WFP Article targeting O'Shea

Maybe has O'Shea made some changes or adjustments we'd have won. I don't care what he says in the paper as long as he makes adjustments and or at least acknowledges problems. Our run defence is being torched right now and he refuses to admit there's even a concern.

Which part of our run defence distresses you the most?

The fact that they gave up 196 yards ? or that it led to one TD being scored on the defence?

The reason teams run the ball is to kill the clock, SASK won all 3 games vs us mainly because we couldn't stop the run regardless of what O'Shea says...

Yes other factors contributed ( blocked FG for a TD ) but running kills the clock and gives the other team less time to score points.

No, you're wrong.

We did not lose all three games because we couldn't stop the run.

Did you not watch any of the games and are simply going on the message that the run defence is not good?

I saw lots of yards being gained on us in three games, that much is true.

I also saw 5 turnovers in one game to none for Sask. Do you not think that had a bigger bearing on that loss?

How about today's game? we did stop the run in the 4th quarter - twice, but we failed to execute to win the game.

If we had scored, do you honestly think Sask. runs the ball?

If Sask. does not get the benefit of ST mistakes (16 points) and is actually down in the game, do they stick to running the ball and killing the clock when it netted them 14 points total?

I don't think most people are saying we lost because of our Run D.  I think they're saying it had a factor in our losing.  Chewing up the clock means our offense was not on the field possibly scoring a TD.  There are obviously multiple factors in why we lost, most specifically our ST.  But, them burning up the clock with the run was a contributing factor.

Strikes me like Wiecek was hoping to get a "sky is falling" narrative to write his article, Osh didn't bite and so Wiecek decided to tell him how he should feel, because as a sports reporter he's qualified to tell professionals what emotions they have.

By "qualified" sports reporter, you mean curling and horse racing beat man, right?

I don't think most people are saying we lost because of our Run D.

There are in fact people saying exactly that. If it was 200 rushing yards given up combined with 200 or 300 passing yards they might have a point but the fact that the total offense given up was like 300 yards and the riders managed only a touchdown means that defensively the Bombers managed fine. Yeah they gave up some run yards but it didn't cost them the game. There were tons of chances to score more points and they missed them, How about taking a 15 yard penalty to back them out of field goal range? Get a field goal there and suddenly a field goal at the end of the game ties it rather than taking a shot for the endzone. The blocked field goal, that was a mistake by the blocking plain and simple and without that the game could easily be a win. They made too many mistakes in this game on special teams and that was the difference. I'd say that the Bombers won the other two phases of the game, but they got beat so bad on special teams it cost them the game.

The Bombers made mistakes and the Riders took advantage of them.

The missed block on the FG, could have meant nothing, a blocked FG with no return or a 60 yard TD.

The missed hold wouldn't have meant anything if the special teams had stayed in their lanes and stopped Dressler earlier on.

The bad snap cost us 2 points because Liram kicked it out of the endzone.  It could have cost us a TD.

The poor call, execution and throw at the end of the game ended up costing us a chance at a win.  That play could have been a catch, a knockdown, or an INT.  It was the Riders DB who made the play on the ball and turned a knockdown into an INT.

What I'm trying to say is... We didn't give them the game.  They made enough big plays to take the game, just like the other 2 times we played them.

I didn't say no one...I said most people.  Yes, there are a few people saying it's completely the fault of the run D (which isn't true), but if you read people's comments, they're saying it's a factor, not the whole reason.

I thought you said they only needed one TD on offence to win the game.

You had fans and the OP is included in this group on the chat during the game going on and on and on and on about just the most ridiculous stuff, ruining it for everyone else in there trying to actually talk football while the game was going on. Every little play was HOLY OVER REACTION, seriously, it became nauseating at times...

I've gotta figure out how to use AdBlocker to block people in the game day chat.

or.. the mods could just give a temporary ban to those handful of people maybe for 24 hours, the day of the game so they can't ruin it for the rest of us. I don't come on to chat often for that very reason. It's the usual suspects over and over again so not sure why it wouldn't be warranted. I understand the site seems to be against banning people but.. temporary bans just so the folks who actually want to talk football during the game on chat can actually talk football on there without the usual suspects throwing in their pointless 2 cents every 10 seconds. If any mod wants to know which guys it were, you probably got about 15 of us who can tell you who those i'm gonna say 2 were. The op was one, the other.. think everyone knows who that was.

I loved at the end of O'Shea's press conference Lawless tries (several times) to point out how the rush yds against wore down our D and that it probably led to the Riders having an advantage in TOP. Well, Sir Garry, if you bothered to look at the gamestats prior to waddling to the conference, you'd know we had the ball slightly longer. Not too mention 9 more first downs, 150+ more yds of offence.... not that those things matter, right?

When I talk about blocking people on chat, it's not because I think they warrant bans from the site.

It's because every time there's a setback in the game, no matter how minor, some people wail like mourners at a mob funeral and that drowns out the cool people I want to discuss the game with. Just a personal preference thing.

I agree with this, I'm just saying on the chat it's the same people every time so a temp ban on game day would work to eliminate them lol.

A bit of column A and a bit of column B.  It's too simple to say they didn't win the game, we lost the game.  Sometimes we make a dumb mistake and give the ball away.  Sometimes they have great pressure and create a turnover.

A less than ideal snap gets turned into a low driving punt.  Which one is that?  Could be considered either, both.  If the snap is perfect, odds are the punt has more hang time and our coverage has a chance to get down the field in their lanes.  But that still doesn't mean there wasn't a fast returner who took advantage of a series of blocks and an uncalled hold to turn the corner and outrun the Bombers for a TD.

If we eliminate our mistakes it might have been a win.  They can also say if they eliminate their mistakes the game would not have been as close.  Both teams can use their imagination to change what might have happened, but it doesn't change what happened.

The general consensus around here is that we gave the game away.  That's a pretty one sided view of what happened.   No team plays error free football.  If we were playing a lesser team, most  of our mistakes wouldn't have been as much of a problem.   For example, most missed blocks don't result in TD's for the other team.  Regina takes full advantage of other teams mistakes because they are a pretty darn good team.

We need to reduce the number of mistakes and the number of stupid penalties if we want to be able to beat the top half of the league teams.  We also need to upgrade some personal. There have been a few guys available who could have really helped us out and we chose not to go after them, so I don't see that happening this year.  We aren't going to change out our OC or DC because 6-5 doesn't warrant changing them.  As we are mostly playing the top half of the league, I expect we will lose more than we win from here on out.

As for O'Shea, the honeymoon period appears to be over.  Consistently saying: 'It's not a problem' and then seeing that it is a problem in games isn't going to help.  Sticking with his guys when others are available is great when we're winning.  It doesn't go over very well when we aren't.  There are IOSWT (In O'Shea We Trust) folks around here who only want to hear the positive about the job our HC is doing and will argue with everyone who disagrees with any aspect of it.

Personally, I think emotional and physical fatigue is a factor of late. O'Shea would never use it as an excuse but I really think not having had a bye week yet has something to do with it even if it is just not having time off to let their bodies rest and heal.

Not using it as an excuse but i agree, that bye week can't come quick enough. Just to let our guys heal up, most are probably battling through little nagging injuries. A week off completely would help them, also probably refresh them too.

It's only going to get worse if Osh continues to pretend to the press that it doesn't matter. 'Not an issue, handled internally' didn't go over well last time.

I would agree fully...

...Except for the fact that, that's not in the least what he is doing.

...Except that the media is painting it that way.

You don't have to divide everyone into factions. Besides, it'd be pure ignorance to don't act like you have your own posting tendencies as well. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't appreciate it if I started calling you the "OBTFITFHAOHJSTHHP" guy all the time, even though I'm sure most people here would say it'd be much deserved.

I think the smart fans and Winnipeg i think has quite a lot of knowledgeable sports fans can see passed the media's agenda and i think sometimes, even get sick of the media's agenda here. I think there is a reason why less and less people are buying newspapers, i think there is a reason why they give the Winnipeg Sun away for free in most areas of the city... It's that people are catching on to the media, instead of reporting news like they should be doing, they are making it up and most people see this.  The media is trying to tell people what to think instead of letting people think for themselves. I don't know about anyone else but.. Not a big fan of people trying to tell me what to think. I have a brain, i have eyes, when it comes to football i can watch and listen and form my own opinion and  i don't need the media to tell me what they think either. Most the media are "opinion writers", sure some fall under the category of sports writer but reality is, They are all just opinion writers. There is no difference between paul wicek and joey joe joe shabbadoo posting on this very forum, only difference, one guy gets paid to write his opinion, the other guy is posting it for "fun" really. I'll be honest, I learn more from posting on this forum than i ever have from reading a newspaper article thats for sure.

The best paper in Winnipeg right now, It's the Metro. It cuts out all of the  bs opinion pieces and just focuses on the "news" really. And if anyone tries to tell me otherwise, just wait until election time when the papers tell you who to vote for.

I don't think so. I think it's probably closer to 10 percent. I don't think you are giving people enough credit actually. I think most people can see through the BS that the media is putting out there. I think it's become quite apparent the last couple years to most people that the media don't know as much as they like to pretend they do. Most people don't like to be told what to think or how to think it or who to cheer for and who not to cheer for, Sure, theres a percentage of people who will believe the media until the cows come home but i think that percentage of people would also believe the media if they told them the sky was green and the grass is blue.

You are always going to have people who believe the media, but you also have people who thought that MH370 plane was on the moon or abducted by aliens, Those people are few and far between i think.

You gotta stop writing in that really small font.  I'm too old to read it without getting my glasses.   :D  (Grabs his glasses and reads the small print)  Meh... You've called me worse.

I'm not dividing folks into factions, I'm just pointing out that there are factions.  If you don't want to be called an IOSWT guy, then don't be one.
