  2. The secondary is looking impressive again. If they can get consistent heat up front, the D is gonna be lethal

  3. Bailey is not gonna look global Hansen was raw...and had no real experience in n.american football...Bailey is well integrated in it..to point scouts thought he was an American Person is so intruigung...as he can play on line...but athletically and body type can play outside linebacker...Jack type stuff...just look at him and it screams NFL outside 4 set linebacker visuals...if he gets on roster and plays a lot..he will get NFL interest in fall...he was a legit NFL prospect

  5. Yeah this is the thing for me... you only need 2 Canadian dts. If injuries happen you shift things around to compensate but there is absolutely no need for 3 of them, especially when they don't do anything special.

  6. I'm not seeing a lot to bash either. People are complaining about the lack of roster turnover without actually acknowledging that we have had a lot of roster turnover in the past couple of years. Always lots of emotion on cut down day tho, as guys that we have grown attached to from our own internal hype get let go and then we find out we were mostly wrong about them as they never make another team either.

Awards, standings, the team, whatever your pleasure. Standings : Winnipeg Bc SSk Cal Edm I see us winning in the 12 +/-1 game range again in a tight western race. I think Calgary is in the playoff race and will go right down to the wire. I think SSK and bc jockey for 2nd in the west, and bc wins by 1 game. Montreal Toronto Ottawa Hamilton Toronto's season losses slow them down at the start of the year, but their endless spring of dynamic import talent at DL helps them peak at the right time, yet again. Montreal, I think, will start out well and then close the season on a low note. Dru brown might be in the MOP race when he puts Ottawa on his back again and drags them to the playoffs. Hamilton is in a rebuilding year that they still won't commit to. For us, I think we will flash brilliance early on, but not protect the QB as we need to, until after LD. I think our D will top the league and be even better than last year. I think some people in BC will wish they hired Hogan, not Buck, before the year is out. I think Vaval will be our MOR, and most of the rest of the awards candidates for us will be repeats. Schoen leads the league in receiving and TDs again, Brady in rushing yards. I think BC comes to regret the major decisions they made this off-season, namely in Buck and letting Vaj go.

  8. Just signed up for TSN for the CFL season. Time to get it on!

  9. Ya only rushing 3 and dropping almost everyone back into coverage made it seem like our DL was trash... But I think it was more scheme than anything. What will the scheme look like this year?

  10. One positive about Jordan Younger's defence over Richie Hall's, both the Safety and the MLB are playing more traditional roles. Saw it last season, the Safety is no longer run stopping 5 yds. off the line, and the MLB isn't attempting to cover fleet receivers 40 yds down field, as Bighill often did. This allows more traditional athletes to play those positions, no great need for a thumper at Safety or a super mobile MLB that can run a 4.6/40. By limiting the scope of duties, more candidates qualify.

  11. Very likey yeah. Also woods played edge in the 30. I’d think we see Wj Lawson woods vaughters start with Jake adams Bailey and schmek on the bench. Adam’s taking heavy reps at dt and de, Jake splitting more than he should with Lawson and schmek playing fairly few reps. Maybe we di Ayers and da kyrie. Then di vaval to kr and db. Offence is gonna be thin for imp talent.

  12. Riders might compete, unfortunately they chose a rickety old wagon named Harris to get them to the playoffs. Fell short again.
    3 points
  13. Fajardo and MBT are both starting by week 5. VAJ goes on an MOP-level heater to start the year but cools off with the weather. Harris gets hurt sometime in the first third of the season. McCheese gets a new topping -- manure.

  14. Very much agree. That was one of my biggest concerns with cut time. I'm fine with seeing if tony jones can grow. He flashed better range in camp and the first game. It's nice to have a young athletic LB core. Agree for sure. If we can rotate Adams for some snaps on the edge and Bailey for some as well, that will let us keep WJ and Vaughters both healthy and rested. It's also going to be a big advantage to have Cam back for half+ the defensive snaps at one DT spot, and woods/adams in year 2 at the other. Teams are not going to be able to double WJ a lot this year.
    3 points
  15. WJ+Vaughters is an excellent duo but both are better if they have somebody to sub in. Using Pearson as a DI for this makes a lot of sense. Or Bailey as a global in this role. I mean take Schemekel or Kornelson off for Bailey or don't DI two linebackers and get Pearson on.

  16. Nothing terribly surprising about who made the final roster, IMO... K Wilson is a guy I wish we had moved on from but he was making the roster the second we was extended... same with Jake... I would assume Munier-Bailey would offer much more to the game day roster than any of Jake, Schmek, or Kornellson... so hopefully we see at least one change there... I'm also concerned about losing someone like J Jones or Ayers or Woodbey at the expense of T Jones or Wilson.... I don't know much about Woodbey but I'd rather roll the dice on him than watch Wilson get hurt again...

  17. First, I'll say I don't see a lot to bash in this set of cuts either. The NI wr depth is a side effect of us trying to draft just teams guys for a couple years. But you are basically always in a situation of needing to restock NI depth at at least one position in the CFL. That said, If you look at the argos of the dinwiddie time or the stamps previous dynasty, both teams would've had the last 3 years of roster turn over in vets in one year, and then some. Guys like kyrie and thomas would've been gone long ago. We aren't stuck on a lot of old vets any more. It's just a couple under achievers that get penned in now. I also don't see considerable discourse. Last year was much more controversial. And the year before that. I see people discussing the cuts and questioning some moves, which is the point here yeah? The current roster isn't a sign of much imo. A lot is going to change before week 1, and yeah Bailey will be the 2nd global by then if not fairly shortly after imo. He was banged up to start camp and is a little be further behind, though he did show well in the 2nd game. They may even keep weitz on just because of his familiarity with the teams system. We have a good bit of turn over in the depth of special teams. They might want a bit of extra continuity for now.

  18. Maier looked like a qb I wouldn't want on my team. He looked just like he did in Calgary. Maier reminded me of Matt Nichols in his last couple of years. Can't push the ball downfield consistently on his deep throws. below average arm strength. Passes all over the field underneath. Throws 6 yards when he needs ten. Ten yards when he needs 20, etc. Maier seems afraid to take chances & let his receivers work to make contested catches & is just very conservative in his approach. You can't win with a guy like that who play so damned uninspired.

  22. If it was up to me...and as no reciever really stepped up...I'd roll first game with Schoen..demski..Clercius...Wheatfall and actually dress Cooley as the "5th" reciever...run with multi back sets ..sets with motion...bring him or BO out as a reciever and have Cobb and Corcoran as the "backups" integrate MCi as a TE hybrid...and develop him as a true TE/Fullback guy...he has the skills Let Cobb punt return and even have him and MCI back for kickoffs...save a valuable DA for Person When logan ready he drops in Cooleys spot in same type roll and is the returner...Cooley to 1 game IR or PR...still frees up that DA spot...I bet Hogan could abuse the crap outta teams with that setup...plus it accelerates MCI into being a legit weapon That 5th guy would have got minimal targets anyway..and gives the top 4 guys more opportunities...and imagine a defensive coordinator trying to scheme a plan with BO as RB and a Demski and Logan/Cooley as well coming from depth and pulling motion...sucking defenders outta the box?

  23. I'm very curious how dinged Logan actually is... Man we need that guy.

  24. I think we'll have 2 Canadian DL, 1 Global and 4 Americans on for Game 1. Question will be where Lawson is at. Wouldn't be surprised if he's out the first couple games just to build up football activity to game pace....or to be as ready as he can for a regular season game anyways. Kelly and Makonzo both on 6 game. Hagerty out game 1 too. Only healthy Canadian DB we have is Hallett. Near certainty we dress 6 American DB's. Depending what the plan is for returns, Cam Allen might be the best bet for the 6th spot.

  25. Do we really need 3 of Lawson...Scmeck...Thomas tho...I would think 1 if not 2 of them spots be better served by a db..reciever...Hakkanuva be a perfect replacement for one as like u mentioned our national reviever depth is not only paper thin..it's crap Wj..Vaughters..Woods..Adams..Lawson...Bailey is a top notch 6...if only we could add Person somehow...if we ratio it so we need only 1 Canadian on defence...and Actually use WJ as a nationalized I see no need for both Scmeck/scmuck duo..especially when Kelly and Makonzo back...as that may be our ticket to getting Person on roster with Adams and Woods Kelly is key as he can play safety and I'd have zero issue with him taking reps and wide side corner...kids a legit baller...and a healthy Makonzo is a better version of Kramdi...so with both those 2..and Kelly...Lawson we be set up nice and versatile...especially if Shay and Smith develop nicely which I have no doubt they will There is no way..reason...or logic Kornelson gets on active roster...I shocked he didn't get cut...we already have 2 Canadian interior guys who are pointless...why add a 3rd? Those 2 should be eating 80% of reps Don't sleep on Bailey...he was a major score...hes not the prottypical "global"

  26. I'm hoping the DL can create pressure on their own, and not rely on the blitz. This was pretty much a non starter last year.
    2 points
  27. Wow, you're being kind, they all just forfeit the season cuz they suck, especially the Riders and Argos.
    2 points
  28. This is the big question for me.... Last year our DL play SEEMED suspect because they weren't trying to rush as much. Will we blitz more this year? I'm very curious how that all looks...
    2 points
  29. Maybe. We can't keep all those import LB's on the AR. Who gets moved and to where is a giant question at the moment. LOL. Yes but it was against the Riders and they suck.
    2 points
  30. This. Happy is wasn't at the expense of Ayers and JJones.
    2 points
  31. Yeah. the difference between having schmek, as the 3rd canadian Dt and 5th DT over all vs having a 2nd DE is huge. Schmek can do some heavy set stuff, but bailey has some value for teams as well.
    2 points
  32. Its a no brainer for me that he would be on the roster. We struggled with a lack of depth on the Dline all of last year and as a global he's basically bonus depth in that area.
    2 points
  33. he looked really good in the 2nd game yeah.
    2 points
  34. Yeah, Logan and Hogan will take us far imo. I think we over achieved a good bit in the 2nd half of last year, carried heavily by the play of our secondary. I think our overall level of play will be similar but with a higher floor and potential to be better moving forward. Zach seems healthy and sharp, which is a pleasant surprise. I was ready for the worst case scenario with him. I think our primary limiting factor early on is going to be our OL and how it gels. Plus how often it changes between now and LDC. I'm not looking too hard at the AR or the PR right now as It's gonna change a good bit still for game 1. But it is the best combination we've broken camp with in out of the last 3 ish years. I'm overall optimistic, while still not expecting ideal ARs in the first few weeks of the year. There is a mild to moderate chance we do some thing wild like roster all the Lbers, and roll into game 1 with 10 guys and 4 imports for 2 spots. but we will see.

  35. If it was me, I might take a look at a guys like hakunavanhu, rysen john, and maybe Sénécal as a project. Our ni wr depth is paper thin. I’d also give hollins tires a kick.
    2 points
  36. I'd try...I can think of a few spots he could replace here
    2 points
  37. I don't know what Calgary's receiver group looks like, but following Adams to Calgary seems like it'd be the natural thing for Hollins, no?
    2 points
  38. I don’t really see pissing and moaning. It’s more like unsurprised yet still disappointed. Im more encouraged by zachs play and hogans play call than any thing. Also very optimistic about some front 6 improvements, and ni depth. The youth and athleticism of our depth on D is really impressive too. JYs next step and progression as a dc is another big point of optimism. The roster will start out sub par and likely improve as young guys earn more reps and old old guys miss time. Kyrie staying healthy has never been a thing before.
    2 points
  39. All pissing and moaning aside.... I still think we have a really good team that could easily be the top team in the west, if health stays on our side for a change.

  40. We don't, but Mos is married to the heavy set packages, where Schmek shines. And I think he's married to schmek anyway in general. I'd be happy with just 1 on the roster. But that would be one of the biggest surprises to me. I think kelly will be ready for game 1, but Makonzo seems to be a bit out. When we have both, with shay as well, I think we can go with out the DI DB for the dime set. If vaughters faulters, I think Person will be quick to get pulled in. I'd love to have taht line with person in. I'm not holding my breath though. Bailey I think is going to be Hansen 2.0, but better. Im really excited to see him get in and contribute for us.

yeah, I think that VA still has a bunch to prove ... he's never been clutch when the chips are down ... but no complaints about his play during the regular season. Rourke put up a lot of numbers against shitty teams in his golden run. Maybe the dude isn't just a flash in the pan, but he has to prove that yet. Harris will get hurt and that's the end of the Roughriders. The Elks will go as far as Fajardo will take them. That might be a surprising distance. His teams win games they shouldn't. Winnipeg 11-7 Edmonton 9-9 Calgary 9-9 BC 9-9 Riders 7-11 Toronto 12-6 Montreal 10-8 Ottawa 8-10 Hamilton 6-12

Same boat here. I think Calgary and Ottawa will be in a similar situation. Very good Qbing, good offence, not a lot of support. But I think both will be better than Hamilton was last year.

  44. I think it was a crutch, though it will remain an extremely good option for various situations. I don't think that will be our base or pass D base this year. I think we will see a lot of 40 fronts, and more blitzing than we've seen in a while. Hopefully not too much, but some situational blitz packages. Not just feed a lber to the centre/guard either, but blitzes actually designed to get a fast backer to the QB.

I mean sure maybe, Calgary has turned over a lot.... but man they got a lot to prove at this point.

  46. I'm guessing they are planning to use Devin Adams similarly to last year where he can line up inside and outside. Otherwise they have only 2 DE on the roster right now. It would seem that there is an open spot for Munier-Bailey so I'll be really surprised if he's not on the week 1 roster.

  50. I’m going to reserve the right to wait until our actual week 2 roster is sorted but I’m not thrilled about Kyrie or Parker making the team. Sheahan is another one. I will say I like the PR choices we made, but I’m hopeful some of them are actually on the roster for season kickoff - mostly Person or Allen.
