  1. Not sure what thread this fits in, but the Bombers bringing in the Trews for the Home Opener Half Time Show. Frig I love those guys... Gonna be a hell of a time.

  2. That's awesome. The Trews are solid.

  3. Would be late season if he does. NFL final cuts are week leading up to Labour Day.

  4. I understand loyalty and giving your vets the benefit of the doubt etc... etc... I can understand this with your star players who may need to work out of a slump or coming off injury issues. I can somewhat comprehend guys who have shown flashes. I do not understand the loyalty for the mediocre players who have never shown that they can even come close to being considered an above average or really good player.

  5. He signed a basic 1 yr deal from my understanding....no upfront money....which is essentially a camp invite. He wont make a dime of that until and if he makes the team...which based on his deal and lack of bonus....he's a longshot If he let go...and then is floating around looking/waiting for a PR spot...again he wont be earning anything unless on a PR for a game week. He could realistically be cut quite early, or given all camp to prove himself...then cut....I bet we see him sooner than later into our season

  6. I would think there is a high probability he returns late in the season. His size works against him in the NFL imo. He doesn't flash any kind of outstanding testing numbers and is small. He will get a look based on his resume here, but in the NFL guys his size and speed rarely get any kind of a real look. There is a very real chance he doesn't even make it to camp. If he does, he will need luck on his side to make it past first cuts. Sorry...but 6 foot 175 lbs is very small for the NFL.

  7. YEAH there is that too....as I was alluding to I bet teams...even player would be leary...also....NFL teams would want a say on the field it's played on...inspect/approve of playing surface...etc....If I was a big money player I wouldn't risk it...maybe some fringers might....but even they would be risking a lot Guys train hard and never take breaks now either...hence why you see so many non-contact injuries now...Ligaments and tendons unlike a muscle need time to heal/recoup...they dont grow in size/strength like a muscle does with constant use...much the oppositr...they are what they are and dont change until you obliterate one...or have a surgically repaired one...either by graft from your own body, or a synthetic...They used to do cadaver hosts to fix them at one point, but then was discovered if the host had a genetic issue or history in family of cancer...or other disease it could manifest at some point in the athlete that got the donor ligament/tendon...go figure eh> Thats why u see a ton of NBA injuries too know....no rest ever...fast paced moving...

  8. Agreed. Dude was a pretty good college player also. I think he might make the Jets.

  9. NYJ could be the perfect spot for Pokey, outside of Garrett Wilson they don't have much at receiver. Lots of later draft picks and undrafted players competing for depth spots and maybe even a starting spot. Being only 25 years old I wouldn't be surprised if he got a PR offer at least. He will probably show well at camp and maybe make a big grab or two in the preseason. I wouldn't count on him coming back this season at all.

  10. Yeah I not sure tho how team owners are gonna be toward letting their stars go tho...be interesting to see for sure....and seeing how the b.s thats going on down south is right now....maybe many countries are gonna boycott it anyway unless some serious shift happens

  11. Chris Jones is actually one of the worst for wanting exactly what he wants at certain positions to the detriment of building a good football team, particularly on defense.

  12. I remembered when he was on Hustler and Lawless back in the day. I messaged into the show to see if he would say 'Da Bombers. Sure enough, he obliged. It was awesome to hear.

    Random Jets News

How fun would it have been if we had met the Panthers in the finals this year? Ahh PM you wanted us to win the Cup, remember?

  16. which was my point. We are just going in circles now.

  17. Lord knows the Jets are in no position to cut people too.

  18. NFL has said they will allow players to go. But you may be right. Though I bet a few of the NFL stars might see this as their "dream team" moment. I'm honestly interested to see how Americas roster breaks down. Flag is a very different game. Lamar might be the best option.

  19. I think the risk to get hurt...while not being paid....that you wont see any pro's going....or not many....in either league...and what team would be o.k with their meal ticket going to the olympics and possibly getting a season ender?

  20. Can anyone provide info on Pokey Wilson? Specifically, what kind of contract he signed in the NFL, and whether he can realistically be seen as returning to the BB this season?
    1 point
  21. I agree. The level of athletes that roam the CFL now make it very difficult for guys to jump in and just have immediate success. Of course, there will be a few rookies a year in the league that catch on quick., but at the skill positions it takes time. Last year we had to throw rookies into the mix at receiver due to injuries and it hurt our offence for the first few games. Wilson eventually emerged as a bonafide CFL star, but only after a few rough outings. Some teams may have guys like this, but will groom them if they have that luxury. We would have if Schoen and Lawler weren't out early last year.

  22. I think some of us have forgotten there’s been a shift in the kind of talent that comes up here. Plug and play is the exception, not the rule. Some of these guys need time to develop. I don’t love Case or Mitchell either but their presence last year isn’t a mark against them

    Restaurant/food thread

We checked out Watt Bistro Pho (the newish location on Plessis and Regent) the other day and tried the vermicelli pork + spring rolls and also the Pho. Both were large in size and fresh and had a lot of flavour. We will be going back since Phuong Nam (our regular spot) is a bit of a drive and this is much closer. I believe they also do bubble tea. I'd recommend for those in the area.

    Restaurant/food thread

What are you talking about? In that immediate area the only fast food burger places they have are: McDonalds, Burger King, Nuburger, Fatburger, Burger Factory, Wayback Burger, Georges, A&W, Sals, Five Guys, and I'm probably missing a few more... My kids enjoyed the frozen custard at Culvers in the States, though they could barely tell the difference between eating that and getting soft ice cream anywhere else. I don't think it's enough of a differentiator that will make it stand out. The location also isn't the greatest, the few times that I've gone to Firehouse subs, the Boutans and Mucho Burrito which are next door have been completely dead.

  25. At this point Wilson is one minor injury away from me wanting to cut him loose and try someone else who isn't falling apart. I'm less concerned about safety/corner since we have seemed to have done a good job over the last 5+ years of finding guys who can jump in and play well right away.

  26. Yeah he was particularly good at destroying a teams cohesiveness and robbing from Peter to pay Paul and sacrificing a total team
    1 point
  27. Yeah...I didnt see it as a criticism..kinda lumped my retort all in one...but he did look to bring in "athletes" and "was" successful at it...his second run here he was on glue I think...flopped bigtime

  28. And can you say without question he doesn't? Totally wrong...try again...moreso Murphy...Mathews...Riley...Bouno.. Vets prob more than anyone need it Sadly u missed the boat...but also...yes coaches should too...u are correct there...1980's Mack brought in a ton of talent to the cfl btw...and yup...coaches did get best out of them...your point is again? Moreso Bouno didnt wanna pay...plus Harris wanted to go home...was lose lose situ for Bouno True competition is not done here...particularly after 2nd grey cup...and what had happened since...cup losses due to basically...weakened ..old...oft injured roster...and poor coaching decisions...that's about as black and white as it gets. 3 games...3 losses to major under dogs...not an abberation...a trend now...or is it a serious flaws on how we do business on the field? When vets are complacent and comfortable knowing they safe....well Look at T.O ...2 cups in 3 yrs...handling us with ease basically in both with guys...numerous guys on their roster who wouldn't make the litmus test here in "kind of player" we feel is best...explain that one? Mtl too beat us with a me first whiny QB...a former hot head nut HC...HC evolved...changed how he did things...made several me first guys buy in...Beat us....1 loss in 3 of those could be construed as a blip..anomaly...one off...3 straight for much the same reasons...that's a issue teetering on a problem

  29. Fair, great vision thank you love me some MOS but much more complex in terms of how that vision translates into behaviours, actions, decisions, reality. To defend @Booch at bit here, whom btw I don't agree on everything he posts here (love you brother), I don't think he has ever said drop players as soon as better talent arrives on the scene, not caring about creating order, discipline, continuity, or peaceful camaraderie. You present this in an very extreme black and white manner. There's lots of grey here and room for varying interpretation in how said vision is achieve. In fact, I don't think many of us here on Morning Big Blue think like this extreme or, as you say, emulate wanting Chris Jones way of doing business here in Bomberland. I know you and some others get tired of hearing names like Jake Thomas come up over and over again but as long as decisions are being made to keep putting players like him (I love what JT has done for us) on the field, reality tells us it is not to the betterment of the team and does not correlate well with certain parts of said vision.

  31. Case is not a rookie and showed little last year. As a sophomore, he ought to be well ahead of anyone else competing for the job, or he is not a keeper.

  32. The Stamps had 3 new kick returners in the game yesterday who looked deadly dangerous, Horton, Vaughn and Choquette, all small stature speedsters who might not make it as receivers, but they could make their mark in the CFL as returners if nothing else. They can't keep them all, grab one upon release and stash him on the PR to backup Logan who is frequently enough injured.
    1 point
  33. You have to have a returner that occasionally flips the field for you. PRing for an average 7.3 ypr is all nice and fine but I'll take 6 returns of 0 with a 7th of 50 yards over 7 of 7.3.

  34. I'm not ready to rule out Case entirely just yet....he showed a couple small flashes, he has what many, many players never get an extended look and opportunity....not anointing him the next great returner, but after a year on and off the roster last year to develop and learn the nuances and an offseason he now has the opportunity to prove he took it all in and has the ability and mindset to show he grew and improved and can do the job....many guys never get that shot, he is one of the lucky few, maybe he takes this opportunity and shines.....

  35. I do agree, it is a real small sample so far though. I look forward to seeing him in pre season. Tbh sheahan looks better when he isn’t being rushed at game speed too. I’m very optimistic, this could be our best global draft yet.

  36. Dude - in another couple years they'll have the perfect scheme for Sheehan's putting.
    1 point
  37. Qft. likely has to be able to out angle sheahan and have the depth control to optimize for shorter punts. From the bit I’ve seen it’d be an easy decision based on the frequent shanks we saw last year. At the same time, with the incredible talent in Evans leg combined with having just turned 24 and just strived up here, he should at worst be guaranteed a pr spot for a while.

  38. The new punter can put it high and far. Decent sideline accuracy as well. But his hang time is what caught my attention.

  40. Went to practice this morning. Nothing ground breaking to report. Thought the running back 36, smaller American guy looked solid. Really effective blocker in the one on ones. Imo play of the day was made by Corcorcan(can't remember how to spell his name, but the wr they drafted this year). He is slow...there's no doubt about it. But he went up and made a great play on an under thrown ball that should have been intercepted. Schoen looked like himself out there. No brace on. No lack of speed etc. Routes were as sharp as ever. Talked to him after the practice and he said he was feeling great and anxious to get back out there. He was great with my son too. Talked to him a bit and gave an autograph. Sergio is the man...he came right up to my boy (who was wearing his schoen jersey) and talked a bit, then said he'd introduce him to Schoen after practice. Which he did. Needless to say, we had a great morning!

  41. Bombers sign Kevin pointer out of wake forest. (Vegas rookie camp this year) 6’1 285lbs dt. He’s a fast for his size, very high motor 3 tech who is a tackling machine. Not a nose or a big pass rusher though he projects much better as a pass rusher here than down south.
