  1. Changes to the depth chart for tomorrow - Demski no longer a game time decision, listed as starting. WINNIPEG-at-EDMONTON_OCTOBER-11.pdf

  2. This is ridiculous. Completely ridiculous. I don't like that we didn't capitalize on our last 3 Grey Cup appearances, but dismissing the fact we got there as meaningless might just be the dumbest thing I've read on this forum in quite some time. There is nothing remotely the same about missing the playoffs and winning your division 3 straight years and advancing to the championship game. My gosh some people here have a sense of entitlement that makes Rider fans look good. The only failure that I'm seeing is a complete lack of cognition and reality by some of the fan base around here. These guys played their asses off for us, show a little bit of class. Saying they were no better than the RedBlacks, or the Craig Dickenson Riders is so far out to lunch I am gobsmacked. You guys are trying so hard to hate right now that I feel sorry for you. I used to ridicule Rider fans for comments like that. Makes me sick that some here are echoing that behavior. Pure hubris and entitlement. The last 5 years has seen a historic run of success for our franchise and some here don't appreciate it at all. I guess these guys missed the 90's and 00', and 10's where we truly were bad. Getting to the Grey Cup is a failure that 7 other teams would have been excited to call their own.

  3. Demski listed as GTD. No Wheatfall. Woods still on. From what I can see, same line up as last week!! I was wrong....they replaced the best cover guy Houston with the often injured Parker...that I don't like. I wasn't a huge fan of the houston signing but he has essentially been lights out since coming on board. Parker was ok in his time before injury but not as good as houston has been. _ _ _ _ _ _ Apparently Houston is dealing with a family matter

  4. When we get to the point that "getting to the Cup is meaningless" then we are truly spoiled beyond belief. All those years in the wilderness just trying to make playoffs... And here we are with (apparently) the expectation that you need to win the cup every single year or you're a failure. Truly heady stuff.

  5. Totally agree. I'm just enjoying the ride. This is supposed to be entertainment, not life or death.

  6. For a GM who made his bones scouring for NI talent, Walters has been slacking off lately.

  7. To borrow from Doug Brown, hopefully after tomorrow Ford and Ford can talk about how awesome it is to be on the same team AND their off season plans.

  8. I get the pun but we’re talking about a guy who passed away tragically young, and by all accounts was a wonderful human being. Seems kind of in poor taste man.

  9. The OL needs to have a good game, they’ll be in tough against a 9 man DL rotation and a pretty good LB corps. Edmonton can be had through the air if Zach gets enough time to operate. Ford is good obviously, but that’s far from an elite secondary.

  10. And round and round and round we go.......

  11. Houston is listed as out. Only explanation for that is he’s still dealing with his family emergency. Nothing else would make sense, he’s been playing very well.

  12. Fair enough. I feel better now. Im not a huge Houston fan but he has been excellent. Hope he gets back in when he's back.

  13. Dumb. The best game from your secondary in forever and you make changes that dont need to be made. Stupid decision but that is nothing new from O'Shea.

Yea, we haven't had a high draft pick in a long time...finishing first in the league kinda does that to you...that and other teams poaching our NI talent...comes with the winning territory.

  16. I apologize but my time as a paramedic and medical social worker has given me a macabre sense of humour shared by many in that field, including cops. It is a way of denying the horrors we saw. BTW: an 81mg aspirin taken once daily, prefereably at night, reduces heart attacks by nearly 50% and colon cancer by over 60%.

yeah but Houston doesn't qualify as a bomber vet as he's only played 2 games for us this year. As far as the depth chart, I think OShea just lists JT as a starter to piss off people on this forum.

  18. Parker is gonna get hurt again anyways. He plays a game then gets hurt. The cycle repeats. Personally I think he’s been terrible even when healthy and I’d be dressing Houston also because past history suggests Parker will be injured again. Plus Houston is just better than Parker. I get they like JP. He stuck around when hurt and immersed himself into learning the playbook and all sorts of other stuff, they like him, it’s a nice story there, overcoming being out a year really but unfortunately he’s not good enough anymore. He’s looked lost when playing. Go back Early season he was not good at all, corners sucked until basically Houston and Lawson jr were brought in. Parker played corner a few games. Wasn’t an upgrade.

  19. If we'd lost those grey cup games by just getting beaten (like last year) that's one thing, but when you lose the previous 2 because you put a suboptimal lineup out there it is much much harder to take.
    2 points
  20. Apparently Houston missed some practices due to a family emergency. He's not even listed on the depth chart so I would assume he's still dealing with that.

  21. 2022 was the blown opportunity. 23, (though we got slightly out coached and trotted out a bunch of injured guys) to me wasn’t an embarrassment. It was a case of the front runners coming up against a team on a late season heater. It happens in sports. I’m over that one. 24 we got outcoached and outplayed in nearly every aspect. Toronto deserved to win that game. Even before Collaros got hurt the Argos were pretty much dominating. 22, and missing out on capping a three-peat in Regina was the unforgivable one where the Bombers were the better team and simply beat themselves with stupid mistakes and bad decisions. A three-peat with 2 cup losses afterward would be much easier to take.

  22. you add pressure...or actual guys on the dline who can do things...and that already good secondry gets even better....gets more turnovers....and has even a lower completion percentage against The use of less than serviceable guys on the dline, regardless of the scheme or mindset is just a personal bias of the coach and serves no benefit. Put legit guys in 2..3 of those spots and play same scheme...exponentially better results and we filed in those yrs due to a lot of the issues whined about....we lost as well in 2022 ...further compounding it...reg season wins...many that glossed over the issues mean jackshit when you dont take hoime the end prizer someone gets it....and wasnt a hard concept to grasp either was it?

  23. Whatever man, just glad I don't share your outlook on things. Success by one's team is a terrible thing to waste.

  24. Hoping Detroit can pull it out. Their lineup is pretty lackluster. I think they had 1 player hit over .260 this year. Not much power in their lineup either. Theyve got Skubal but their pitching as a whole is meh. Not to mention the games in Seattle will be late as hell.

  25. I'd rather see Cobb than Corcoran. Side note, we really need to upgrade our NI receiving depth next year.

  26. I'll always love JJ and Willie for showing the entire league on the biggest stage how much of a joke the MOOL was that year. Stanley got robbed.

  27. Halls' play-off adjustments to the DL were a massive game-changer, ba coming in at S was massive once the secondary settled as well. We had played soo soft before that people were losing their minds. 100%, the game was won in the trenches, and with physicality. Drake Nevis has become maybe the most slept on guy from that 19 win. Early, when he and Stove played together, it was a mauling. Then we switched to more and more cheetah with WJ, JJ, Hansen, and Kongbo and the cats couldn't keep up. Even the 30 cheetah we ran with wj on the nose, flanked by JJ and kongbo was vicious. It's a shame Craig Roh didn't get to dress for that game. He is another slept-on guy who is likely responsible for more of our DL success in that era than most would ever know. He was one of the best minds when it came to DL technique, pass rushing moves, and front play we've seen up here. His camps and books were extraordinary in their quality, he would've been one of the best DL coaches in the era. F%%^ cancer.

  30. What obvious changes would have won any of those games. Show your work. To say add this guy and subtract that guy would have won is not provable in any way. We could have made those "obvious" changes and lost even worse. None of us can say otherwise. To say we definitely win if this guys starts and this guy sits is not fact, it's opinion, and one that couldn't be proven one way or another. In all of those Grey Cups I watched players that were indisputable to be in our lineup make mistakes that gave the other team points and momentum. Maybe we should have sat them too? That's an inconvenient truth in all of this. Last year we lost mainly because our 1st and 2nd string QBs were injured. We had nothing but ham n' eggers left to play or a QB trying to gut it out. Those were our options. Anyone thinking Dolegala comes off the bench to lead us to the Grey Cup against that defence is dreaming in technicolor. We had one shot and one shot only at victory, Zach Collaros being able to gut it out. He couldn't but that doesn't change the fact he was our only option at victory. As was Montreal the year before.....and it doesn't matter who we had rostered, it was always going to be that way. We didn't have the horses. The Montreal game it was a calamity of errors by some of our best players that cost us victory not roster usage. Last year we simply could not compete with them in the trenches no matter who we dressed. 2022, again, our strength was our secondary. ELITE secondary all year that gets completely run over by Chad Kelly. Not roster usage there either. Big time players make big time plays. IF those plays are positive we win.....our best players were the ones that cost us in all 3 of those years. Plays that should have been made were not. For 3 years I have been talking about our talent erosion overall, and guys around here are beaking about how Jake Dolegala or Miles Fox would have won us the Grey Cup? The myopia is strong with this roster usage thing, probably because the drum has been banged so hard on it. Wanna know why we lost the last 3 Grey Cups? Their talent made plays and our didn't....and yea we got whupped in the trenches all 3 years because our talent has eroded on both sides of the ball in the trenches. Those are the REAL facts. Self inflicted wounds? Sure...by the players themselves not manning up when it was time to do so.

  31. I literally think this is true lol. He probably lurks my moniker and giggle's and guffaws when i slobber away at JT’s ‘skill set’. Whatever i can do to help Mr. O’Shea.

  32. Our DL besides Willie didn’t have the chops in that game at all. OL didn’t play well either. Agree there was bad roster management but Toronto was still the more talented team in the trenches imo. It showed in the game we lost to themhere late last season too.

  33. 100% this. Nobody really talks about how good the Bills had to be in order to go to 4 straight Super Bowls - they just talk about the Bills losing those games because at the end of the day, that's what matters.

  34. We do but apparently he hasn't genuflected enough yet.

  35. how was 24 not a blown oppourtunity? The rival team's starting QB broke his leg the game before and they started a scrub. O'shea had horrible roster management and decisions. Again, self-inflicted.

Demerio Houston not starting from what I can see... That's a change from last week. And Woods listed as a starting DT instead of just Lawson and Thomas.

  37. and we went 29....invalid point really in regards to what people are discussing. guess you have never played....the players see it as a failure...not getting to the cip is easier to stomach then getting there...being favored and then slitting your own throat 3x straight from stupidity and stubborn incompetence most players in history will say it's meaningless...sure it nice....losing one maybe from self inflicted errors is easier to absorb...3 in a row....it sticks with guys, and not in a happy oh shucks we got there...yeehaw kinda way Saying losing with stupidity...the same stupidity 3 yrs running being a sucess is prob also one the dumber things said in a forum in some time...bordering on ever

  43. And even that required a bounce up and over off the upright. --> <-- close to a shutout

  44. Has Jake Thomas been cut yet? Has he at least been demoted to 3rd string back up? Until then all whining is permitted.

  47. I am not referring as much to the regular season, as I am to the semi-final in Calgary. After that game, you could see that the Big Blue had a solid chance. Calgary players, BLM included, straight out said it. My reference is mostly to the media / talking heads being unable or unwilling to see it, after that game.

  48. The reasoning for removing 10 yards from the field is dumb as well. Just come out and say the medium-term plan for the league is expanding into other markets, and the current footprint of the field is going to be an issue in moving into markets with existing infrastructure.
    1 point
  49. Oh easy. If you took off jake, and kornys snaps and put in the worst imp DTs we've had the last 2 years you would have significantly better front play, pressure, sacks, hits disruption etc. In the CFL, you don't need to have the highest sack total. But you NEED to cause disruption at least. You don't even need pressures and hits. If you can push the inside of the pocket back onto the lap of the QB within 3-4 seconds consistently, you force the qb to go from about to toss it to having to look down, avoid the disruption, find another spot, reset, look back down field, and try to find a target. OR, they have to try and throw over a mass of humanity (when cfl qbs are pretty short in general) and risk their arm on the follow through. Which still messes with mechanics a lot. In the past, teams that ran 30 fronts understood this. They focused their down linemen on guys who could win a bull rush 1-on-1, or could shoot a gap with a swim move and loop into the pocket. People here would always be stunned when the bend but don't break argos managed to sack our qbs repeatedly in a game. And while it is not the fastest way to rush/pressure/sack, it is one of the hardest to defend and prevent disruption from in the CFL. Because every team is rolling 2-3 NI interior OL (most always 3, you usually see 2 on bad teams), the Canadian OL are much less adept at dealing with nose tackles, pass rushing 3ts, and 4ts. Those guys, often imports, are generally in the 275-300 lbs range but insanely powerful and surprisingly athletic. With diverse rush ability, and the ability to run tite fronts, twist etc that makes the assignment harder to plan for. Sure, if you get the double on the 4t with the tackle, it should be pretty easy. But the other side of that you have a 1on1, or you have a 1on1 with the nose. And the C, is most often filled by guys undersized and who aren't higher end picks. How many Cs in the cfl today could lock up a prime stove 1on1 for most of the game? None imo. For the level of pressure/disruption we get from our OL, we would be as well off taking thomas out and playing 1 less dl in general.
