New TV Contract

https://3downnation.com/2026/01/14/cfl-sets-start-of-2026-season-as-self-imposed-deadline-for-new-broadcast-deal/

Well, same ****, different year. The CFL screwed itself 100 times over by going to a single game provider in 2008. The other networks basically said, Eff You. Now, they're stuck with a shitty provider who chronically underpays because they can do what they want. And a former TSN president negotiating with his old company?? What good can come from that?

It's a good deal for 6 years but when DAZN finds out that nobody is subscribing, they won't be back for a round 2 after this deal is up.

More money in teams pockets...i guess when you look at it on a teams bottom line...its a win

I wonder who the broadcast team for DAZN will be. Will they use TSN guys or will they need to hire their own talent? Not that the TSN broadcast is a gold standard or anything, but if they need to hire a whole crew for one game a week, how bad will they be?

If anyone is curious like I briefly was if this deal was implemented this year it would affect Week 18 (away at MTL) and week 19 (home vs Calgary)

An additional $3.5 million a year per team is a giant boost to sustainability, no? Sucks to have to pay for another service, but better than having no league.

True and this revenue better result in helping grow and enhance the league and attract talent viewership etc versus lining the pockets of capitalist pigs.

Again starting off my morning outstanding!

Good morning all!

DAZN is where desperate leagues/promotions go to for a tv deal. Not a good sign at all.

Zero casuals are going to buy a DAZN subscription just to watch Saturday night CFL games. Had it been Prime/Netflix it would have made sense.

In a time when technology has moved so far ahead... I keep going back to the illegal streams just to watch the few things that I enjoy.

Isn't every NFL game on DAZN in Canada?

I'm really curious to know why everyone seems to think DAZN is so low on the totem pole. They're huge outside of the US. Their NFL service in Canada is great. I hate the price, but the quality is amazing.

no kidding lol just such unawareness

So in order to watch the games starting next year, one has to pay for either cable and DAZN or TSN and DAZN......we no longer have the ability to watch all games from one source....If I got this correct then I don't like it.....how many casual eyeballs, heck even dedicated eyeballs are really going to drop that extra money....

Extra revenue is nice for the teams but I don't see this generating any extra viewership....

Because the greedy fucks who make decisions don't realize that people don't want 1000 subscription payments to watch everything. They want 1 or 2 places to get what they want. More than that piracy is more attractive.

In the states you have to have subscriptions to about 4 services to watch every national broadcasted game for the NFL.

Also, I doubt pubs and restaurants are going to have a subscription to show that in their venues as opposed to just throwing tsn on one of the tvs.

Walby, Dunnigan, and a 24 of OV

Wow now that’s a panel.

Throw in a 24 of Club along with the OV and include Suitor as a whipping boy for Walby and Dunnigan as the beer flows and takes effect. I would definitely pay a subscription fee to watch that.

I think after watching the first episode this is what would happen:

Who won the game?

What game?

That would be worth the $35/month.....

DAZN has 20 million subscribers globally. In Canada they are probably the best way to watch the NFL and Soccer so they should have a reasonable Canadian subscriber base.

I can't imagine that people who only watch their own teams games will shell out 35/mo to catch the 2-4 games that get caught up in this.

And if you enjoy watching all the games week over week 35 is still fairly steep

They are definitely counting on existing subscribers to make it worth their while. CFL is a summer league so it could fill some of the gap for them between Club and European Soccer and the NFL

I think DAZN is just happy to have yet another offering as part of their subscription service. They already have the NFL package, they may hope to draw some eyeballs from people just flipping through options on some nights. I think that's the CFL perspective as well.

Unfortunately, it takes Saturday night football off the table for regular CFL viewers unless they have that subscription.
