Carbon Tax isn't just about getting more tax dollars in the coffers, it's also about encouraging new (better?) habits like buying locally sourced materials and products, paying more for craftsmanship that lasts rather than relying on cheap/disposable crap (whether that's clothing, furniture, electronics, vehicles, construction, whatever...) There is a human cost involved in having same-day delivery, $1.79 cheeseburgers, and a new cell phone every 2 years. There are plenty of social issues that could be helped with the money a carbon tax would collect. I can't wrap my brain around those numbers. Until we had environmental levies and carbon taxes, coal was the cheapest energy source, especially when you needed large amounts of heat, such as for mass livestock operations. Any other energy source was not even close, even with freight included.

We don't know that they won't give them money. They said last time to come back with a plan. I expect the Feds to find some money for them but they need to have a plan. That should be much easier this year.

I am bewildered as to how and why the Libs would not give money to the CFL. 1. They are asking for a loan not a handout, and not a particularly big one by federal money standards 2. The CFL is huge in western Canada, and is well liked in Ontario and Quebec so Liberal support of it could not possibly hurt them in an area they have to be desperate to try get some support in to form a majority. No chance the Cons even criticize such a move by the Liberals because their Western base would not like that. 3, The Liberals love to throw cash around, I am sure they have a 40 million dollar itch somewhere in their magic unlimited spending well that they so often rely on. 4. The Liberals want an election. No chance a Canadian institution dies just prior to them pulling the trigger on one. I fully expect that the Feds will be helping the CFL this season. It just does not make sense for them politically not to do it.

I dont agree that they wouldve made it. They had 2 massive losses in attendance and tv views before covid hit. The XFL 2.0 had vince take a huge gamble based on doubling the 2nd tv deal. With a continual downward trend in drawing power that wouldnt have happened. I think that is the best case scenario. If we got say 2 weeks of inter league play, a big multi league all star game, and a 2nd grand championship game that'd be a win for every one involved. Not to mention the potential of interleague trades and such.

I've been saying for awhile that we're going to see a sort of boom similar to post-WW2, where people want to go out and do stuff and spend money. I think it'll be a bit of an over-correct for awhile, but it'll certainly help the economy rebound...

So, while I agree with most of what's been said recently in this thread, I wanted to just say that I think there'll still be a level of interest in regional rivalries. So regardless of what rules, and the ratio and all of that......it'd still be Winnipeg playing Regina playing Calgary playing Edmonton........so there will always be a passion for the "local sports team", regardless of all the extraneous stuff. That's something that I've thought long and hard about this week. The thing that makes the CFL special to me, is it's my home province playing against other provinces and that's probably what I cheer for the most. And nothing, regardless of rule changes or whatever, is going to change in that regard. They're not taking away the Bombers.
