If we want any realistic contender chance next yr...a lot needs to be addressed this yr..starting during the bye And if that means switching the ratio..givin Smith full reign on defence as one the ratio required starters...and have shay as a main backup so be it Also let Eli show he can..or cannot be the center and use that import spot on wr...a game here...reps there is no indicator...he needs 2..3 games with the same guards Also..Shay nees to play..drop one of Jones..Wilson...or Ayers and then use that Import spot on either true DT/Nose...or any other spot where a guy will help..not jusy be a 6 st plays a game type player Designate 5 cdns on offence..3 interior lineman..BO..Demski...2 on defence...Mainly Lawsons spot and Smith... And then utilize the best 3 DA to maximize roster value and ability to take reps..and at same time allow whoever they are to actually develop under game reps Osh will allow Korn..Scmeck..Kelly..Hallett to take excessive bad wasted reps doing nothing for the defence when he could use a better DA there to develop...and if ones not lingering around show no promise.. then Walter's best bring more in..pretty simple Also..accountability needs to be paramount..players and coaching...and again...if not happening Walters best be stepping in and addressing it...either with ultimatum..or fire...and cut...hes the boss..not No Balls

I agree with a full gutting being inevitable now. They blew their chance to reload and keep it going with several years of mediocre-bad drafting and poor American scouting, exacerbated by extremely foolish roster building decisions. Hiring/keeping the wrong staff (McManus, Hogan, Condell, Younger) Letting the wrong staff depart (Penn, Bourgoin to name a couple) O’Shea can’t level up a team through coaching. If he doesn’t have all-star talent and great coordinators running the room he’s useless. FIFO doesn’t work when you’re fitting in to complacency and incompetency. At this point, everybody in charge has had a hand in buggering the whole thing up.

For me, backup QB Harry Knight who played for the Bombers behind Dieter Brock from 1975-78. The graduate of the University of Maryland was brought in by Bud Riley & sure made an impression during his time here. Knight seemed more poised & "pro ready" than Brock. Brock was very inconsistent when he was a young pro. He seemed to have trouble reading defenses & Riley had him rolling out left & right to be able to read just half the field. Knight seemed more relaxed & in charge than Brock was. Brock had superior arm strength but Knight just seemed to have a better handle on the offense. Yet, Brock always started. Much to a lot of fans chagrin. Some media members started writing that Brock wasn't smart enough to play qb in thje CFL which he took very personally. Some of these writers did a real hatchet job on Brock. The contraversy continued for a couple of seasons until Knight had to retire because of a damaged rotator cuff which back then was a career killer. Knight had come up here a year after Brock in 1975 & took Brock to the limit competiton wise. Fans loved Knight. However. Ray Jauch put a stop to all that in 1978 when he took over as HC saying Brock was his guy. It was Jauch who got rid of the rollouts & OC Jim Erkenbech developed Brock into the deadly pocket passer with the lightning quick release that we all came to know. He went from a roll out qb with half the reads to a qb who could read the entire field. Once he learned how to do that, his passing really improved. Then Knight's rotator cuff injury halfway thru 1978 sealed the deal & Knight retired. If he hadn't been injured, Knight might have been our Number 1 qb for years to come as he played very well whenever he did go in for Brock in relief. It would have been interesting to have seen what might have happened had Knight stayed healthy.

The Bombers need an actual qb coach on the sidelines to talk to Brown & Elgersma & to calm them down or pick them up. Condell is too busy calling plays to worry about them on game days. he has the entire offense to worry about. think about it. We have a running backs coach yet we don't have a qb coach. Our qbs need help during the games yet they don't get it. Someone needs to tell Brown getting an extra 2 yards running forward instead of sliding isn't worth it if he misses 3 games because of a lower back injury. He has to be a lot, lot smarter than that. Whoops, sorry.

Yeah well we're not going to wind up getting a guy like Mack for the rest of the season. Given the Smurfs we have now adding Lewis for this year might help. In the offseason find a real solution
  18. 1 point
So you're saying don't make an attempt to get better? I agree he's a half season solution but it would help us a little. It would be great to play a bunch of young guys but we don't have them.

3DownNationOttawa Redblacks release three-time All-CFL receiver Euge...The Ottawa Redblacks have released American receiver Eugene Lewis and American defensive back Shakur Brown. Lewis had appeared in six games this season, catching 20 passes for 231 yards. In Friday’s lRBs cut Lewis. Walters should get his dumpster diving boots on cus thats worlds better then starting 3 canadian WRs. Beat me by like 1 second! haha Here are his contract details from this year. He's already made bank from the RBs. Im sure he will still want a decent chunk, but shouldn't be crazy. Not having a great year, but familiar with Brown and hes half a foot taller then most of our WRs. Hard money: $205,000 Maximum value: $212,000 "Does an $85,000 signing bonus make you a superstar? We’d like to think so, and so does Lewis. The 33-year-old will make $90,000 in salary this year, plus $15,000 in housing, $10,000 in marketing, and a $5,000 travel allowance. He can also collect up to $6,000 in standard escalating award and all-star incentives, plus another $1,000 for surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the fifth time in his career."

Listening to the tsn panel, during the Elk game last night, the overall opinion, including Milt was that we have the weakest corps of players in the league...I think most observers would agree, and that we might be looking at the first overall in the draft next year seems a big possibility....Small consolation for sure considering the big hopes we had for this year....I don't see any quick fix on the horizon for this club other than a rebuild starting now....We can see the deadwood but will it be addressed properly considering the head coach and his tendencies...Miller and Walters have to start doing their job....NOW and that should be a given

To be fair he never got a real chance to play until the Mike Kelly year in '09 and nobody could have success in that offence. I remember one game, I believe it was game 4 of the season vs the Argos - LeFors, Randall, and Richie Williams all played and I believe we're all cut or placed on the 9 game IR shortly after. And then they brought in Michael Bishop to run Manny Matsakis offence.

I dont think Ceresna is terrible, however, i dont think our current DL usage fits our defensive scheme. I think Youngers use of guys like Willie dropping out etc were so that his DBS could have that cushion we see. Now that our DL is playing downhill that gap becomes free yardage.

Reality of free agency is few impactful guys are available. Teams generally pay for the guys that are to keep them. There’s the guys going home and every so often someone like Lawler who priced himself right off his current team. The big failure here is we are not drafting or recruiting any real starting quality players let alone great ones over 3-4 years straight.

I was excited to have an experienced OC this year. I was wrong. Condell is unimaginative and spitefull. You can't blame Walters for not bringing in talent for Training Camp - the coaching staff needed to make some tough choices and they did not. You cannot move on from Walters and O'Shea this year, but we can certainly make the following moves: Condell needs to go. Younger needs to go. If the year is over because of it...so be it... we are not winning the Grey Cup this year with these two. We should start looking at rebuilding now. O'Shea needs to bring the hammer down (which I doubt he will) and hold his O & D coordinators accountable and have real, effective proper practices. Miller has been excellent at ST. Younger's defensive strategy is not working - and I cannot fully blame the players for not playing well in this BS scheme. LOur DBs play 15 yards off the line - which gives the other team a guaranteed 6-7 yards per play. The player's are not tackling well. DBs: Nichols is done - he does not have the speed he used too. He needs to be 6-gamed. Moxey - I am on the fence - but has not played well. S: We need to put someone at Safety that is both fast and aggressive. I thought Cam Allen looked good at Safety and Corner last year. LB: Why are we rostering 8 LBers? Kyrie shows glimpes - but is past his prime. DL: Ceresna and Jefferson have helped each other in kindling pressure. No contain - is this a player issue or a scheme issue? The DL NEEDS to contain - and push the play inward so the LB'rs can make a play. Condell play calling is suspect. The receivers are not getting open and the OL is not giving the QB time to throw the ball. REC: why play a 5th Canadian receiver? I think overall the receiver room is fine. RB: No better than Brady... by why run up the gap every...single...play, particularly when the D is flooding the box. QB: The QBs need to be better... but have they been told not to improvise and to follow the play call? OL: The OL has been the worst in 10 years. Put Bryant on the 6 game. He has been a star - but that time is long over. Make changes until the OL solidifies. Move Broxton when healthy to LT, and Vanterpool to RT. Wallace and Neufeld at G - and if Wallace can't hack it - put in someone or bring in someone that can. For C, we have Eli and Vibert...and if neither are good enough to supplant an American - why are we wasting roster spots? So, in review - fire or demote OC & DC. You can bring in a new inexperienced coach for offense (with Hogan/Costello's help), and one for defence (with O'Shea/Hall's help). Send a message to the team -> Fire Nichols, 6 game Bryant, and start a better 5th rec. If these changes don't work - rinse and repeat.

I think we have opposite problems on each side of the ball. D I wholeheartedly agree. Opponents are snapping the ball and we aren't even ready to play, especially in the secondary. Our guys on the field don't know how they are supposed to adjust their alignment to what the offense is showing, don't know what their responsibilities are. The reality of those positions on the field is you don't have even a half second to stop your feet and think. You need to know what you are doing even before the snap, can't figure it out as the play evolves. You can have all the best ideas as a coach and if the players can't execute it it's worth zero. Need to trust the players ability to make plays and give them a chance. Offense is way over simplified and can almost feel the players chafing under Condell. Our run game is the same inside zone play right or left, cross formation from whichever side of the QB Brady is lined up on. We come out and run that play successfully for a drive, and then don't see it for 2 quarters. We run a whole drive of jet sweeps and then never use that motion again. We run a nice screen, and then we run the exact same play 3 of our next 4 snaps. We have no vertical routes on most of our plays. So when we keep hitting those screens they work less and less because all of the defenders are waiting within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. 2 of our 4 biggest pass plays (not including jet sweeps counted as passes, forward laterals) were just Brown firing the ball out to the field WR when BC forgot about them, Cobb and Clercius. Why aren't we passing off the jet motion? Why aren't we using playaction? We can't pass protect 5 and 7 step drops, so you have to scheme to make a passing game work. If we have a strength it's Brady. And we need to build from that. I don't really know if there's a method to Condell's bundling of the same playcalls but it certainly isn't effective at all.
  43. By 0.2 of a point in aggregate. So basically no difference aside from the 0.1 risk of missing the kick in aggregate. 90% to get 1 point, just over 50% to get 2. Again, no accounting for game situation. Down 1 with 5 seconds left, go for 2 (coin flip) vs go for 1 (90%) to get into OT with more plays, more chances to win. Should be going for 2 more. But that data doesn't really give the meaning to that cause (always go for 2) that DT thinks.
