Has that happened before in the CFL?

Henry Burris and Mike Reilly come to mind just off the top of my head. Probably others too.

If Strev was to come back next yr, With the 2qb rule being on field together I'd offer him a fair deal, as 1B but also an incentive laden one for TD's ...Yards....etc...And use him at same time...TE on big packages...2 RB set...where you dont know if he will run or pass....Use the heck out of him...Short Yardage specialist......You could effectively replace JA...Jackson and Prukopp salaries with Strev....get 2 firt yr entry level guys to fill the roster spots of Jackson and Auggie, and also wouldnt have to waste a DA spot with Jackson who offers nothing that anyone else could...thats what I would do

when he is reay...Likely this spring...He will be contacting us first and foremost and give us every chance to get a deal done before he looks elsewhere if it doent suit him

The offence would be soo damn deadly.

How do you guys feel about RIchmond?? I think we've been hanging onto him as we think he may be Bryant's replacement. Personally I thought he looked rusty at times,

I thought he did well.

I don't think any team gives Brown a starting job or starting salary.

Ottawa could dump Mazoli, sign Brown to compete for the starting job and use the savings to upgrade the rest of the team.

Riders could dump Harris, sign Brown to compete for the starting job and use the savings to upgrade their O line.

Montreal could dump Faj-jj... etc.

Hamilton could dump BLM... etc.

Edmonton will continue with Ford as he gave them hope this year.

Stamps will continue with Maier as he got better in the 2nd half of the season.

IMO, the most likely spot is Ottawa where Dru would get the most money and have the easiest route to starting.

I think there are at least 2 teams that would offer him starting money. Probably be mostly performance based tho.

Arbuckle got a ton of chances and never lived up to his 'potential'. He's the perfect example of why you don't give a young QB a starting job with a bunch of money. You give them a chance to compete for the starting job, a lowish base salary with a bunch of bonuses for being THE guy.

I disagree that Dru would be the best QB on most of those teams.

For once I am agreeing with you.

The fact that some people on here think Edmonton would dump Tre Ford for Dru Brown is crazy talk.

Guys like Shiltz, Arbuckle, Harris, Powell, and even Fartardo would have fantastic stats playing with our guys in our system.  Unfortunately for all of those guys they are playing under fire and with significantly less support from the run game and receivers.

I don't see Calgary or Saskatchewan signing him with starter salary.  Saskatchewan with season ticket sales going down will either keep Harris or make a splash for Rourke, Strev, BLM or someone with a name.    Calgary will do the same,  DD isn't the kind of guy who picks up the major positions from other teams.

Best bet is Ottawa and maybe they will get him?

Why would they have to dump him?  He's still on his rookie deal so he's getting peanuts next season.  They can still try to bring in Brown without moving Ford.

Jones clearly isn't a huge fan of Ford and has already stated camp will be an open competition next year so it's not inconceivable that they take a run at Brown.

Jones is insane so it is a possibility,  but how can they afford Brown and Ford at a high salary in 2025?  I would assume Brown wouldn't sign a 1 year deal?

Maybe he trades Ford to Ottawa and signs Brown that could be a possbility?

That's a 2025 problem. Jones needs to worry about 2024.  I don't think he has the job security to be worried that far in advance.

If Ford can't show more improvement, he won't get a huge increase.  If Brown only shows that he's the next Arbuckle, they can cut or trade him.

Especially Dickinson is CGy he will ride Maier into next yr as he doesn't wanna be seen as a GM who made a mistake....they need to switch up what they do on offence tho to make him more effective

If he is still showing to be just not getting it done with no upside by labour day I bet they make a trade tho

I don't know why I'm going on and on about the Stumps but DB 's style of play reminds me a bit of how DD played and how DB would fit nicely into an offence DD would like to run.

I get the pride thing, the investment thing but I also get the they don't have the luxury waiting for Maier to turn into something (see Elks as an example with TC).

I've watched the CFL for some time now and I can't remember historically a time the drop off from QB talent from the top tiered teams was so low as it is now.

Yeah seems to be a cyclical thing...are we in the early stages of say 10 yrs from now guys like Brown...Powell....Forde...Dukes and some other random guy became really good successful QB's..I think that Kid in Ottawa who blew his knee out had some real potential...reminded me of early stages Damon Allen

I think Ottawa, Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Montreal and Hamilton all make offers to Brown.

With the current stable of QB’s, some teams might have to loosen their grip on the 1 qb system and consider a 2 qb system other than short yardage. For example used effectively DB and Tre Forde could be a dynamic duo for the Elks.

I can't name a team that's overly invested in a QB. Every team has played at least 2 guys this year trying to find some success.

Pro football is entirely about next season.  Brown will get a 3 year deal, but no one will be worried about placating a guy on a rookie deal who has barely started producing.

Ford also has eyes on the NFL constantly.  Ford also is a terrible passer which will limit his ability to score points/win games as defenses just let him sit in the pocket all day and try to make reads.  See the games they needed to win to stay in playoff race back third of this season.

Doubt Brown is interested in Edmonton or Montreal though because Jones and Maas ruin QB's lately.  He'll have teams where the offensive staff has elevated guys to MOP type play interested in him being their franchise guy.  Unfortunately for us those two teams (Calgary and BC) are in our division.

Yeah Edmonton will be interested for sure.  The way Ford plays too there's very little chance he avoids serious injury for a full season so they'll need someone else.

Could easily do the Collaros (or Nichols) and Streveler type deal with Ford.  Have a guy who can actually pass.

I agree.

Realistically, it's Ottawa, Hamilton, or Regina and any of those teams could decide to just keep their vet QB instead.

Shultz & Evans both have way more experience which means they are less risky to move forward to #1.

I'd bet good money Masoli and Harris never play another snap in the CFL, Nevermind start for a team. I'd also bet good money both are already as good as gone from their respective teams. It would be absolutely insane to keep either one over a guy like Brown. Neither have done anything in 2+ years now.

Hamilton depends on how their season goes from here. 1 and done. And I'd be calling Walters about Brown. MTL too. Fajardo and Bo need to win in the playoffs to save their job imo.

Invested what in? An investment in losing won't help. Ssk, ott and maybe cgy all HAVE to improve next year. MTL and Hamilton I see as potential bidders depending on how things go.

Agreed on Masoli and Harris.  Harris has an injury that most guys who have it in their late 20s never recover from.  Not exactly like he looked like he could play before that this season either.  Most games that offense was scoring 1 TD with him.  Fine and Dolegala way outplayed him and they weren't good either.

Masoli has started 14 games in the past 3 seasons and left 4 of them with injuries, 3 of them long-term injuries, 2 season-ending (Game 4 and Game 1 for him in those seasons).  Also tore his ACL game 6 in 2019 vs Bombers.  Unless he shows up at about 205 pounds I doubt anyone is counting on him to be a player anymore.

100% accurate ,   same goes with Jones in Edmonton.

Six out of 9 CFL teams (except Toronto, Hamilton & BC) will be after Dru Brown in Free Agency. Argos have Kelly and BC paid a steep price for VAJ last off season as replacement for Rourke. BC might kick some tires on Brown but I doubt they'll be serious contenders for his services. If Milanovich or Burris (or Buck Pierce) are HC In Sask, then as much as I would hate it, I could see Brown going there. In Alberta Dickenson knows Maier is hot garbage and Calgary will for sure make a play for Brown too. Yes, Edmonton has Tre Ford but Jones kept him on the bench forever and obviously prefers an American QB if possible. Dumb, but probable. Crum? Fajardo? Masoli? Brown potentially looks very appealing as a replacement for any of them so all 3 of those clubs will join in the Brown sweepstakes. That leaves Hamilton who might kick some tires on Brown but I think Taylor Powell will be their guy next season as he has actually been pretty good over there. All of this puts Bombers in a nice position when it comes to ceding neg rights for Brown. Makes we wonder why we don't make a real effort to keep Brown here, although, sadly, I don't expect it.

I dunno....A QB isn't just what SASK needs for any semblance of turning things around, and truthfully....a QB going there is gonna suffer, and to expect Dru to do there, what he seems to do with ease here....he will get ruined there, and likely be a negative career defining time for him.

Any semblance of a legit opp to look like what he has here, of teams possibly offering him anything is in Mtl...but how tied to the Faj is Maas....next spot is CGY but I honestly can't see DD admitting he messed things up there and dumping Maier...especially with guaranteed cash and him being the GM.... new GM at that....not a ringing endorsement of sucess

I not sure hese buckets of gold at the end of a rainbow, and the big competition for him is gonna be all what people think

Smart thinking, and forward looking by him and his agent might just be negotiating the best he can get here, and not hamstringing the team....like a lot of his teamates have before him, incentive laden it...in case of injury/degrading play by ZC and continuing what he has been here.

2025 is a long time away, and lots can happen and maybe he beats put ZC for job in 2025....and ZC renegotiates a team friendly deal to be back-up and have chance to go out a Champ right here on IG Field

An angle many aren't looking at...and quite possible

Absolutely.  They overpaid Harris, and then was just a matter of time until he was done for the season.

Both Masoli and Harris are going to hang on as long as they can, how else are they going to make $500k in one year, BLM showing them the ropes on how to maintain the cash flow.

Sure sounds like Ottawa is thinking about Brown, which other QB would they potentially go after?  Burke and Dyce have one more year to right their ship, don't think they'll gamble their future on existing backups, Schiltz or Dane Evans.

"General manager Shawn Burke indicated that he and head coach Bob Dyce told Masoli that he won’t enter next season as the unquestioned starter despite being under contract with Ottawa on a deal worth a maximum of $508,000. The club’s plan appears to be dependent upon what other teams around the league do this off-season, though it’s clear Masoli will have to fight for the starting job if he remains with the team come training camp.

“We’ve communicated to Jeremiah that the situation will be a bit different than previous years and he understands that. What I promised him in terms of communication is once I know exactly what it will be, he will be informed and we’ll talk it through and see what happens,” Burke told TSN 1200."
