GC was less than a month ago!!!!! WHY HAVEN"T WE SIGNED ALL THE FA YET?!?!?!?!
If we don't sign GENO LEWIS AND MCMANIS BY THE END OF THE MONTH, NEXT YEAR WILL BE A DISASTER!!!!Yep, it's a bit early to be panicking. At this time of year, you'll get a few key guys signed (which we have already) and some TCF signed (which we have also done) but most of the signings come in January & February
Compare what we did last year at this time to what we have done so far, it's a very normal start to the off-season. I'd actually say we're ahead of schedule by having 2 key guys (Castillo & Bryant), and another important guy (Jones) already locked up - last year we only really had Willie signed by this point.
2023 signings after GC:
Nov 27 2023: Collin Kornelson, Max Charbonneau, Breton Macdougall, Jonathan Rosery
Dec 7, 2023: Ronnie Blackmon
Dec 11, 2023: Willie Jefferson
Dec 19, 2023: Pat Neufeld
Dec 20: 2023: Tanner Cadwallader, Redha Kramdi
Dec 21: 2023: Deatrick Nichols, Anthony Blue
Dec 22: 2023: Cam Lawson

For a team supposedly circling the calendar for a Grey Cup home game this coming season, we're sure off to a great start this off season. Noeller has kept telling us the past 3 years that This. Is. The. Year. we go all in. Well, Losing Ted Goveia, Buck Pierce & maybe even Danny McManus isn't a great start. Hopefully this doesn't become a bleak off season with management, coaches & player departures. Hopefully, we do have money left over to sign key free agents we want to keep as well as players from other teams. Moral of the story, you win when you can & not just when you want to. Picking a date only works with weddings. I always thought that, "All IN" for 2025 was a dumb theory to begin with.
Losing Goveia & Pierce was just a matter of time. As far as McManus goes, if Goveia wants to bring him along to Hamilton, he'd have to get permission from the Bombers. Given the loss of the other two from football ops, I could see the club declining that request this time.

Looks like no money left over in the kitty to re-up players after this season, they didn't have much last year either. Normally Willie would be quick to re-sign after Stanley and Neuf would usually sign 3rd, as it's a quicker process for players who don't use agents. Jake will drag out the process and sign at the last minute.
History says different.
The last two years Willie re-signed in November while Stan re-upped in January. Previous to that they both signed new deals in January (Willie was first one year and Stan was first the other).

In all likelihood he will have a number of very restrictive conditions placed on his release and he will be placed on the national/international sexual offenders list. All this means that his having any sort of professional career is gone and he will probably have to report to police any change of address. He is not scot-free by any means. FYI: virtually all offenders were victimized as children, which does not give them any licence, And not all victimized children become abusers.
Article says no sex offender list but yes he'll have conditions to abide by. Still seems to be an extremely lenient sentence.
"Christophe Normand will, however, be able to serve his three-month prison sentence intermittently, i.e. during weekend.
He will then be subject to three years of probation, with several conditions to be met, including two years of monitoring for any sexual issues. His name will not be entered in the Sex Offender Registry."

Surely he’s credited with time served already. I remember hearing about this several years ago. Took a while to reach the verdict. I don’t agree with him only getting 3 months but this prob took 3 years. Personally I think he should have his weiner surgically removed.
He was charged in August 2022 and found guilty in April 2024 so just over 2 years which seems about right for our system. He had been out on bail so credit for time served doesn't apply.

Ex-Bomber Christophe Normand going to prison for 3 years.
"charged with luring a minor for sexual purposes in 2022 and was later found guilty. The victim was a 15-year-old girl who attended the school at which Normand worked as a substitute teacher during the off-season."
Should be years but it's only months.

In regards to Masoli. I'd rather not have a guy who is one light hit away from ending his career. I don't think that they will be bringing in any other veteran QB's next season.
I think Collaros is (and has been for years) is closer to that scenario than Masoli is.

We often seem to recycle camp dbs into the next year, idk if that’s ever worked out for us. Db is especially in our system is kind of a quick make it or miss position. But it’s also hard like you said to get 20-30 db bodies in camp. If a guy brings some thing you like and has the upside makes some sense to fill out with them.
I was thinking about that during Grey Cup when the Argo's re-added Robert Priester to their active roster. He's a prime example of a recycled DB who has bounced around, going on and off the active & practice rosters for us (twice), Edmonton and Toronto but never seems to really stick. He's been cut & brought back like 15-20 times between the 3 teams - his transaction page on the CFL site is really long for a guy who's only played 28 games in 6 years.

Maybe as fans we are just tired or over exposed to over analyzing everything? On this board it feels like the fans are much less excited with the new faces that we bring in. Then again when they waste a full year of a roster spot for a navy seal with zero upside and a zero college career and comparing that to the not so long ago past when we would bring in guys who at least had size or speed and/or a great college career... it is concerning.
I would say as far as the Bombers go, we are under exposed. We used to get good TC reports and things like that but now we get next to nothing. We mainly just get to see guys like Jackson waste a roster spot on game day and have to speculate as to why. Was he doing something in practice that showed promise and we just never got to hear about it or see it?

this seems based on absolutely nothing... Pierce interviewed for head coach roles last season... he took a job in BC this year. i don't get where you figure there is animosity. Goveia also took a promotion... that happens. as for no thank yous... have these moves even been made official? give it time.

Yeah, not saying that Buck has an axe to grind with fans here but those comments had to hurt. I read some of them here.
Only if he paid attention to them. Coaches/players/officials are probably best served by not going anywhere near places like this - we're all on the outside looking in so what we say doesn't hold any weight but could still be bad for you mentally. You could be the best ever in your role but one slip and people will s**t all over you.

I've been away the past 3 or 4 days through all the appointments of head coaches & general managers. One thing, maybe I'm wrong here but I sure get the impression that both Goveia & Pierce (Buck especially) couldn't wait to leave. I think Pierce is pissed off the fanbase blames him for the Grey Cup loss when it was O'Shea who told Collaros to get back in there with his wounded finger.
I haven't heard a thank you, Winnipeg from either of them. As a fan, I'm not asking for much but ignoring the team you came from because some fans made you angry seems petty if that is so & even a little classless.
I don't think that's the case at all. Both guys have been candidates for GM/HC jobs for a couple years now so it was only a matter of time. If either guy wanted to advance their career (which they both did and now have done), it wasn't going to be in Winnipeg, at least not at this time with Walters & MOS here.
As far as a thank you goes, it's only been a day (for Buck) or less (for Ted) since their hirings were made official. Give it time. Winnipeg was very important to Buck and his family so I'd be shocked if he didn't say something at some point. I don't think I've ever heard anything from Ted - he's been more of a behind the scenes guy so I'm not sure that will change.

I will disagree, the last two seasons at least we've brought in a whole lot of players who are barely depth level players in the league. I can't think of anyone new that is remotely close to being considered an all star level of talent. The d-line and lbers have rotated in and out with very little success. The punter is god awful. The o-line has aged and the only new blood that saw lots of play time is a Rider cut. Our import talent has been a whole lot of meh. Our Canadian talent has looked as good as it has in the past so I will say for that part we are doing a good job of bringing in fresh faces that can make plays.
Lofton was a Bomber before he was a Rider as he played for us in 2022. He also wasn't cut, he played out his contract with Sask and came back here early in Free Agency.

I think it's all about how good one's batting average is, and in this case, pretty good.
Agreed - just pointing out that it wasn't all homeruns. There are other examples too (Josh Johnson) but the bigger issue with those guys is the fact they were wasting active roster spots which has nothing to do with scouting.

Yeah really only had one guy starting this year who was our own first rounder in Dobson. Most of the Canadians they've built around have been 2nd round and below.
TBF, other than Dobson, the only other 1st round pick we've had in the last 5 years was Bennett.
We traded down this past draft to get 2 early 2nd rounders in a deep draft (Clercius & MCI). We traded our 2022 pick for Lawson & we traded our 2020 pick in the Collaros trade.

??....Goveia has been almost primarily our NAT scout and he's done a pretty darn good job at it. However, there has been nothing meh about the talent we've brought in as IMPs either. We have gotten excellent, far above average scouting from our team. This has allowed us to stay at the top of the pile in the CFL for many years now. I understand that many guys here are upset that we lost 3 winner take all games, but it is has gone full on bananas with people discounting entire seasons we have either led the CFL or finished 1st in the West. That kind of sustainability is exceedingly difficult, and is the work of excellent recruitment, management, and coaching. It is bizarre to suggest otherwise. Some fans here need to eat some humble pie. This is not Saskatchewan for cripes sakes, we are the envy of the league.
I agree with you for the most part but we've definitely seen some meh talent here (see Damien Jackson).

Battle and Jones before Bighill in my mind. Not sure who else I am missing at linebacker.
Yep, that LB group (Battle, Jones, West) we had in the late 80's - early 90's was incredible. I'm kind of surprised Battle isn't already in there tbh. When they picked the all-time Bomber team for the club's 75th anniversary, Battle was the only LB selected.

Looks like McManus is out of the running for GM in Hamilton. Does not even being a finalist reduce the chances of him being offered/accepting a similar role to what he's already doing here?

100%.
3DN has an article up about Charleston Hughes defending the Stamps organization after guys like Ka'Deem roasted them but even he says that those coaches were just fall guys. Don't really buy his "bad blood from ex-players" excuse though because Parades also said the organization has gone downhill in the last 5 years and he's still with the club.
Quote"I think Juwan was a casualty. I don’t think he had anything to do with what happened with that team. When it comes to Monson, he’s a great defensive coordinator. He was one of those guys that’s up to be a head coach someday in the CFL. Kilam, he was the assistant head coach in Calgary. I don’t know how that even comes about. Why do you go off and get rid of your next-up guy for the team? I have no clue and I don’t think nobody will understand that one,” he said. "I guess after leaving a situation like that, somebody has to be the fall guy. Those three guys became the fall people in that situation."

I'd like that but he's not a pending FA this off-season. BLM might be the present starter in Hamilton but not the future so I imagine the ticats will try to extend Powell before 2026.
