Christo Bilukdi And Andy Mulumba watch

Recommended Posts

There's one more thing I want to add to this discussion. Do you think the Argos are upset they had to wait 4 years or however many it was to get Cory Greenwood? sure he's pushing 30 now but they have an impact Canadian starter. Corey Mace may be the most injury prone player in the CFL but he was a difference maker when he played. We were impatient and missed out on his potential. Fringe players and even rotational players in the NFL don't last particularly long. As of right now we have a guy in Mulumba who in terms of skill is a Westerman who we don't need to outbid other teams for when he becomes available.

Greenwood was basically a luxury pick because they already took Eppelle

A team that could just get crazy deep from NFL castoffs is Calgary...

Montreal's starting offensive guards right now were drafted in 2010 and 2011 respectively and didn't end up starting for Montreal until this year.

Take the best player and if you have to wait then you have to wait. The CFL draft is about long term success and I cringe every time the Bombers approach the draft saying "We need impact players right now."

At this point i dont expect to ever see either of these guys or muamba in blue.(again) Hard as it is, since any or all of these guys would be game breaking/franchise changing, i hope them the best. Id love to see them in pro bowl games making headlines. It makes the canadian pipe line soo much better and brings much better talent to the league. Just look at how drastic the NI pool has improved in the last 10 years.

Except they haven't...

Pencer wasn't expected to step in right away, neither was Etienne or Goossen or Labatte... but you need them to show up at some point

Trouble is that since 2008 different bomber regimes give up on the draft picks of the last guy

It's hard to tell what the Bombers' strategy has been in past drafts because whatever it was, it hasn't worked.  But they have mentioned before multiple drafts, needing players that can step in right away.  Etienne was expected to contribute in the first year, as ridiculous as that seems.  That's why they kept him on the roster all year.  They could have had Tyler Holmes but were afraid they'd have to wait.  What a blunder!

The trouble is that our draft this year was eerily similar to a Mack draft...  a bit more conservative but some real similarities in consistently going off the board - passing on Waud, Durant

Still seems like we pick guys for our current coaching staff and not BPA... At least we couldn't miss with an OL pick this season

I'm a fan of picks like Coombs or Edem but those guys were BPA at their position - Richards and Morgan were not

Waud has been okay but not great, and the knock on Durant was "personal conduct issues" and he hasn't been tearing up the league, either. Ya puts yer money on the table and takes yer chances, and often it is just that -a game of luck with a bit of skill thrown in.

Calgary doesn't seem to let 'personal conduct' get in the way of talent at the draft...  D'Aguilar, Smith, Durant - these are top talents that fell to Calgary because of 'issues'...  Huff is confident enough in his culture to draft these guys

They have a pretty clear strategy - if there's a standout talent, trade up to go after him, other take BPA and gamble on BPA/NFL type in the third round or third pick

I can't explain Ameet Pall of course, ha.

Mack, I think, tried this strategy but just couldn't quite succeed

D'Aguilar is nothing special. Not sure who smith is and Durant has done nothing so far. Should probably use better examples cuz really those are 3 special teams guys right now and that's about it.

Quinn Smith - he started for Calgary this week... usually he's stuck on the depth chart behind Mace

They're nothing special because those are Calgary's second picks in the draft... of course, they're mostly ST - just like Briggs, Robertson, Richards

Their first picks for the last three years are Craighead, Lavertu, Lavoie - all those guys would be starting for the bombers right now

Calgary's 3rd picks are Jones, Caron (Tardif at 4th), Varga (Campbell 4th)

Craighead and Lavoie are big time injury concerns and Lavertu went first overall so I can't hold that one against the Bombers.

  • 1 month later...

VANCOUVER – The front seven has been the best part of another bad Bombers football team in 2015, but a name has become free south of the border that could make the defensive line even better.

The Baltimore Ravens on Saturday released Canadian defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi, who is Bombers property because then general manager Joe Mack drafted him in the third round, 21st overall, of the 2012 draft.

Bilukidi, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound Ottawa native, was a sixth round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2012. He played 18 games as a backup for the Raiders before getting released two months into the season. He joined the Cincinnati Bengals and played two games.

The Bengals released Bilukidi just before their first game of last season, but the Ravens inked him to a contract using the roster space vacated by Ray Rice. He appeared in four games for Baltimore last fall.

All told, Bilukidi has appeared in 24 NFL games and has notched 16 tackles, a sack and a defended pass attempt.

Bilukidi will have to clear NFL waivers on Sunday before becoming a free agent. Bilukidi's agent, Darren Gill, said they will wait to see what happens over the weekend before deciding how to proceed.

@Ravens: We have promoted WR Jeremy Ross to the 53-man roster and waived DT Christo Bilukidi.

Dare we hope? I volunteer to drive down, pick him up and ferry him back to the "Peg.

I'll pitch in for your gas.
