Honestly why are we wasting time debating this stupid chant.  You don't have to like it. And there are people that will chant it. Just move on with your lives. 

Let us focus on watching the Bombers game and enjoy meaningful discussion of how they absolutely obliterated the Hillbillies. For 3 years we've been dominant. This dynasty isn't going to last forever and let's just revel in it.

Honestly, why are we wasting time on complaining about a debate on this stupid chant that doesn't belong at a Bomber game?  If you don't like it, just move on with your life.

Fun fact:  the Jets are named after an NFL team, which makes the chant at Bomber games even stupider.

wrong.....the Jets name came from a Pegger, previous owner Benny Hatskins, (cardboard box millionaire) who started the WHA team back in the good ol days.....He quickly signed Bobby Hull to a million dollar contract...unheard of in those days....I always thought Benny and the Jets was a Elton John song that gave rise to the name...Could be Benny was a big Elton fan...Then again Bobby Hull was known as the Golden Jet.....another option for the team name...Only Benny knows for sure

Yep - every story I've ever read was that they were named the Jets because Hatskin was a huge NFL Jets fan..... unfortunate, but true. Eff the NFL.

Ultimately if you are buying a ticket you can yell (almost) anything you want.

Doesn’t make it correct. Notice that almost all people do not yell it at Bomber games? Compared to almost everyone at Jets games? 
 

Anyway, on to Hamilton or slagging the mud puddle that is the franchise from the rectangle

Plus, if you killed this thread, you wouldn't know that Ben Hatskin played for the Bombers between 1936 and 1941, winning the Grey Cup in 39 & 41.

Given that the WHA team was founded and named in 1972 and the song was written in 1973 and released in 1974, it’s safe to say the team was NOT named after the song. Hatskin has been quoted as saying the NY Jets were a rebel team (from the AFL) with a rebel QB (Namath) who took on the big boys and won, and he like that and wanted his WHA team to have the same swagger and image. Hence the name.

How does the Jets name origins make a chant "stupider". That makes no sense. You wanna tie a nice bow around it and label this chant as some kind of implicit support of millionaire elitism and that is just a wild stretch of logic imo. It's fans having fun and seeing how loud they can be. You are way overthinking this.

I will take an arena/stadium getting involved right from the singing of the national anthem over the crickets that are heard at Argo/Stamps/Lions etc games. Half the NFL/NHL arenas and stadiums are so sterile and the fans just there as a matter of status. Winnipeg rocks their buildings. Keep it up Peg City.

Then why was Elton wearing a Big B' on his shirt when he was on tour....Look up the connection to Benny and the Jets in Hatskins bio.....it's all there....You could be right about the timeline ....still the connection is there....AND who gives a fiddlers fart about the NY Jets.....not our league.. In any event there are far more pressing things in the world than 'what's in a name'.....AND GoBigBlue /GoJets....
