2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

I think he’s better then Davis so I’m not too sure it is good news

Not sure if he's better, but he certainly can be explosive.

Maybe....maybe not.

My concern is threefold.

1. A change at QB can be a spark for the team, so if they had some doubts creeping in about Davis on the team, an early start by the Bombers and it could turn into another Argo blowout. But with Jennings, the team may have more patience and rally rather than folding up the tents.

2. A new QB means we have no game film on him this year to see how he fits into their offence, so tougher to predict his tendencies and game plan for them. Have seen this countless times, when a new QB comes in and lights it up early before game film on them leads to a more solid defensive game plan that brings them back to earth (Fajardo, Adams Jr., Dinwiddie for us a few years back, Rocky Butler, etc. Even Arbuckle.)

3. Although Davis can be a scrambler, the only game he really relied on his legs a lot was the Calgary upset. And his INT numbers have shown what happens when he relies on his arm as a pocket passer. Jennings has never been afraid to use the QB sneak as a weapon, and may be harder to defend against as a result, especially if he is not yet comfortable with the pass offence in Ottawa and decides to ad lib his way through the game.

Bombers' run D is exceptional so far, but they have not faced a true scrambling QB yet, so hopefully it won't throw them off. Having Bighill back as a spy on the QB would be a great benefit.

Honestly, does it matter? Neither he nor Davis is very good, and the Bombers D *should* be able to handle either without much trouble...

Is he really though?  He did get beaten out by Davis for the #1 spot in training camp.

Jennings has not looked that great the last couple times he played the Bombers.

because he's not a very good QB.....he an DD are extremely similar players, IMO. The only concern is if the RBs get some kinda "Dead Cat Bounce" from this...

Nope, doesnt matter which one they start.

Jennings gives Ottawa more potential boom......or bust.

I mean in the sense that as bad as Davis is at protecting the ball, Jennings is markedly worse. Lots of opportunities for turnovers.

That's your opinion but do you have proof? I don't know one way or the other since there has been nothing in any of the reports that this was happening during Reed's first year in Montreal.

Jacquie, this is a fan forum website where we give our opinions & take part in discussions.  This is not the Winnipeg Free Press & you're not Bill Bradlee so [please stop demanding things you know none of us can provide. Tell you what, if you want proof then why don't you do some journalistic digging yourself & come up with the facts.

Jennings over the course of a season isn't very good as he has shown that he can't string a series of good games together but in a one game scenario he could get hot.

Hey....... can I borrow this line from you sometime if I need to........🤣

The Blue have been great at containing QBs this season so this will be interesting to see how Jennings handles throwing from the pocket.

Not wearing enough medals....

Ya Jennings.. But Pruneau and Rose are out long term so... That D just took a big hit. Jennings has a 1 million dollar arm and 1 cent brain.

He’s Reilly-lite.
