What will it take to beat Edmonton?

Reilly keeps tossing those long bombs downfield and his receivers keep getting them. We need a really good rush to neutralize his throwing ability but he is harder to catch than a greased pig.

Edmonton's defence isn't all that bad either. It ranks up there with Toronto's D. I don't know what holes Lapo is going to have to find but I like what he's been doing so far against everybody.

It would not surprise me if special-teams turns out to be the difference in this game. I just don't think it's going to be easy... on O,  D   or special teams

So what will it take to beat Edmonton?

  • Actually I don't think they have a better defense at all Their line-backing corp to a man isn't better. They have actually given up 1 more point against which isn't an indication of being better, but

  • We've gotta score more points than them over 60 minutes

  • Look at the post you quoted and REALLY read it.....

Gotta pressure Reilly. He's taken quite a beating so far this year and must be close to shattering in confidence if not body. It looks like the combination of Leggett and Santos-Knox might be enough on the outside to contain Reilly.  Go get him.

Unless there's overtime .. then let's say .. over 70 minutes?

Read it as 'over the course of 60 minutes'  (typical football game) .. which is what I think the poster was getting at.

Otherwise .. meh .. ;-)

....if we score more points than them over 60, there can be no overtime.........

I'm allowing for the slim possibility we don't get there in 60 minutes .. more than one way to skin a cat my friend.

But so this thread is not completely derailed .. priority one is not letting Reilly extend plays with his legs.  I don't have a whole lot of faith in our back end outside Heath and Randle.  Yes .. Alexander and Walker showed well last game but those guys are still pretty green and Edmonton has the horses to make us pay if coverage breaks down (and they can do it in a hurry).

Shut up baby I know it

Quite simply...play like we have been playing lately.

Our defense has been getting better. I think we need to contain Reilly. And unless they get some of those (a bit lucky) big plays in on offense, we should be okay.

Less hubris than you have shown in your post.

He is getting in the end zone this week. Seems like weeks he gets ripped real bad here he scores.

Why?

Last time we played them I believe we had Roc Carmichael in the lineup...and I'm unsure if we had Brian Walker.  Having Walker and Alexander playing alongside Heath and Randle will be key in limiting the Esks receivers.  It will be a battle though.  Much harder winning in Commonwealth.

We need to pick off some of those 50/50 balls. The score flattered Edmonton last time we played them because, even though guys were in position, we let them catch the big ones. We have a better lineup this week than we did then (in the secondary), but Edmonton also has better receivers this game.

I've seen suck before, but Lankford is the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked... how's that?

Or written a slightly different way, hope that the refs allow 50-50 balls to be played like they are 50-50 balls, rather than letting their receiver mug our DB and/or allow our DB to fight for a chance to pick the ball.

You could also hit Andre Proulx in the head with a whiskey bottle.  One day it could make a touching story for your daughter.
