The players signed pre-January 1 likely had big portions of their salaries paid from this year's SMS.

    Not necessarily.

Last year we re-signed Willie at the end of November but we ended up going over the cap so they either paid the fine to have more room in 2023 or his salary did not count against the 2022 cap.

3DN reported it was the club's option whether or not they wanted his 100k signing bonus to count against last year's cap or not.

None. Among imps it’s very limited too.
Not including QBs, lawler. Though I haven’t seen the details on wjs newest deal. Lewis makes more. Not many guys in general other than QBs make more money than Willy.

Where he ranks as highest paid non-QB would depend on whether or not other players reached some or all their bonuses.   He's tied for 8th (with 4 other players) for a base salary but could be as low as 13th (3 way tie) if every player maxed out their bonuses.

Guys making more or the same as Willie in 2023 (per 3DN):

    Defensive Line: Orimolade (240k), Mauldin (200-209k), Betts (180-206), Ceresna (205-215), Lanier 250k

    Receiver:  Lewis (320k), Lawler (250-258k), Dunbar (200-206k), Gittens (200k), White (187-220k)

    Offensive Line: Desjarlais (250.5-256.5k), Korte (220-229k), Beard (200-207.5k), Figueroa (199.8-205.8k), Bladek (190-200k)

  4. Even when he wasn't getting sacks, Willie was still making an impact and (arguably) had a better season than last year so I don't think age is an issue for him yet.  Rotation, or lack thereof, is a bigger issue (imo).

    2022: 33 tackles, 7 sacks, 10 knockdowns, 2 forced fumbles & 1 interception.

    2023: 21 tackles, 11 sacks, 13 knockdowns, 3 forced fumbles & no interceptions.

Harris is the right QB to have in Riderville now,  they need a veteran who can get the ball out quickly.   What they really need to fix quickly is that o-line any QB is going to get killed playing behind them.

Harris maybe a good fit for them but as you said, any QB is going to get killed and at his age, that's a huge issue for them.  They've been trying to fix the oline "quickly" for a few years now but JOD doesn't seem to know how to do it.

Not pull Demski...Bailey....No player with a torn Hammy is of am=ny use and was just going thru the motions, as more a decoy and when Mtl realized he and Schoen were of zero threat...Limited Demski and Lawler were smothered...and if Ambles wasnt worth a cup of piss and not gonna be used...why was he here?...and yeah Bolo dressed....didnt see field....and Mcrae was there but not on roster....but game prior what was point of dressing him?

I get your point, but any receiver....a guy right off the street who could run a basic set of routes, and had hands would have helped the offence out....and remember...Osh said all our guys are number ones...thats why we they are here...well coach...back that crap up then and stand by it and put money where your mouth is.....and he didnt...and we payed for it

I'm sure Ambles is wondering that too.  You bring in a veteran receiver as a back-up in case of injuries and then don't use him when that exact scenario plays out. What was the point of signing him?

BOLO is also a pending FA.  Unless he was also banged up, what does that say about his future with the club?  It doesn't exactly send a vote of confidence that he can't get a single ball thrown his way, despite how depleted the receiving core was.

Orton back after 18 months & Punk stole the show. Maybe Punk coming back a PPV later would have been the right call?

Survivor Series was in Punk's hometown so that was the best place for him to return, plus the longer they waited, the more likely the news would have leaked.  If they were going to hold off on a return, Orton would have been the one to wait.

How am I here posting Walter’s two year extension before  anyone else. Does no one listen to radio anymore?

Thread title: 2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News.

Lots of talk about it in this and other threads.

No, check out Farhan Lalji & Dave Naylor's discussion on TSN during GC week. It isn't pretty & not all 3 will be back. In the meantime, work to sign veteran free agents has already started with other CFL teams but not us. There's no one there who can do the work, according to Naylor & Lalji. So. I didn't make it up. The info comes from TSN.

And having to answer to no one for that decision.

If Osh is the GM & Head Coach then yes. Look at the other teams in the CFL who have dual positions like Calgary & Edmonton. We can only hope that media stories yesterday pf everyone coming back is true.

So when Lalji and Naylor (of all people) say it, you take as gospel but when other, more locally in touch media report on it, you take a wait and see approach?

  10. I have no doubt we were banged up at receiver but we had guys we could have used instead.  Did BOLO even see the field?  Ambles was brought in for this exact scenario and wasn't dressed.  Grant started the game at receiver but I didn't notice him there after that.  The options were there and we chose not to use them.

The decision to let these all these guys play in their condition was a failure of the coaching staff and the players themselves.
