Bomber Moves 2018

Sorry but I don't like the total silence coming out of Bomberville, but that's just me; I like action and news  like all of you.  Yes we've extended a contract or two and we are distributing the year-end money before the 2018 salary cap  comes in.

But what are the deep thinkers in our organization planning to do?

I hope they are not thinking status quo; that never seems to work out well. Unless we are dedicated to making sharp improvements here and there, I believe we atrophy from last year.

After the 2017 NFL cuts were made did we bring in any linebackers for a sniff? I saw other prospects up here but maybe I missed something.

We have got to fix what's broken and I think somehow management must know more than we do ... we are good prognosticators with our comments on this site but I would like management to show us up.

We are not hearing a lot of news out of the Calgary and Edmonton football clubs so maybe our Blue Bombers are an elite club now (as we join those two in their silence).

But man I hate twiddling my thumbs as I wait to see what our local gurus are going to do. No news is bad news, say the bored ...  Well at least were not coming off seasons like Ottawa Hamilton and Montréal had.

So maybe I should be grateful for our club and its management.

Say what you will about Mike O'Shea but no one can ever overstate how valuable he has been in turning around the perception and culture of this franchise.

  • TSN1290 reporting that SK offered the most money, but he chose Winnipeg.

Nevis re-signed and Poop, Jeffcoat, Okpo still under contract and one position on the DL basically needs to be NI maybe two

I just want to see a linebacker prospect that's all.  This reminds me of last year where LB and REC ended up being our weakest recruiting areas... again.

Because its oh so close to camp already?

Remember  it is early.....mini camp is the next test before TC

Re: the Bond vs Randall debate.  We have one very good quarterback on hand two ..umm...questionable ones to protect and Bond has been a valuable and solidifying presence on the O-line.  On the other hand, despite Randall's efforts, our backfield got lit up a lot once again. So, close as it might seem, my vote goes to keeping Bond.

The thing is they won't.

I can just imagine the 2018 Bombers trotting our there with Sam Hurl and Patrick Neufeld as starters like it’s 2015.

Why wouldn't they? They brought back Hurl as the starting MLB so why not go for the double.

Sooo....you're saying I don't get a vote?

Winnipeg Blue Bombers agree to terms with CFL all-star cornerback Chris Randle

WINNIPEG, MB., January 23, 2018 –    The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms with international cornerback Chris Randle on a two-year contract. Randle was scheduled to be a free agent next month.

The Utah State product will enter his fifth season with Winnipeg in 2018, coming off an all-star season in which he was also named the team’s most outstanding defensive player. Randle finished the 2017 campaign with 60 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, one sack, five interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.

“Simply put, Chris Randle was one of those players that we knew we needed to work something out with prior to February 13,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “He is a leader in everything he does. He’s coming off the best season of his career and we’re looking forward to more of that in 2018. He’s a special player and an invaluable asset to our locker room, and I’m glad we were able to retain him.”

Randle has now played in 89 career regular season CFL games over six seasons, including 58 with Winnipeg. He has amassed 233 defensive tackles, 56 special teams tackles, three sacks, 15 interceptions, four forced fumbles and four defensive touchdowns.

Damn. Once again, they didn't take my advice.

YES!

I bet we'll see another soon too. Darren Cameron suggested a couple of signings were close.

Would bet on Leggett being one...

Leggett for sure.

very good news on Randle.. losing him would have been a huge blow to our defense.

Randle is an excellent signing. Now I must leave because I am so happy about this news that I need to do the Dance of Joy.

I love Randle and it’ll be nice to have him back. With Leggett injured, Randle was the most important of the trio to bring him back.

Does this mean we can't have Bond now?

I'll bet he goes to FA but we'll see what the other offers are like....

No - more along the lines that we're bringing a lot of prospects back from last season and I don't remember any linebackers being brought in for a look late in the season...  could be wrong.  I'd expect if they had found a 'gem' he'd be signed by now...  like Bingham, Straughan, etc...

Think he ends up as a Lion

thats true.. I thought I saw one LB signing but too lazy to backtrack n check.  I do think that Walter's might be eying some of the LBs in FA that are going to be available.   I hope that O'shea has expressed his need for a new MLB.
