2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

All the What Ifs in that article...

What If they had a decent oline that could protect Collaros so he didnt have to scramble or try running and get hit again.

Disregard the open plays Nichols missed for whatever reason.

What if Streveler hits Harris in the WF last year?

Riders sign Bennett.

Somewhere Kevin Glenn is scowling.

Why?  You think he wants to unretire to get killed?

They called Glenn first.

He will all of a sudden be hailed as the greatest QB to don green and white. Better than Durant and Lancaster.

We probably win the grey cup

Glad for Bennett but feel sorry for him doing to that mess..and be hard to root against him but dont want him to succeed..hence riders succeed...wonder if this means Collaros out a while???

I would be shocked if Collaros plays again. It would insanely dumb on his part at this point.

Yeah at this point, I never want to see Collaros on the field again. You're only harming your future self.

Contract talks fell apart when he demanded an offensive line

I thought it was when he demanded a $70,000 signing bonus.

"Stop blaming the victim."

It sounded like he is not coming back at all.  Crappy situation.

I'd rather the Riders have no excuses (i.e. losing starting qb) as the reason for them having a terrible record this season.   At this point they really have no good options, who could they air lift or trade?   Maybe Ottawa parts with Jennings or Toronto with Franklin/Thompson ?

Much as I want the Riders to sink like stones in a well, if Collaros cannot come back, this is just horrible.

Why would these two teams help a potential crossover

Fact of the matter..it was gonna happen if not in that game anyway even without the hit..or the next..guy is broken and cant take the hits anymore.

And that was just a glancing blow from a shoulder..imagine if he got caught with a shot like Wilson took last night..he'd have been stretchered off the field.

At least no other teams tweeted out "how's your QB situation looking now?" Like some team did last yr when a QB went down..who was that again??

Hate to see guys careers end..but his was inevitable and probably better now then taking a severe shot

That being said..nice to see that team wallow around now a sputter and die a long painfull season..couldn't happen to a better self entitled fan base..let's see if they average 27k in stands when they suck like we did for yrs

That sucks!   Can the league put Lawrence on the 6 game suspended list?   I know I'm dreaming but it would be nice to see the league take a stance here and doll out a significant suspension.

Doling out extra punishment for a hit for causing a concussion of  a guy who gets chronic concussions and arguably had no business playing is quite a precedent.

Do you blame the guy who gets robbed because he was wearing an expensive watch? Ridiculous!

And if so. Does the offender get off because the victim should have known better?

Doling out extra punishment for a guy who had demonstrated repeatedly a blatant disrespect for the rules and the safety of other players?  Yea.  Actually Zontar, you really should probably just leave this alone because you're coming off as a total horse's ass.  Stand up for your team, but not for a **** move like this one.

edit:  sorry, was thinking of Kyries Hebert as the repeat offender.  My bad.

While I don't know about 6 games, I think one or two games susp plus a fine is fair enough.

But your continually bringing up Collaros's injury history in an attempt to minimize Lawrence's actions is way off base.  A cheap shot is a cheap shot either way you dice it up.

I mean, I don't always agree with the league's definition of a high hit or flags that get thrown on QB sacks.  But there's a reason why those flags are thrown regardless of what size the QB is or the impact of the hit.

If you want to debate whether or when the league should tell a player to hang it up because they've had too many concussions, fine.  I think that's legitimate.  But the rules are clearly defined as to which hits are legal and which are not, and Lawrence's was illegal.  /Of debate.
