Before you super tolerant heros take up your pitchforks and run everyone from Morris out of the province, maybe take time to hear both sides of the story: http://townofmorris.ca/an-open-letter-to-gordon-sinclair-winnipeg-free-press/

Shockingly, sometimes the media paints a pretty biased and even - gasp - dishonest story.

Not excited about the move but Walters deserves a chance & I intend to give it to him. Like 17 says, I don't believe this new team running the Bombers will get much of a honeymoon from the fans next season as winning is so imperative. Can't afford to get off to something like a 1-6 start, for example. Fans will be watching closely as far as to who Walters signs as the new HC & then  how aggressively we pursue someone like Zack Collaros & other CFL free agents as well. This off season will be so defining as a football organization to win the confidence of the fanbase back.

This whole line of discussion is absolutely ridiculous. Outside of a teams top players the bulk of the imports in the CFL are largely all interchangable pieces and the difference between every single team is comes down to 2 factors, coaching and quarterbacking. You get those two things and a team can go from **** to champions, isn't that right buddy?

They called themselves Swaggerville in '10 as well, and had minimal roster turnover the next year. With Reed they were average at best. Burke made them great in 2011.

When we hired Tim Burke as our DC I saw it as an enormous coup for the team, considering that he was arguably the best DC in the league and had a wealth of previous coordinator experience. But it was LaPo who hired him, and if LaPo didn't think that Burke suited the team for whatever reason then LaPo wouldn't have hired him - best DC in the league or not. The point is that a Head Coach should have the freedom to choose his own staff, not have staff assigned to him no matter their credentials. My two pennies.

Edit: I should add that if the new HC actually wants Burke around as DC I'd be thrilled to keep him on.

Why WHY do we have to put up with Rod Black??? He was saying Steff Logan & Wess Dressler all game. He made all kinds of stupid & goofy comments. To me, he was the most annoying I've ever heard. Gawd the man is brutal!!

here's hoping a week Monday the front page of the sports section bears the headline "Argos lick the *******".

MOBomberFan reacted to Logan007 in What should we do with Goltz
I think that had to do with Burke saying Goltz was named starter and then 1 or 2 games later they change their minds.  That's why he was so pissed at them.

And I wouldn't put Elliott and Goltz in the same boat.  Goltz may be great short yardage, but he's not close to being as good as Elliott.  Not that it matters any more.

The total ineptitude of this organization.... to find and develop young QB's continues, it seems forever.......we finished investing 3-4 years on Elliott, Brink and Goltz....and currently end up with Boltus....

    Gawd...

That said, playing Boltus in short yardage/red zone situations.....is yet another clear reason to dump the HC/OC, moving forward....

    Ok, so Miller's quote is:

Miller:  Kyle's in charge of running the football operations, and working in that.  And this is a change that this organization is going through where we actually work together, and proper people are making the right decisions, now, in charge of players who's playing each week.  And we're getting to that process of getting the roles defined where we can all work together.

Media: Will you have some input on that...who's playing each week?

Miller:  Absolutely not.  Not my role.

    Media: Coaching staff?

Miller: that's for the head coach and Kyle to decide.

This team needs to stop taking flyers on a head coach. Dickenson is by far the most qualified man and this organization needs to be sending a blank cheque to Calgary the instant their season comes to an end.

As far as Reed for DC goes....obviously many people forget how many big plays our defence gave up in 2010 when he had the job. A big no thanks!

That's what I was thinking myself.  Miller's quotes didn't sound like he was totally behind Walters starting even though Lawless was fluffing Walters cushions.  Lawless reminds me of a guy that just wants people to fail so that he can bash them at a later date.

Hall is doing fine. How anyone can complain about the way he is playing? He's making less & less mistakes as well as learning the CFL game & adapting to it. Look at how Max has progressed with far less tools on offense than Thomas DeMarco has in BC. Is  he a long term starter for the Bombers? Can't say but give the guy props especially for the last 2 games. Saying Hall is dreadful isn't anywhere close to being correct. If Brandon thinks Hall is dreadful then I can describe Justin Goltz as being absolutely abysmal as a starting qb.

We finished 4-3 on the back of some decent quarterback play from Joey Elliot, whom we then released and went back to Buck Pierce (who appears to be no longer able to play football at a high level).

I'm not saying Elliot is a saviour, but if we had started the year with him as our starter I don't think we would be eliminated from the playoffs yet.

I have heard many complaints about Max Hall's arm, his throwing strength. While his errant passes do seem to typically sail away too high (how many does he throw in the dirt?), I really like the way he throws:

"And that's this -- the 466 yards of net offence registered on Saturday by the much-maligned Bombers offence was the most by any team in the CFL over the weekend.... their combined 775 yards of offence over the last two weeks -- they had 309 yards in a win over Montreal two weeks ago -- is second best in the CFL during that period, behind only Calgary's 785 yards....then there's been the much-improved Bombers receiving corps in recent weeks. Clarence Denmark has played his best football in his three seasons in Winnipeg during the past five weeks, hauling down an eye-popping 28 catches for 410 yards during that period. Aaron Kelly, rescued from the CFL scrap heap after he was released by Hamilton, has looked great in a Bombers uniform and is definitely a keeper. And so too is former NFLer Mike Sims-Walker, who replaced an injured Kelly versus Toronto and did nothing less than lead the team with eight catches for 137 yards in his first CFL start."

Yes, we need another starting QB but I don't see us as desperate at QB as a few weeks sago.

That's an interesting question from an evaluation point of view.  What can you look at when determining if a person will be a good GM?

    1.  Past experience - This is, of course, the easiest thing to look at and also the most surefire way to know what you're getting.  Have they done the job before, and did they do it well?
    2.  AGM experience - Failing to have actual experience, you have to move on to their body of work in other areas, as an assistant or director of player personnel.  I think this is the most alluring part about John Murphy.  He brought in pretty good talent in his short time here and he has always brought in solid talent for Calgary. That doesn't mean he can manage a team, but bringing in quality players is a big part of the puzzle.
    3.  League associations - How in tune is he with the league?  How long has he been around?  Has he worked in a successful organization?   You talk about all the great things Hufnagel does for the Stamps, well, can we infer that Murphy has learned something from that?  He certainly has connections to good coaches like Dave Dickenson and Rick Campbell... could we use that to our advantage?
    4.  References - This may be a little superficial because it's rare that a football executive will get trashed publicly, but sometimes we can learn from what other people say about them.  In Murphy's case, I've never heard a bad word spoken about him, even from his time working with Mike Kelly.  This could be a plus.

I think there's a lot to like about Murphy, but it's true he is still an unknown.  He is the kind of guy you would need to surround with experienced people so he doesn't get overwhelmed, but if we are looking at hiring a GM neophyte, I think we could do a lot worse than him.
