Agreed. I was just pointing out that we don't technically need a back up NI RB with the way we've been using the roster lately.
You're right that we currently don't but other teams might not have that flexibility so they would potentially need to pay BO and a back-up. Could get very expensive for a team to go that route.

Do we still have them? Finished the season on the PR, for FA unless re-signed.
We have them. Both guys got stashed on the one game IR so they did not finish the season on the PR.

Thats why last yr already after the Grey Cup fail of 2022 that players like Thomas...Briggs...even Augustine to name a few should have been let go, and at least 1 free-agent of substance could have been brought in, along with some actual prospects, as opposed to waiting now until the 11th hour.
Also leads to our draft strategy of special teamers only....guys with none to minimal upside to contribute on the actual offence/defence....A legit Full back/large running back type ...for one would have went a long way to allowing one of Fox/Hba/Garbutt to be on the roster all yr developing so that for 2024...they are legit first team candidates
We allocated some salaries, and bodies to the roster that served minimal purpose, or the purpose they served wasn't worth the price they ate up.....now was that on the HC....or the GM?....
TBF, they did go out and sign a big FA last year without letting those guys go - his name is Kenny Lawler and that was a pretty substantial signing. Most likely won't be able to do something similar this year without some of those moves though.

Fort Hew is getting a new name...
Bombers’ home to be renamed Princess Auto Stadium
https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2024/01/22/bombers-home-getting-new-name
I am a fan of Princess Auto, but this feels like the equivalent of Giant Tiger Stadium.
I don't disagree - I'm no stranger to Princess Auto but their brand is low budget and the products are often low quality so that's what comes to mind when people think of them.
At the end of the day, it's money in the club's account though so that's all that really matters. Still Fort Hew to me anyway!

Kongbo will be just another player strung along by teams offering the moon and then cutting them loose before the bill is due.
That's something you rarely see from this club - I hope players/agents recognize this when negotiating with Walters. Yeah, another team can sign you to a bigger deal but will you actually collect that money?

Sayles is closer to Walker than he is to Stove (or at least what Stove used to be).
Neither guy is a liability, just not as good as what we had so we should be looking to improve because we know it's possible. This was Walker's first year as a starter so we'll see how much he progresses.

Kolankowski "killed it" here?
From where he came from to where he's at now, you could say he is (relatively speaking of course).
He was a 6th round draft pick, who was out of football for 2 years and then had to drive down to one of our FA tryouts just to get a look. That screams TCF but he's made the most out of his opportunity here.

Hard enough for Walters to re-sign his own FA's, never mind having money left over to shop for outside talent.
Yup, which is why we're still thin at DT. Stove and Sayles left and we haven't been able to adequately replace them (Stove in particular).
They've done fairly well keeping the rest of the positions stocked.

It already has been over. Largely due to only having bargain bin money in free agency, but we’ve lost far more in fa than we’ve gained every year since 21 maybe 19. Bc has taken more from us in that time than we’ve gotten out of league free agency.
We've also had less holes to fill than other teams. Other than at DT, we haven't really had a need to go hard in FA.

We have essentially 1 other that matters in the sense random people can name them.
And prior to Harris we had none but yet the club survived. Having locals does have off-field value but the club will be just fine with or without BO.

I'm not sure why people think they didn't get enough, or dropped the ball. Lol. As soon as that clock hit 00:00 in the Grey Cup, Brown was gone. He was never coming back regardless of the wishful thinking. Getting anything for what is essentially an unproven QB who was absolutely going to the FA market is a very solid move.
Good luck to Brown. And Fantastic move by Walters.
The fact that he was leaving is irrelevant. If the trade was made earlier, before teams started re-doing their QB contracts, there could have been a bigger market/demand and gotten a bigger return. Key word is "could", there's no guarantee that he could have gotten more for him.

that's the other part of this move from Walters POV.... you're keeping him outta the West. So that, plus a pick which could be a ST guy or something..... it's a win.
It's supposed to be a deep draft this year so I'd take a flyer on an NFL guy with that type of "free" pick. We don't currently have any of those high level guys waiting to catch on down south (other than Ford I guess but I expect him back this year). Could be a good time to add a future prospect.

Lower price than I expected but if he was going there anyhow it's better than nothing I guess.

Totally disagree, the top 2 receivers on either team could be interchangeable, and overall top to bottom the Lions have the league's most dangerous receiving corps IMO. Looking over their roster at this time of the year they have 7 receivers 6'-3" or taller, including a 6'-8" 225 lb. monster. The Bombers have 2, Alston and BOLO, whos' probably headed out the door.
The most dangerous receiving core when they play indoors, maybe. All that size hasn't done squat for that team when it counts (ex: in the cold at IGF, come playoff time).

interesting story... never played college ball, so he's getting a shot in the East-West Bowl:
Good for Stiggers, he showed he is good enough to play down there. Also sets an example for other players who have the skills but not the grades to go to college - it shows there may still be a path forward for them.

TBF, no matter what news the 4 stripe fans get, as long as they still have to cheer for that team, how good can the news really be?

That’s pretty awesome. Looks like 25k off the cap plus however they may have worked that bonus with being against the bonus cap and this year/last year.
Yeah good deal for both sides. His cap hit goes from $310k to $285k but his actual take home pay goes up because he gets a big signing bonus which gets taxed way less. Win-Win!
