any difference...he hasn't...and it's not like he hadn't earned it in practice like some people here claim as to why guys are stuck in the back seat...there no way to prove or earn anything in the practice format in todays practice...none...it needs to be shown in live reps...

We need to do a better job of coaching and player management insitu...aka during the game...That's where we been getting owned alot...we put together a game plan and roster...and much like how we break camp it is what it is and will just bang our heads against the wall trying to make it work..and putting guys in who aren't getting it done...and make minimal if any adjustments...its like they don't want to admit fault or failure by any tweeks and adjustments

The roster we had on the field was capable of winning. Maybe if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle is not a coherent argument to make. I will agree that Collaros not being taken out MIGHT have been a mistake, but one that can not be definitively proven. Maybe we put in Dolegala or Wilson for the remainder and they throw 3 INTs and we lose by a larger margin. We will never know. I do agree that depth has been depleted somewhat, and that in part is what the crux of my argument is. We have people sitting here saying that our depth is depleted but we should play our depth anyway because they are better than who the coaches have identified as starters. Pick a lane, the argument can't work both ways.
    2 points
  26. And if we dressed some healthier receivers in 2023 maybe they make those handful of plays... maybe if an injured collaros is taken out of the game last year they makes some plays to win... Roster decisions have 100% impacted the teams ability to make the plays necessary to win the tight games. That's the whole point! When it's that close you can't afford to handicap yourself. Again they got away with a lot more in the past because they had a very strong and very deep roster, but the depth has been eroded and and starters are aging and becoming less consistent. Time is coming quickly when the roster management problems become more and more of an issue.

  28. The yeah but crowd think reg season is a success even when losing the championship game with easily prevented circumstances...over and over...same reason.. Adams with 55 percent...Lawson 60...crazy...and there been reps with both Thomas and Korn...yikes Shay and Smith if any reps taken been at end of a game...meaningless plays really...token throw em a bone reps...not significant reps to assess ability and facilitate growth

  30. Just caught up on snap counts for the season...folks had asked in a different thread. 211 defensive snaps (including penalty plays were the play wasn't stopped early): Vaughters - 189 Jefferson - 182 Thomas - 144 Lawson - 129 Adams - 117 Kornelson - 26

  31. And jeffcoat missed a lot of time to injury so moving on wasn't necessarily wrong... but they definitely didn't put in a lot of effort trying to replace the DEs. Nor DTs. Trotting out Jake as if he's Doug brown ain't cutting anything. Jake was a depth guy at his peak and he's well past that now.

Correct but it's Access Credit Union after they merged a few years ago. Red Lobster & Olive Garden were part of the same strip mall but separate buildings (RL was at 803 Leila & OG was 787 Leila). You think incorrectly. The Olive Garden building is now a Salisbury House. It was also a Brannigans at one point too.

I don't think anyone needs to be in the room for this question. It was in regards to football in general, not specifically the Bombers. People like Booch who have played/coached at fairly high levels are more than qualified to answer a question like that.

  36. Fair statement but i’m guessing most us are sometimes ‘guilty’ of bias at work, at home and in public, i.e., at times not being in the ‘room’ when decisions are talked about and made to confirm/know what’s going on so we use other approaches to better understand, some good some not so good.

Were they? The offense was beyond useless the last 3 Grey cups in a row. Is that because they just didn't play well or was that because it was a poor roster make up for the opponents? 2023 especially we dressed 3 receivers who could barely move... how is that putting a capable team on the field? Don't let the score fool you. That it was close is a minor miracle considering how useless the offense was. Hurt collaros in 2022 and 2024 isn't putting a roster capable of winning out there either. Most games come down to a handful of plays.... give yourself the best chance to make those plays. That includes depth for every position, not relying on injured players etc etc.

Citation needed... cause Eli hasn't gotten many reps at centre. And forget snaps, he hasn't looked anywhere as useless blocking as kolankowski has. I'll live with the occasional iffy snap vs. No pocket for a qb.

they are not in some areas...Osh is putting out guys based on his heart and opinion...not talent sad....and fact Korn has 26 snaps most likely parking one of lawson...Adams even sadder pathetic if you watched any pre-season game action you could have seen it People I talked to re: camp said they were the better....and the few practices I been to since, where they run thru just basic technical stuff...running....movements you can see it.....it's plain as day they also run fronts with athletic and versatile guys...which help....we have currently 4 guys able to do that (WJ..Vaught..Adams...Lawson) but they need help and with Korn..Thomas and a converted LB at rotational end...we dont have the proper players....ends are dogged out and have to take plays off whether they want to or not... Guys like Person...Bailey....can and have played teams...Fox and Woods last yr did as well....you dont need a redundant amount of slugs who cant take reps on offence or defence as your major part of roster config.....You can have rotaional guys that can take reps with little to now drop off play teams tho....and rotate in....here's where we are slitting our own throats....we draft a lot with the sole purpose/idea of ST's....thats bad practice...and dumb.....Anyone can play teams at the pro level....especially if athletic....not everyone can play offence or defense and not hurt you tho...this is where we failing in a huge way now that our staring 24 and 3 key subs are not stacked anymore...or 3-5 yrs younger Demski too could barely run and should not have been out there that game cause....he been here 3 yrs now.....most likely.... we dont turn our de's loose anymore....and when you have no push in the middle with half your dline interior.....then no reason for the qb to try and escape and get swallowed up off the edge...he either steps up and finds a second or 3rd read....or just hits the primary guy on a quick toss unabated.....when we were kicking butt and looking like a all-time defensive unit...we Had our 2 end letting loose with 2 other ends spelling them off...and guys like Nevis...stove...Sayles casuing issues inside with a sprinkling of Jake....and even in his "prime" he lacked a lot Now we have 2 ends who get no rotation....Jake getting majority of inside reps and sporadic use of the 2 legit DT's....and people wonder why we get zero pressure....no sacks...and at times QB's seem to just sit back and pick apart 8-9 guys in coverage 100 percent

  44. Agree. Korny too. Just doesn’t make sense. That’s true, but it’s also hard to project stats at DT. It’s not a high volume tackle spot in high reps. 2 tackles a game at dt in high volume is really good. 2-3 is extraordinary. The volume of our pressures and sacks thatve come with him in the field is crazy. Especially when with Lawson.

  45. Our receivers are great if they are wide-open. Schoen looks quite limited. Only guys that really fight through contact are Clercius and Demski. Easy to defend us. Kill the vertical stuff, force our receivers to make plays underneath and beat zone. We can't.

  47. I'm going to build on @JuranBoldenRules points. Name a successful CFL or NFL team that didn't generate a lot of pressure and by extension sacks? We did in 19 and 21, Toronto did it in 22 and 24. Eagles just won a Super Bowl in part because of this.

  48. Brandon Alexander & Collaros was hurt as well. However, I get starting Collaros even with a bum ankle. Posters here going after the members they think complain too much & then they throw up shade making excuse after excuse actually keeping the merry go round going. The coaching decisions cost us those Grey Cups. The 2023 Grey Cup with all the injured players, especially with Biggie playing on one leg, Schoen barely able to run & was a non factor...etc, etc. Last year playing Collaros with a severed finger on his throwing hand. That's all coaching decisions.
