Around The League Off Season Discussion

Well that loss stung last night. Not happy with the decision to kick the FG but that can be discussed elsewhere :) All in all there was a lot of improvement this year over last year and looking like they are trending upwards. If Walters can pull off another great draft and some more key FAs this offseason I like our chances going into 2017. Who is on the FA watch list and what areas are we in desperate need of fixing?

The Bombers really need to kick the Riders ass sideways in their first game in the new park to set the tone for the season and send their fans off on the crazy train.  Nothing else matters.

  • Riders haven't lost yet so their fans feel emboldened to venture out of their own little bubble. Won't have to wait long for them to scurry back into their holes.

Can you explain how any of that suggests that Richards is anything other than a failure at this point in his CFL career?

Someone has to explain to you why having not had a much of a chance to demonstrate his abilities isn't the same as being a failure at it?

Why bother?  Your constant use of that word says far more about you than it does him.

Nope - he's not eligible to be drafted until 2018 - see the CFL press release.

EDIT

Considering Quinn Smith was draft-eligible I'm not sure why this would be treated differently.

Because of the overreaction in the aftermath.  Should just suspend him and let teams decide if they want him with the 4 games looming.

In the strictest sense, CFL teams aren't allowed to sign players serving an NFL suspension.  I don't think that rule has any subsections that pertain to the CFL draft.  So in my simple mind, being able to draft him but not sign him makes sense with the existing rules.

Of course, just giving him a normal suspension makes far more sense than that option, but trust the CFL to go with "none of the above".

Edit - I see they added this draft eligibility rule a year ago.  That's fine then, I thought they were once again making up policy as they go.

Wondering if we have a shot at Steele and or Miles? Wondering if Miles is better than some of the other NI lbers we currently have too.

We should've let Hurl walk then we'd have the cap space to sign Miles.

That rule is legitimately crazy.  The likelihood of Simonise serving that NFL suspension is low.  Would that mean he'd never be eligible to play in he CFL since he can't be signed while under NFL suspension?  Man this league is a mess on the PED issue.

Thank the Argos & Ricky Williams for that. The NFL wasn't happy & they let our league know it. #dontpokethebear

Okay, now release Hurl and sign Steele.

What if we can sign Steele without releasing Hurl?

Hurl's value is....debatable and probably not worth the premium he is getting to have been the starting MLB. If it comes down to either Steele or Hurl, I know which way I'm voting.

Bombers has expressed interest in Steele which means to me they have $$$ for him.

Let's hope he appeals and becomes eligible for the supplemental draft instead...!

you know that Hurl signed a new deal and likely isn't getting that same premium anymore right?

Yup, but I would bet he is still getting paid a premium that could be better used to sign Steele.

because it fits your narrative? Doesn't it make more sense that he signed at a back up special teamer rate?

Two guys, neither of whom know the details are arguing over how much Hurl is making? Welcome to the offseason.

Anyone else wanna step up on this one...

So before the current drug policy was introduced people were bitching and complaining about the lack of one and now when someone is penalized under it people are bitching and complaining about it. SMH  And no, it doesn't surprise me.

I think it's good they finally have a drug policy but disagree on how it's being implemented. Funny how nuance works.

Eyes wide open, teams should still be able to draft Simonise but he shouldn't be able to play until a four game suspension has been served.

EDIT: I'm not sure how a four game NFL suspension equates to an 18-game plus playoffs in the CFL?
