Bombers Training Camp 2017 - May 28

RHÉANNE M.

WINNIPEG, MB., May 11, 2017 –  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has invited Winnipeg Rifles wide receivers Xander Tachinski (#73) and Brendan Naujoks (#74), running back Michael Ritchott (#76), and defensive back Andrew Ricard (#77) to take part in the club’s three-day rookie camp commencing Wednesday, May 24. The players will continue with the team through the first part of the main training camp.

Tachinski and Ritchott attended part of last season’s rookie camp, and most recently played in their third and fourth years with the Rifles, respectively. Naujoks and Ricard have both spent three seasons with the Rifles.

“The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have continued to try to invest in the growth of younger football players within Manitoba,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “This will be a great experience for all of them to be on the field with professional players, and to continue to grow as athletes.”

Quarterbacks and CFL newcomers will report to Winnipeg and will be on the field for the opening of rookie camp on Wednesday, May 24th. Veterans report on May 26th and will begin practicing on May 28th.

The Blue Bombers will play two pre-season games:  June 10th at Mosaic Stadium in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and June 15th at Investors Group Field against the Edmonton Eskimos.

If I'm not mistaken... I believe Murphy was directly connected to the Pacman Jones debacle...

And it was Murphy's friend that was caught diagramming Hamilton's plays in the "it's been handled internally" debacle.

I'm changing mine since we added some guys. I really like the sounds of this Jovan Santos-Knox fella. And who knows, maybe we add a contender this morning.

Will be interested to see if receiver T.J. Thorpe can put together a good camp. I noticed Ed Tait named him as one to watch. Also, anyone know if Gerrard Sheppard is eligible for the rookie camp? Is there a rookie camp roster out there somewhere?

Players who played 7 or less games last year are eligible. Roster comes out this morning.

Walters made it clear that the Bombers will need to start some rookies this year just because of the salary cap.

“With the escalating salaries of guys, teams across the league are going to have to pencil in a certain price point when you are doing your salary cap projection at certain positions,” Walters said. “It is what it is and every team goes through it, pencilling in what you think a price point is for that position.

FIVE TO WATCH - Ed Tait

    •    94 Jackson Jeffcoat, DE: He popped in for a quick workout during mini-camp in April – he was the lone lineman attending – and the Bombers staff is impressed with the former Texas star’s quickness. An All-American with the Longhorns, he is the son of former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Jim Jeffcoat.

    •    47 Roc Carmichael, DB: It’s a nightmare for new defensive backs to be asked to cover receivers on the wide Canadian field AND get used to the ‘Waggle’ – receivers in motion pre-snap – but Carmichael gobbled it up and stood out at mini-camp. He could get snaps at defensive halfback and the dime/strong-side linebacker spot owned by Maurice Leggett.

    •    65 Dominick Jackson, OL: He’s a human-eclipse of a man at 6-6, 315 and started 14 games as a senior at Alabama while being named second-team All-SEC in 2015 before stints with Washington and Detroit.

    •    14 T.J. Thorpe, SB/WR/KR: Another of the rookie camp standouts, Thorpe got good size at 6-0, 200 to play slot, the speed to play outside and kick-return skills. That’s the kind of talent toolbox every coach covets.

    •    6 Dom Davis, QB: He’s hardly a newcomer, but he is fighting with veteran Dan LeFevour to lock down the No. 2 spot behind starter Matt Nichols. And given those stakes, reps in rookie camp will mean just as much as the work in main camp come this weekend.

Darrin Bauming -

A couple more player additions are expected for the #Bombers as they round out their camp roster. Day 1 of rookie camp goes today at 3pm.

Darrin Cameron -

Medicals morning for all our rookies. @Faith_Joseph meeting with Dr. Craton in one of eight stations before hitting the field today at 3pm.

Not considering the team he had to work with...  miraculous would have been having a better record...

You're not wrong, but your post swims in an ocean of irony coming from you. After all, you were the one dancing around the maypole on the corner of Sunshine and Lollipop Lane two years ago singing at the top of your lungs how great and misunderstood our team was at the time.

Hindsight is 20/20 for all of us, but it shouldn't be for you because you have constantly told us there would never be any need for it from you.
