He makes it sound like much more of an insider tip than it is; it's more of a not-so-hot hot take. What he gets right, They should've consulted coaches closely long before finalizing changes. This should've involved lower levels, and if it happened as announced, it would really screw a lot of teams and cause a lot of problems and work. I'm not a traditionalist; I believe in pursuing improvements in the game/league. If it makes the game and league better, it should change. That said, a big chunk of these changes don't stand a chance at improving anything. Where he is wrong, DAZN money will start next year. Carrier change deals like this always come with up-front cash. Now teams may want to pay off some debt and actually post a positive year for once before having to spend on these changes, but they've already locked the changes in before the deal was agreed to. Meaning they had a plan to pay for it aside from this cash winfall. The bombers don't have to rely on rider fans for sell-outs; the riders do have to rely on us. They jumped ship fast when we passed them in 19; that isn't loyal. Tradition isn't important at the cost of survival, and 1 team making a profit isn't sustainable. The league does badly need to build in a younger fan base. The problem is these changes won't do that, and it is much more of a team problem and a broadcaster problem. No way it happens? I guarantee some of the changes will go through at least. They made too big a deal out of it and have too much on the line with DAZN to just peel it all back. -You can bet the playoff format will happen. That is just free money for the teams and league. -The change of benches being on opposite ends should've always been the case. -55 yard line staying wouldn't be hard to change much. This was a silly change. -End zone depth goes hand in hand with field goals at the back. But they also work against each other. The impact of a smaller endzone will be far greater than moving the uprights. -Moving the season up, this is just bad business. More overlap with the NHL and NBA playoffs is bad. TC in freezing weather is bad. Having the end and beginning of the season in bad weather is a terrible idea. This whole deal doesn't feel like the CFL's goal. It feels like the first hard step towards the goal. I think that goal is a soft merger with the XFL. (AL vs NL in baseball back in the day style) If the league keeps the 55 yard line, they don't have to do nearly as much with the end zone. Move the upright for each game, but you can have the new small end zone with a 2nd line for the old larger one.
