Regular Season Bomber News & Discussion

Training Camp is over, the roster has been set, and the biggest Q is who should MOS start at QB.

The Bomber Brass are comparing notes on that and have yet to decide so its not clear cut by any means. The default is Ross by a nose but we could have 3 legit thoroughbreds in our stable all at once.

I personally believe Steveler has the most upside based on pure talent, scrambling pizzazz, and the ability to see the whole field. He is also the most likely to turn the ball over and make gigantically good plays. Ross will protect the ball best and run the short game well.

Ross may have played the most regular season downs but Bennett has the most experience especially in the Bomber system. I can see us saying later in the year "why didn't we start using Bennett earlier?" He is my pick for short yardage QB but I would be happy with Steveler in that role too.  My best guess: Ross starts but Steveler comes in as soon as Ross has two or three bad series in a row.

Hypothetically maybe Lapo feels Streveler and his running ability combined with Harris, Augustine and Demski gives the club an offensive look that can really exploit the Eskimos D.

Streveler is the more talented QB but his inexperience will show.  Hopefully we can keep the gameplan simple enough that we avoid the big mistakes.

Especially if LaPo is loading up the running attack to surprise the Esks, Streveler is more LeFevour, Ross is more Nichols.

Either guy makes me nervous....Looks like a coin-flip and cross everything....fingers ...eyes...toes..I only hope we leave whoever starts in for awhile and don't pull on the leash too quick....Whoever follows him up might be on a shorter one...What a predicament ...No choice but to work around it and hope the D comes up BIG(HILL)

This could also change week to week, if desired results are not there.....

Positive signs on the #Bombers injury front. Three players Mike O’Shea described as either out longer-term or they’re being cautious with — Ian Wild, Kienan LaFrance, and Moe Leggett — are all practicing in some capacity today. Jermarcus Hardrick is also back.

that must be why cjob still has the exact same radio adds from back in 95. ab a l o n aaabbbaalooon.

I think we will see some quick changes mid game. streveler with an option package. If we use him as our short yardage option too we could pull out some trick plays. I think we end up with an active 2qb system.

All great news. Wild as a full time teams guy could be a big help, and if Mo can get back to his MOP form our D goes up to maybe the best in the league.

Watch Ross take the first team reps tomorrow as a ploy by O'Shea to screw with the Eskimos...only half kidding...

No, no....we will bone them by starting Bennett.  They will be helpless as kittens.....

I'm very skeptical about starting Streveler over Ross.

I think their best chance to win is a strong option type offense with Streveler controlling the clock to give the D a chance to win it.

None of these QBs are worth a **** as passers yet.

If Ross is the starter then this would be one hell of a surprise. Streveler has gotten all of the first team reps and the occasional second team ones. Ross has had all second string work.

All I can say is that I'm excited. I don't think Streveler would have been my choice, but this is going to be a wild ride. He is going to have a bunch of splash plays - both positive and negative.

Except Calvillo's first year in Vegas was:

154 / 348 for 44.3% completion percentage, 2,582 yards, 13 TDs, 15 ints and a 64.4 passer rating.

Took Calvillo some time to get to elite in the league.

It would be interesting to see how the league has progressed since then. Especially now with most NCAA offenses featuring much more CFL-friendly offenses, that would seem to at least give these new QBs more of a shot at earlier success.

I'm not expecting much from Streveler, I just don't think the comparison to Calvillo is relevant. Its a fun footnote though.

The key is not coughing up turnovers for 6, like against the Lions.....

Finishing up a few more things from camp today (saw almost all of it except the first 3 minutes of drills):

Streveler was much more comfortable as practice progressed. They finished the practice with 10 minutes of scrimmage drills. Streveler started and got about the first 3-4 minutes, then gave way to Ross for a few minutes. Bennett got one throw and then Streveler finished the rest of the drill, probably another 4ish minutes.

Streveler had a really ugly screen throw to Dressler that went straight to the ground early on. The rest was mostly positive. Had a really nice ball to Bowman on a comeback route that he put low and away from the DB. Another play he went over the middle for Dressler, and he put the ball nicely ahead of Dressler and away from the diving defender. A few check downs and short throws. One play where he scrambled but if the DL was allowed to hit he would have been clobbered.

I would expect that we will use him creatively in the run game as well, so that should take some pressure off.
