good post and valid concerns... DT we need to focus on really....and Receiver.....If we trade up to nab Vaccaro...even better really because 3 to 4 legit Canadian Olineman makes CFL roster that much better if it allows you to go heavy import on dline and or receiver...Just does Our National dline depth save for Lawson is putrid...Even with the expunging of our weakest piece it's still garbage. Bailey the global is our next best non American...we need serious upgrades there. Also I so dont want us to go 3 national receivers...we just dont have the horses...As it stands Clercius/Cobb and maybe a under radar Draftee this yr are adequate backups to Demski and Neild but seeing as we dont know how to utilize Clercius (Maybe Condell will fix that) starting him or god help us Corcoran, who in my opinion is the least worthy National receiver in the league basically just gives us a 5th guy who really will have no real impact whatsoever and not garner much attention...Now a guy like Banks who has NFL metrics slathered all over him on the outside would garner a big amount of attention and open things up for our top 3 guys....He is not the typical new import who ahs great film and lotsa accolades...he's a victim of his past and NFL moving on from guys who came into draft yr with past issues....and the issues really were nothing anyway. The fact he even up here is shocking to be honest...but a huge get for us. If allowed he could have Chris Mathews rookie vibes all over him but better, as he is already more polished and has a better all around game If we choose to go 3 nationals..Just cause it makes Osh feel all warm and snug in his tighty whites and let a guy like that walk...or any other import who impresses and would benefit from a yr of learning the CFL....then thats just sad Safety too is a position we should go Canadian at..We have the depth there with Kramdi (as to where that where he should be)..Kelly....Hallett in areal pinch and there are some intriguing draft guys this yr who could push to be an immediate backup this yr Drafting smart and drafting guys with good defensive film and NOT just ST ability can set you up nicely with backup depth whop can come in due to injury/rotation and have next to zero drop in abilty...we have soooo gotten away from that with these plugs that we think are so great on teams Plugging in a Korny and or Schmeck in lieu of Lawson due to injury or for rotation to maintain ratio is a serious downgrade and majority of time when we use that...and also had Thomas out there in past yrs were the plays we generally get gouged

Do the Bombers trade up for the 1st overall pick? Our first + the extra pick to move up three spaces in a deep draft? Will this allow us to get at least 3 players that will move the team forward, or do they hold fast, and keep a potential 4th high level pick? Do we have room for 4? Do we lose a player from an area of need if we trade the pick? Do we lose out on Vacarro if we don't - and is that so bad? I'm not sure - as we are not privy to all the information. Looking at our current roster - I would suggest our biggest area of weakness are OL -> reciever -> DL and then DB. OL -> Neufeld (at the tail end of career) - Wallace - Eli - with Vibert and Uwubanwen as backups. Reciever -> Demski - Nield - Clercius - with Cocoran and Cobb as backups. DT -> Lawson - with Schmekel and Kornelson as backups DE -> Bailey (Global) - no backup Safety -> Hallet / Ball / possibly J Smith / Kelly (and we may use an American here to start) LB -> perhaps use Shay and J Smith platooning at one position - Cadawallader and Novak as backups. RB/FB -> Oliveira and Paterson/Chris Ike. QB -> Elgersma will likely be one of the 20/21 Canadians on the opening positional chart other: Sheanhan (global punter), Leroux (long snapper) Have I missed anyone. Should be a fun night, and the global picks Wednesday. My son (12) and I are doing a draft party - and is usually one of the bigger days of the year. Whoever the Bombers pick - it should be fun. I hope they give every pick, as well as all the new players they have already brought in a real chance to compete for the team - need a serious, all-out, no locks training camp this year - let the players win their position. Apologies about the long winded post. If you see me at the games - I am wearing the bomber jersey with LANE on the back, #28. Looking forward to the discussions and arguments on the forum this year! Apologies if I tick you off if I question a post or thought - I will endeavor to do it in a constructive way! B28.

Stewart is absolutely going to ruin the CFL. Tweaks to the schedule and dates are fine. Good idea to try and get more warm weather dates in. Making the regular season far less important will hurt over the long term. It may not be an issue right now, but eventually casual fans learn that they don't need to pay attention until closer to the end of the season. You can already see it with both the NHL and NBA seasons being so long.

So we'll have a season of basically meaningless games... teams treading water leading us into an unnecessary convoluted playoff formula .....All of this to go along with moving the goal posts and whatever else this genius Johnson comes up with...Change for changes sake never goes well

This site is really running slow today. This new playoff format is a complete joke and just awful IMO. The regular season means absolutely nothing anymore, teams will just coast and rest players near the end of the season because unless you are the bottom you are in. As a loyal fan this pushes me into caring much less on what happens during the regular season. Bad idea. This format would only work if they had at least 3 more teams. The only good thing is starting the season earlier.

I don’t mind this and playoffs will certainly be interesting TSNCFL adjusts scheduling, playoff structure set to begin in...The Canadian Football League (CFL) has finalized updates to the season schedule and reached an agreement with the CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA) on a refreshed playoff format beginning in 2027.
  11. Yeah definetly more of a scrambler than a runner, which could translate better to our game in terms of passing if he can make some throws from the pocket. He's actually a lot like young Collaros IMO, but he had a lot better OL in college.

I do not understand the problem that the revised playoff format is attempting to solve. Every year when the playoffs come I'm glad to be rid of the bottom third of the CFL but now two of those three teams will be hanging around. A divisional winner might not even get a bye in the playoffs, if they lose the "showdown" game, and they'll lose their home field advantage in the semifinal round if they lose the showdown game. In the past, winning a division vastly increased a team's odds of going to the final, but now? Seems like the regular season is kind of an afterthought here. I'm not sure why the East always gets the eighth seed in their play-in game while the West gets the seventh seed.
  13. 2 points
I don’t think the cost to move to 1 is anywhere near the same stratosphere as what JBR suggests Not entirely convinced Ottawa would even go OL at 1
  14. 2 points
My worry is that if a team is the drizzling poops (i.e. Ottawa), that teams 3 - 8 will sit guys for long periods of time so that everyone is fresh for this new long play off format. We might have late season games where the B squad is playing 2 - 3 games and the stars will be sitting on the sidelines.
  15. 2 points
Makes it worse, IMO. More teams will be resting guys earlier since it wont really matter if they finish 1st/2nd or 3rd/4th.
  16. 2 points
What's the point of playing 18 games to basically just give playoff rankings? Not sure it solves the problem of teams basically being locked into their seeds by games 15-16.
  17. 2 points
I like the season starting late May. Can't come soon enough after a long winter! Hate that 8/9 teams will make the playoffs now. Like the attempt at eliminating the issues with divisions but not sure I like this wonky playoff format.
  18. yup...we soooo weak in that area its kinda sad. I guess on a plus side of it if we gonna use Kramdi somewhere, and we have the roster where we dont need but 1 Canadian on the defence, then I guess we could sub Lawson out for an import...or use the allotted snaps on a Nationalized American there...aka actually use the rule the other 8 teams take advantage of and if Osh refuses then Walther's and Miller should be giving him a smack upside the smug mug That's why it's key we get 3 National Linemen playing on offence ad not go the 3 National receivers....as we really dont have the players to make that flourish and 1 injury in a game and we may as well go 6 lineman or actually utilize MCI as a TE/Fullback hybrid because that 3rd spot woud be useless really....and until he proves he's not done like dinner ZC needs all the help/talent he can get running routes and having the defence account for everyone out there

The Bengals have 10 OL on their roster at the moment and just drafted 2 more. One of the things Manu had going for him was the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, where he didn't take up a roster spot during the off-season or when he was on the PR but he's now aged out of that. It'll be harder to justify keeping him around given his limited experience.
  20. Probably not. I'd assume Ottawa's pick would require our 1st and 2nd this year plus next years 1st. So that means you're not getting a good receiver out of this draft IMO. The way we are built right now, receiver is way more of a need IMO. And depth in general is a need. Our D will get ugly fast with a couple injuries, imagine if Demski goes down. Vaccaro will be reliable but he's not like a Desjarlais or something.
  21. 2 points
Yeah there's a lot of talk that Manu's on the outside looking in with the Lions, especially after they took an OT with their first rounder this weekend. If it doesn't pan out there, he might catch on with another team but he could find himself up here sooner than most people expected.
  22. Also "those mock drafts were way off".

as would I....I could see him as a guy who could start immediately and if it allows us to go 3 Nationals on Oline with youth like Wallace and Vibert as the backups....both young...and still young Eli ...we are set up nicely....even nicer if Manu strolls into camp next yr too
  24. 2 points
Yeah...hopeful of a good draft...but also prepared to be disappointed too....and hear all the "intangible" reasons as for why we did what we did...almost wish they could lock Osh up in a closet for a day prior and day of draft to be honest

Pavia is such a little weasel, I’m really hopeful he doesn’t come here. Incredibly difficult guy to root for. In other news, sounds like the Bombers met with Vaccaro in person on Saturday. I really do wonder if we’re going to make a move tomorrow to try and move up a few spots.
  26. 2 points
I think his arm looks worse than it is because of his motion. It looks very high effort and slow, then the velocity is just ok out of his hand. When he shortens his throwing motion, or changes his release angle it has the same velocity. Release speed strong impacts the perception of zip. Arm strength will never be his strength, but he has plenty to make the throws. I’ll take that frozen rope touch over a rocket launcher any day. I think the big question for him up here is how well he adjusts to the nuances up here. Timing with the waggle will be a real challenge, not to mention the wide throws.
  27. So the first place team might have to beat the second place team twice to make the Grey Cup?
  28. 1 point
I don't like starting in late May. Too early. You're going to have some lousy training camp weather (see Winnipeg this year). I also don't think you get a lot of fan attention starting May Long. People are focused on other things. No playoff format is a joke. Its as if they hired Stewart with a mandate to make things worse.

I highly doubt this. If the Bombers are clinched and have guys like Zach & Brady with minor injuries. I think the club would sit them and gladly have them at 100% and play a road game over trotting them out and possibly having them miss the play offs. I can also see casual fans just ignoring the regular season and tuning in come play offs since the regular season games at this point matter very little unless you are at the very top. Any time a league has done changes for the sake of "more tv" or "more revenue" it usually comes at the expense of the enjoyment of the fan. I understand the need for the league to make money... but this doesn't usually translate in a better end product. With the rule changes and this terrible play off format, they may as well do US expansion and eventually put a bullet in the CFL and try to merge with whatever UFL / XFL / ZFL league from the States.
  31. 1 point
I like the new playoff format. More football is always welcome. This will immediately give the league more cash which it needs. We complain about the league not doing anything and this is a sure fire way to get more $. Imo it also points to expansion. 1 team not making the playoffs isnt great optics. But I dont think they make this move unless they're expecting another franchise within a decade. It also solves the problem of a 7-11 team hosting a 10-8 team in a playoff game. They've gone from league where 3 teams dont make the playoffs, to 1. That really isnt that big of a deal. 2 home playoff games are possible. Late season games between bottom feeders have some actual meaning now.
  32. 1 point
Imo, if you expect 1 of Vaccaro or Henning to drop to you, or if you fell in love with Gatkuoth/ 1 of the top 2-3 WRs, you stand pat. If you think the guy you really want is gonna go, this is a draft class to trade up. For me, you really want to get one of Vaccaro or Henning. But if you think Manu is gonna drop through the crack, I could see sitting. But those 2 are special in a special draft class at the most premium position. I would trade up for someone with a rookie camp invite; I would not trade up for anyone with guaranteed cash like Konga. I think the best value from this draft might actually be trading down into more picks in the 2nd and 3rd. We already have 4 in the top 24, but the gap between 4th and 13th is where you'd love to add. The 2nd round picks in this draft are going to make or break NI depth around the league for the next few years. Best case scenario, trade the 4th rounder or lower (or future pick) Plus neglist or roster depth for another first. We've got a ton of cfl talent at imp ol, maybe lber or db as well.

Same, I figure it's the foot traffic starting for draft day. Half the fans don't know what time or day the draft is lol. I've fielded a bunch of questions from randos the past couple of weeks, IRL, about the draft and QBs. The regular fans know the season is nearly here, and news/camp will follow. What a sick joke of a playoff format. Stewart is speed running the worst CFL commissioner of all time. Which is no small feat, but he's on pace to accomplish it. I hate so much of what they are going to be doing to the league. The earlier season will be good. Time to stop forcing our schedule around the NFL draft. Kids don't come up here as fast out of NFL cuts anymore. The ones who hold out to the last minute or rookie camp cuts will be in a tough spot, though.
  35. 1 point
Its hard to know how much is headspace and how much is being a 5'9 QB. He sounds to me an awful lot like BLM in the calgary dynasty era. Not some thing Id relish, but not uncommon at all. We really need to hit on a rotational DL in the draft.
  36. 1 point
I know at one point this off season, the Bengals only had 3 OL on their entire roster. I'm assuming that's likely changed, but needless to say I think Manu will get looks for a bit yet.
  37. 1 point
Think we need another receiver, OL and defensive player who can play out of this draft. DB pool in this one is pretty deep. There's a couple high end guys for CFL who aren't getting much NFL attention. There's some LB's too. I think we're really prepared to play 3 import OL so OL in general is less of a need early. Like there's no point in drafting a guy who isn't a player early. Vaccaro is a slam dunk if there's an opportunity. I could see us taking Henning. Not sure Cline has ever been in Canada, not sure Taylor or Reese will ever play up here. So the OL pool gets shallow pretty quick into projects and guys coming off a couple years of severe injuries who maybe would have rated higher otherwise....including Henning although I think he's an interesting guy as a 7th OL potentially as he develops. Most of the rest of the good U Sports guys will be moving inside from tackle, which isn't always easy or immediate. DL crew is kind of similar with NFL guys vs guys who went NCAA but barely played or finally got to play at a low level, low end athleticism, no explosiveness looking ahead to CFL. Charlie Parks is one guy out of Sask who is a major PITA. He will be a good pro, situational, maybe gains 15- 20 pounds and can take reps at 3 spots, special teams. There's a lot of receivers who will be solid CFL players/prospects and in training camp. Would not be shocked if there's a run on them in the first 10-15 picks. Ojutalayo from Laurier is a guy to watch early. Football player, no Jade Etienne bullshit. DeMontagnac, Ulm, Boutin, Meiga will go first couple rounds too. I would not be shocked if our first couple picks are receiver or DB/LB. Ethan Stuart is a guy I could see Walters/MOS loving early.
  38. 1 point
Yeah, pretty heady move to have him on the NL for a while. Sure can, if a guy like this takes the humble pie right look out. I really don't think he's the type of kid to sit around for a year hoping for a tryout or a shot, too. The UFL winding down really plays into our hands with him. Guys who excel at throwing downfield 50/50 balls tend to do well in the CFL. Guys who can use superior placement/touch to turn 50/50 match-ups into 60/40 or better are extremely valuable. I see potential to be a better than guy.

Yeah I mean I hope so. This is a great draft class to restock the lines on in the first 2-3 rounds. Also, I'd love to see us draft a DB who has the potential to run and cover at half/corner etc. Not just a teams guy, but someone who can be a rotational piece. Snafu for the national cfl "media"

O'd be shocked if of those picks we don't go 3 lineman in first 4 picks..be it 2 on D...or 2 on O...The easiest and most likely to make more immediate impacts on the roster via rotation or actually starting...And if we hit the jackpot and get Manu up here..Eli pans out...which I dont doubt he will...Wallace takes that next step and Vibert pushes to be in lineup...We may just find ourselves with a glut of Oline guys again and be in a real good position again like 2019 to 2022...with guys all in prime and relatively young as lineman...and depending on who we get via the draft....a 2027 line with Broxton...Wallace...Eli...Say either Vibert (or a 2026 draft class guy) and Manu would be a real good brawling line who would definitely control the l.o.s like our 2 cup days and be a bonus for the defense with that extra import being able to take unlimited reps on defense... This is gonna be a key draft for us moving onto 2027 and if Smith and Shay also get the chance to step forward and show they belong...which also I doubt they will disappoint....we could really be in a nice spot ratiowise and able to do some interesting things
  41. also sounds a lot like the Riders
  42. As mentioned it's all about health.... If Ceresna and Collaros, in particular, stay healthy... We'll be more than okay. I keep worrying about demski every year, too. Not getting any younger... Hoping he can continue to stay relatively healthy.
