2019 CFL Season: Around the League

Pre season action 1PM PT

BC at Edmonton

3 Areas To Watch

Number 2 Pivot: Who Steps Up?

BC - Ricky Lloyd and first-year Leos Austin Apodaca and Cole Sears will handle the quarterback reps in hopes of getting a leg up on sticking behind Reilly on the depth chart.

Edmonton- Danny O’Brian, Logan Kilgore, Briscoe.

- One big observation in the first week of camp is the depth at receiver. Standouts at the position have included Joey Augustin, Marquis Bundy and Mexican additions Fernando Richarte and Gerardo Alvarez. All CFL clubs are required to keep one global player on their roster beyond training camp.

- Defensive Line: Calling On Another Bookend

With Odell Willis having another strong showing in camp, the big question remains who will line up as the other bookend.

- Linebacker Adam Konar gets to battle some of his own teammates after he was cut loose and quickly picked up by the Lions on day one of camp. He’ll start at MLB

I don't think Hecht deserves the heat he's taking on here, but I would absolutely be in for taking a good safety if there is one...

I think we already have our next safety on the roster. Exume has all the skills to play the position.

Exume appears to have the speed, physicality and pugnacity. Does he have the discipline, smarts and spidey sense?

Hecht mThe only things saving his butt are his passport and a darned good set of DBs around him.

Well that, and a pretty good chicken dance..

If Exume was a potential safety, why wouldn't he have gone higher in the draft? He went nearly last because all he does is STs... Or so I thought...?

Edited by Noeller

Not sure how Exume jumped Derek Jones and Dondre Wright as our next starting safety besides being good at special teams... and 'new'

Would be a nice story but I don't see it happening - think he mostly played Field CB anyway

Just curious, have you ever seen him play safety? Being a good/great gunner =/= all the skills to play safety.

Patrice Rene will fall like Loffler did...  would be a steal in the 4th

Dev Lamour has a great name - I hope we pick him

Auclair looks like he could be a safety prospect too

Montreal was in the middle of a 25 year grey cup draught then so we can handle them as long as its the 80's allouettes too.  No cups between 77 and 02

C'mon now, that's not fair. Montreal didn't have a team from 1987 - 1995. Not only that, the team they became (Baltimore Stallions), actually won the Grey Cup in 1995. The only American CFL team ever to do so.

Give Derek Jones another 5 years and he might figure out why he wants to be a football player.

O-Shea: "Hey Derek, we just lost Loffler,  we know you're a starter and you've certainly paid your dues, how would you like to start at Safety this year?

Jones: "Ah...sure Coach, wherefore does I stand?"

O-Shea: "Hmmm......Derek, meet Jeff Hecht."

Jones: "Gee, he's a real shorty."

Hecht: "Hi Derek, if you've got a minute can you give my socks a quick rinse."

Jones: "......hokay."

IMO - our first pick will be a DB.

We've gone CND at safety and that's probably the spot where we could use an upgrade the most... linebackers are fairly set as IMP and on the DL we've already drafted our Thomas replacement/backup for Kongbo.

Fairly obvious we don't need to spend an early pick on OL for the next draft given our current situation (maybe a later round pick on someone who needs training but has the right body).  Receiver could be an option for an early CND pick depending on how much they like Demski/Petermann, RB I think we're set with Oliviera/Augustine/Harris.

History says Walters always pick an OL or DL on first round. Couture will be an FA after this year and surprise retirement(s) happens.

So always pick top prospect(s) for the trenches.

Hecht is often late getting to a play, so he definitely doesn't have big time speed, but I think more often than not he's in the right place and gets the job done. Serviceable is right....

Hecht is good with the ball in the air but once he’s gotta make a play in the open field he’s pretty ... bad

I see that shot at my comments about you that you tossed in there 😂

all in good fun

Better than Lofler. Hecht's not in chase mode like Lofler was & we're much better defending the pass than in previous years so he is doing his job.

Baltimore became MTL. Alouettes ceased to exist in 1987. Nice to think it's a seamless timeline but in reality today's AL'S  are just the relocated Stallions.

It's Kyle Walters, he taking a lineman of some type with his first pick guaranteed.

as it should be.  There is no such thing as a excess number of good Canadian linemen - especially olinemen.

I think Walters trades his pick again - got some Cdns on this team that will be expensive to keep

think we restock our LB/DBs this year like he did with receivers a couple years ago

You think some our refs are bad, this is downright brutal:

So Hughes has been one-gamed...I guess ol Dickie trying to preserve him so he doesn't fall off the map yet again as he has seemed to already have started his swoon..

The green bog is claiming he must be sick because he was late for practise......  I bet he was late cause he was hung over

Hughes is 35 going on 36, he's probably just sore as all hell.

Sure he’s sore as hell especially when Streveler accidentally tripped over him for his only sack of the game..

By the bye..

Blocked FG? Really? Ticats 4 turnovers. Calgary 0

Saskatchewan finds a way to win yet again?

The Riders are 8-3 with Fajardo as the starting quarterback.

Lesson learned.

Don’t count on anybody else to help you in the standings.

I actually love watching Fajardo succeed the same way we pulled Nichols off the scrap heap...  now who is the next great ‘journeyman’...  both these guys lucked out with coordinators that suited their skills... ie McAdoo sucks and so does Fajardo so it kind of works

jennings, Franklin, Evans all don’t jive with their OCs

Someone should sign Mitchell gale...!!

Edited by Floyd

See nothing Fajardo does is impressive to me. Even a couple of those deep shots he completed against the Als, with better awareness from the db they could easily have been picked. Guy relies on quick hitters and escaping the pocket. His arm isn't good enough for me to really worry about that guy as a passer. Figure he's a one hit wonder for this season and nothing more.
