2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

Rick Moffat twitter feed: 'Asked one of #Claybrooks’ players if Coach had a mantra or fave saying he preached: #FIFO. Fit in or ____off. He’ll won’t be unemployed for long'.

DC's mantra doesn't fit with everything in life but I think it's an appropriate saying in football for the most part. :-)

I met Ed Hervey some years back when my son was playing peewee, nice guy, knows football but at some point he is going to run out of mulligans.

pretty sure Jon Ryan is not the best punter.... NFL cred impressing people

Oh for CRyan out loud.
There’s way more to punting than just hoofing the ball. And Ryan is a hoofer. No way he works as hard at his craft than Medlock, who’s always trying something innovative and very much succeeding at doing it.
It’s hard to argue a lot of the choices..such as linemen, but it shouldn’t be hard to recognize a master like Medlock.

Voters made a mistake on this one.

The only thing I can think of is that voters were split, voting Medlock for kicker or punter but not both. Regardless, he didn't deserve the kicking, IMO, but definitely deserved the punting.

So AH33 gets a division All Star Nod but gets shunned on MOP.

I don’t agree with this at all. This is twice now we’ve seen two coaches be used as fall guys for incompetent roster building from their fellow GM’s.

But have fun with.... Jason Maas? Next season!

Dare to dream...

Khari Jones as HC / OC

Devone Claybrooks as DC / Asst HC

I can't believe the extent that people have fallen in love with a 10-8 HC and a mediocre journeyman OC.

Yeah, I get he was great when he played here.

If O'Shea leaves, I'd take Khari as HC, but I wouldn't want him running the offense. His work to date as an OC has been mediocre at best.

The best case scenario is Osh wants to stay and signs another contract and changes up both OC and DC. Don't really care who (either from within - fine - or quality guys from outside...) but have to change up the two main coordinators... Boudreau as STC can definitely stay.

HC openings in both Ottawa and BC, I'm pulling for Lapo, only because he deserves a HC gig :)

Don't forget Edmonton (although unofficially at this point). Dead man walking.

I predict O'Shea stays in Winnipeg and promotes Glen Young to DC

OC I'm less sure about

Buck

No way he does not coach next year or the next.

That's his choice but why not stick it to a known tight wad like Braley?? It would drive him crazy to have to pay Claybrooks & another head coach's salaries for 2 more years.

Someone on here posted that Claybrooks would have NFL interest as a DL coach... That might interest him too.

It’s just one year.

Nope. Signed a 3 year deal so he has 2 left. **** Old man Braley. A man who loved every sewer hole cover he met.

Promoting Buck just seems like same old same old.

What concerns me is that he sort of interned under LaPolice, and O'Shea who have not been ideal mentors.

Osh is the perfect mentor for someone who wants to be HC. I'm hoping Buck can take the best of Lapo (and to be fair there's good in Lapo the OC) and add some balls. Some aggressiveness. Then we'd really have something...

A run first offense is an 80's style attack. I don't want more of the same with Buck that we had with LaPo. I want an offense that stretches defenses downfield & can score from anywhere on the field. I'd rather have Harris run for a thousand yards,  a qb who throws for 4,000 yards & have at least 2 receivers with a thousand yards each.

The argument being that we don't have a QB for that.
