While I like Flanders (and know he's on the 6 game IR), he doesn't bring anything different to this offense (certainly nothing that sets him apart from Demski).  Definitely happy to see a guy like Tompkins getting reps.

Sucks that Fenner is still down though.

Why do people keep bringing up Flanders when talking about replacing a receiver? He’s a running back who is a decent option in the short and screen passing game.

Difference is the occasional time Demski runs the ball it's an enormous surprise to the D.  As a direct replacement for Harris there would be little fall-off with Flanders and a cliff before Demski.

But that's not really what we're discussing .. it doesn't matter if Flanders is the best direct replacement for Harris (which I'd argue he isn't given that Harris is a NI and we have both LaFrance and Augustine on the roster as well), we're looking to replace Bowman's "production"

The issue with your argument is the bombers would never replace Harris with Demski, Demski is a change of pace back and slotback. The next logical replacement in my mind is Lafrance then Augustine. If neither of those work out we could reshuffle the roster and have Peterman or Simonise come in with Flanders starting at rb.

I compared their stats and you're right.

Despite Demski's smaller sample size as a ball carrier/rusher, the numbers say that Flanders is not "far superior".

You can't possibly even attempt to compare Flanders and Demski based off of stats. Flanders takes his runs like a traditional running back, while Demski takes his off of sweeps, end around and trick plays.

That's not entirely true either .. Demski has lined up in the backfield with some regularity this season.

Flanders receiving

definitely very reliable receiver.

gp   target     receptions yards average long  touchdown       yac

18      49            42            354       8.4    33        3                   241

easy to see why they keep him.

Most of Demski's runs whiile lined up as a running back have been up the middle.

Flanders as a receiver would just be a less glitchy version of Ryan Smyth.
