The hard truth is it won’t matter who plays as long as Stanley Bryant is our left tackle. The most important position in football besides the quarter back, and he consistently gets taken to school. Hes simply not quick enough to contain a defensive lineman anymore. I watched him constantly over the last couple of weeks to see how bad it is. He doesn’t just get beat occasionally, he gets beat on almost every single play. He’s either beat clean or has to hold, neither of those things are good for us. I love Stanley Bryant and what he’s meant to this team, but he’s single handily our number one liability out there currently. There’s no way you can watch game film and say hey this is perfectly fine. He’s going to get our quarterbacks killed out there.

We know the Oline has a hard time in pass protection...and we've known this for weeks...so we consistently swing our great blocking RB out to WR, and allow one of the best pass rushing DLs in the league make real easy decisions on their assignments....but thats not on coaching? Offense builds momentum by consistently running the ball in the 3rd/4th quarter...dragging the back into the game. And after his best/biggest run of the game he doesnt get another touch. But thats not on coaching? Players were consistently put in positions to be beaten. On offense and defense. The players did themselves no favours either. And made plenty of mistakes. But none of them happened for the 1st time this game, and the coaches seemingly refused to change anything. But thats not on coaching?

I don't create threads very often but I was kind of missing a good ol' post-game thread. The title of the thread sums up my take on last night's game. Going from a Sunday game that went about as far into overtime that you can get to a Friday match against a high powered Calgary offense. This wasn't going to be easy. I'm not going to say that we win this game otherwise, but a lot of what I saw can be attributed to this. Everyone, to a man, was a half step behind. First few drives looked like we were trying to conserve energy. That was embarrassing, particularly our first defensive effort. At a point though, they all realized they have to give more if this game was going to stay close. That said, they were not able to overcome their physical limitations..and that really exposed that we are not a great team. Great teams have enough talent that they will find a way. The Good Our defensive front seven has continued to be a force. There is a lot of talent in this group. We had their run game bottled up and they were making life difficult for VA. Major Williams, to me, was the only DB out there that played well enough. He's a rookie though, and in the CFL you are going to get beat every once in a while. Our offensive line, I thought, had a solid night minus the last few drives when the game was pretty much out of reach (and one player that I'll get to). They were going against a very good Calgary defensive line. I'm sure some will bite my head off for this but I thought that Wallace even did a fairly good job at RT. I haven't watched the replays or watch every play after the fact. But the plays I watched him I thought he was holding his own. Demski and Oliveira were the highlights for me. When they are put into situations to play to their strengths, they can be very good. I just don't think this happens enough. It's hard to say that Dru Brown was good, but I think he's being put in a tough spot. As was brought up by @JuranBoldenRules in another thread, his options are all within 20 yards with DBs and linebackers all over the place within it. I think for the most part he's making the right reads. But he didn't have many open receivers to throw to. The Bad Offensive playcalling has to be number one for me. We have to put Brady in a position to make plays. We aren't. He is our workhorse. If anyone is going to thrive on a short week it is going to be him. But no, we continue to put him out wide for some reason. And we are running too many plays that are sending him east-west. That is not his game. Anytime we had him going up the middle tonight he was making something of it. This will be Stanley Bryant's last year. He is a shadow of his former self. Missing his block left, right and center. When Brox is healthy I'd say we line him up at LT and move on with Bryant. Defensive backs. A step slow tonight. Showed in their ability to tackle. Showed in their ability to adjust to the ball in the air. I get the feeling that Moxey is playing hurt. He refuses to do anything that requires making a play on the ball. It's pretty embarrassing. Nichols, for being a smaller guy, cannot be slow, and cannot be slow to react. I'm not counting him out completely but it isn't looking good. Holm had a terrible game and just didn't seem to be himself. The short week did a number on this group IMO. I thought the receivers had a similar problem to the DBs. We rely so much on Pokey Wilson and Tim White to get separation. They couldn't last night, and I think that lead to many of the interceptions. They didn't have enough and made the Calgary DBs look very good. As has been brought up elsewhere, we need some different types of receivers that can make plays in different ways. Special teams...half step too slow..was all of the difference. Also the 57 yard FG call when our defense was rolling and we could pin them deep. Hated that.

Every team likes to 'set the tone' for a game ..When the opposing team sees a 'passive' start, which has been the case in a lot of our games, we've set the tone...I'm sure the opposition are just licking their chops at seeing the nonchalant way the players are conducting themselves ...easy pickings....Except for a few players on this club that attitude is a harbinger of things to come....That has to end

Coaches don't motivate. That's on the players. Coaches prepare. Can burn the coaches and organization for choosing the wrong leaders on the roster for sure. Our O is a well documented mess in general. Outside of the Toronto game have started slow every single game. We've been taking the ball to start the game when we win the toss and basically never end up with more than a FG attempt. Basically never see any adjustments on O. Will see a drive once a game that's all deep shots or all runs, but no consistent balance or adjustment to overall approach. Our D is never prepared to start the game/half. 3 out of 4 home games (all the ones we lost) we gave up TD drive to start the game on D. First drive out of half (we're almost always kicking off to start because we've been taking the ball), almost always give up big plays/points. Our D never really seems to fire up until 3-4 possessions into the game. But even at their best we're hardly putting any pressure on the ball at any level of the field. Just see teams laughing their heads off at us at how passive we are.

Ahh yes...our coaches...sure some players carry huge blame..but at end of the day..our coaches chose them...had them basically unprepared to succeed...or execute...and couldn't find it in themselves to adjust anything..or bench anyone...ive said before..and will again...or coaching or lack there of is..and has been killing us..full stop...it can't be disputed Our...were provided with a shitty assignment..game plan...were not properly prepared...were not yanked for und underperforming..on and on..game after game Maybe some of the drops would disappear..some the tackles would be made...some the assignment responsibility would be corrected if we didnt take extra days off practiced...there's a thought..use the jugs machine..mandate 30 straight catches in a row or u dont leave field...seen it done...run over scenarios over and over..and if someone isnt getting it...remove from roster for someone who does...seen that first hand too...essentially..aka...coach your goddamn team and tuck the country club atmosphere up your HC smug ass...there's a thought

Start by using the pieces you have to build the best roster you possible can. Not convinced we do that in the slightest, but let's actually put the best team we can on the field and see where it's at. There's no universe where Cobb is one of the best Canadians on the team and needs to be a starter always and forever.

explain.... because I disagree on some levels of this. Yes there was a lack of execution by some players for sure however there's lots of things we CAN point to the coaches needing to do better as well, including putting players, and the team in a position to succeed. Here's one glaringly obvious example of a coaching decision we can criticize..... why the **** are we trying a 58 yard field goal at that point in the game? That wound up being 7 points for Calgary and a bunch of momentum when we actually have a punter that can pin a team deep and who knows from there.

I think you have this amazing ability to gloss over everything a coach can do to put players in positions to succeed and prepare them. I mean the defense gave the team a ton of chances with the ball late but they didn't take advantage of it for a lot of reasons including some coaching ones. Like for example Stanley Bryant has been embarrassing himself every game this seasons. Coaches needed to convince him to hang them or or even cut him in camp if he didn't get the message. Coaches should be building an offense around Brady not making him play receiver and then throw 40 times a game.

Bryant out. If vanterpool is healthy start him at rt other wise poncius vs wallace probably poncius. The ol could use more but we don’t have much to go in for subs. Vaval is too good with the ball in his hands not to see action. use him in jet sweep packs, screens etc. Start singer at wr no more 3 nis. strip TC of play calling duties. Bring in lapo if possible. Honestly, i’d let zach call plays whether he is starting or not. Hall takes over play calling duties for now. jy still installs D and such, but hall is the qc and jys boss not working for jy. His adjustments are fantastic, and he doesn’t over complicate play calls. Dl, cut jenkins. Demote korny to pr. bring in imp dts. Cut wilson and start smith. rotation of jones has been pretty good, continue that. Air lift in dbs, rookie imps and vet cuts. most every one in the secondary needs to be pushed. Cut moxey right away. When allen is back try him at that corner spot. DA wj. he’s damn good and already rotating, and nuer has been doing better each game.

Again, I do not know what Booch and others know about line play, but from my perspective, it seemed that there was more confusion on our O-line than getting put on the ground or on roller skates. That would seem to be either players trying to compensate for an inept player (like Pat Neufeld did for Kolankowski) or poor coaching. Broxton seemed to be walking with a normal gait, so I think that was a good sign. Gotta do something about both Elsbury and Bryant, though.

Other things i’d do, send daniels to the pr. he isn’t bringing any thing and takes snaps away from mci who is better at every thing. Start clercius over nield. I like nield and i think he will be excellent down the road. but he hasn’t produced and every one needs the message that if you don’t produce you don’t play. Bring in some one like masoli to sit in the ir/pr and be a coach with out eating into the front office cap. Actively shop assets like nl/picks/draft rights for young talent. Finally clear out the pr to make room for airlifts.

Why do people keep saying there are too many "deep balls?" We basically throw nothing more than 20 yards. Our YPA on passes the last two games is under 7 yards. The game we actually did have some vertical routes against Toronto the only thing that stopped our O was turning the ball over. We're throwing short and intermediate routes across the field into coverage because the D is dividing the first 20 yards of the field into thirds, one guy in the first 10 yards, one guy at 18-20 yards behind. They are under and over everything we are running because we do not go deep. So the QB looks like a dumb **** because every route he's reading on any play has 2-3 guys in coverage/proximity to it to break it up.

In free agency, we need to change our focus from old players who might have a good season to two left to young up-and-comers. Example: Ayden Eberhardt, not Tim White. We need to change training camp from "it's about what you've done in the past" to fighting for your job every day, every play, every rep. No vet days. No pre-season games off, at least a quarter for every vet. Highly competitive practice = highly competitive play. Relaxed practices = relaxed play. We need to "Buono" the old guys a year or two early rather than wait until they are obviously done. Example: Stanley Bryant MOS needs to change and get with the times. Use every rule to its best advantage. Make sure players are ready before putting them on the roster. Start looking for problems before they become glaringly obvious to the fans. Be ready to change plans ASAP when they aren't working. Less LB's on the AR. Bigger receivers. Change the offense to match Dru's abilities at least until Collaros is back. More Brady O. Less deep balls. We need to find a way to stop making so many errors on defence. Too many wide open receivers deep = too many explosion plays = too many points against.
