2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

Both Walters and O'shea took a lot of grooming and learning to be where they are today.

Thank god the organization stuck with the management in place.

CFL management is an absolute gong show league wide this year and it's showing on the on-field product

Anyone catch Chamblin's remark about Ian Wild making lots of good plays but also lots of bad plays?  He's learned nothing from his years in Sask.

About Kavis, he's an american is he not? If he's been misusing company funds, is that not grounds for his work visa to be terminated?

Only if someone were pushing for it, otherwise such a detail would likely be ignored or missed by immigration.

Wade Miller taking the reins of the Bombers was really a blessing.  The guy knows how to run a business, and is running the Bombers like a business.

He was definitely sticking his neck out there by committing to Oshea/Walters long term given their relative lack of experience.

This has to be a new owner move. Can't see it any other way.

This has to be malfeasance on behalf of Kavis.  Can't see it any other way.

Was the only way to break the ole 2 year cycle..... wash, rinse, repeat.   Other clubs are now stuck on it

1290 radio reported this morning that Reed was fired for all of the above reasons but the catalyst was reports from the community about Reed's personal conduct in public. That seems to have started the avalanche.

In Saskabush, that would a positive asset for their sisters.

Hervey grasping at straws... Desperate times on the Left Coast.

I look forward to witnessing live and in person as Lankford watches more Medlock punts land in front of him on August 15th.

It is one of life's mysteries that a good guy like Langford has been given a bit of talent and tries hard but not quite making it, while an idiot like Duron Carter has been blessed with mega-talent but no appreciation of what he has. Sounds like the plot of "Amadeus".

If Amadeus was a spoiled entitled pot-head.

The league was probably looking at Carter as an attention-getting ploy, but his act has worn thin and when he disappears to become a trivia question, no one will grieve. Except maybe his mom who will have to take him back in, but maybe she has already changed the locks.

In the next few weeks we could well see the Als pass the .500 mark. When was the last time that happened?

Turns out Mike Sherman wasn’t trying to get the headset off last year after all...he was looking for some envelopes..

I would bet cap circumvention has been happening in Montreal since forever.

No wonder wettenhall was losing money hand over fist.  Maybe the als really are profitable. 🤑🤑

If any of this is true, should we be seeing some high profile releases in Montreal in the coming days to get them under the cap? "Consequences" and all that.

Well stats fascinate me, so here we go:

Last time above .500: Technically, the last time they were above .500 was when they opened 2016 with a 1-0 record...
Before that though...you have to go back to 2014, when they managed to get to 9-8 in week 19. They would finish 9-9 (.500) on the year.

Last winning streak: Weeks 18-20 of the 2016 season. The games were pretty much meaningless though, as before the streak they were 4-11. For the last meaningful winning streak, you have to go back to 2014 when they strung together 6 wins to dig themselves out hole of 3-8 back up to a more respectable 9-8.

Last season above .500: 2012. This was also Calvillo's last full year as starting QB, he would play in 2013, but would not finish the season with them.
