THE 4-1-1

Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. Sunday; Mosaic Stadium, Regina
TV: TSN1, TSN4, RDS, ESPN2
Radio: CJOB
The forecast: A mix of sun and cloud. High -10C.

Streaks: Winnipeg: 1L; Saskatchewan: 2W.
Home/Road: The Bombers are 4-5 on the road this year; the Riders are 6-3 at home.
Head to head, 2018: The Riders captured two of the three meetings this year, winning 31-23 in the Labour Day Classic in Regina and 32-27 a week later in Winnipeg in the Banjo Bowl. The Bombers countered with a 31-0 shutout on October 13th at Investors Group Field.
Playoff history: These two clubs last met in the playoffs in the 2007 Grey Cup, a game won 23-19 by the Riders. The Bombers last played in Regina in the playoffs on November 8, 1975, a 42-24 Saskatchewan victory in the West Semi-Final. Add it all up and the Bombers have lost seven straight playoff games to their arch-rivals dating back to a win here in Winnipeg in the 1965 West Semi-Final. The Riders hold an 11-9-1 advantage in the 20 playoff meetings between the two teams.

I believe we have the first regular season win and the first playoff win in their new stadium.

  • It's similar in some respects to IGF but very different in many ways. My (scattered) observations: I was on the East Side, wayyy up, third from last row. @trueBlue83 sat behind me. We seemed

It's hard to believe other officials didn't have a clear view of the hit from their vantage point.

Gotta say that the refcam was pretty cool today ... it's so easy to complain about missed calls, from the refcam you could see exactly why the hit wasn't called on the field.  Tough to appreciate how chaotic and crowded the game is from the couch or even the stands..

Good thing they have replay.  Need to use it for more than turnovers.  We got jobbed on that lateral that would have been a 20 yard loss.  Replay would have had the Riders punting from their endzone.

The weird thing was they called it a lateral and then changed it after.  Probably hoping the Bombers would recover so it would be autoreviewed.  I don't know how they can call it an incomplete forward pass 20 seconds after.  The ref has eidetic memory and had his own replay in his head?

I am just happy we won. We were the better team today. All the Rider fans crying can stfu.

How do you know that it wasn't the video replay official who changed the call from lateral to incomplete pass?  They don't announce when that guy helps out on a call.

If the video official overturned the call, he needs a visit to the optometrist.

Start of the season I picked the Bombers to win the GC. That hasn't changed all season.

The Replay Official will automatically review the following situations:

  • All plays ruled a score by the field officials.
  • Plays, out in space, where a touchdown may have been scored.
  • All unsuccessful field goal or convert attempts.
  • All plays where a turnover is ruled to have occurred as a result of a fumble lost or an interception.
    • During these reviews the Replay Official will review all Standard Reviewable Aspects.
    • Coach Challengeable Penalties are never reviewed as part of an Automatic Review.
    • A team may challenge a Standard Reviewable Aspect that has already been automatically reviewed by the Replay Official. If they win that challenge they will retain their challenge.
    • Pending the outcome of an Automatic Review, a team may decide to initiate a Coach Challengeable Penalty review. This review will be treated like any other Team Challenge.
  1. Replay Official Initiated Reviews:
    • Following the 3 minute warning in the fourth quarter all plays become subject to review by the Replay Official for Standard Reviewable Aspects only.
      • If the Replay Official wants to review a play, he will notify the referee to stop the game.
      • Coach Challengeable Penalties are never reviewed as part of any Replay Official Initiated Review.
      • A team must use a Team Challenge to initiate the review of a Coach Challengeable Penalty.

Those are the plays that can be booth reviewed along with called offside penalties to determine which team moved first.

O'Shea could have challenged it.

Soooooo,,,,,the mirror finally cracked and the smoke cleared...riders are who we thought they were...Good game  but I always felt the Bombers could have turned up the heat at any time and this one wouldn't have even been close.....Up next Cal....keep er going guys...I can smell a Cup appearance

Yes I'm wondering why he didn't.

For a good laugh read riderfans.com ...   It's amazing that they have equal amount of posts about Brandon Bridge being a sack of crap and terrible and then the same amount of posts about how dirty Jeffcoat is and how because he was hit in the head they lost the game.

The excuses are hilarious and of course not a single person making mention of the blatant holds,  the uncalled lateral,   the overall terrible performance from their run game....   it's so funny.

Great win.

That hit at the end of the game definitely should have been a 15 yarder. Always hate to see a player get injured, even if they are a Rider.

Bombers played pretty darn well and would have had an easy finish too if the refs hadn't gifted Sask a free six points. Happy for Mike O'Shea especially.

First playoff win since the LaPo era.

Oh and forever more the answer to which team won the first regular season game and which team won the first playoff game at New Mosaic will be the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

We've won more playoff games in their stadium than ours.

It's relevant because he's not a passer once he establishes himself as a runner.  Check the case book.

... but BB made a passing attempt on the play he was injured on, no? He was most certainly behind the line of scrimmage.

They have a decent team that kept it close for a long time.

Yes but the RTP rules are all based on the QB being in the pocket.  Bridge scrambles for about the entire width of the field all together.  That's why that hit would never be penalized as late, if Bridge remained in the pocket that hit is late regardless of where the contact is on his body.  On that play he's a runner, sure he can still throw because he hadn't crossed the line of scrimmage but he had lost the extra QB protection from the scramble.  The head contact is a penalty on any ball carrier.

BB was really good with his feet but way to slow with his reads. It killed them as our DB's did not have the best game but thankfully didn't hurt us.

The hit to the head should have been called but I don’t see it as an impact on the result.  It would have still come down to a highly improbable Hail Mary pass.

The missed blatant hold on Labatte during the 4th quarter on a 2nd down conversion was particularly brutal, not to mention a clear illegal block on their big punt return in the 4th. Just glad we came away with the win. Too close for comfort. D needs to step up their game next week, and dear lord I hope that's the last we see of Ian Wild in the starting lineup. Get well soon JSK.

Wilson actually played quite a bit.  I'll rewatch the game tomorrow but by my eye Wild didn't play many more snaps than he did with JSK in there as per the usual line-up, but he played more behind 40 fronts than usual as the Bombers didn't run much 30 front against the Rider run heavy O.

Clearly a lateral.

But if I stand behind that statement, will my statement be considered incomplete? 🤔😳🙃

I love how employing a two QB system more than third down conversions is slowly becoming more used.
