SAKATCHEWAN @ CALGARY

Recommended Posts

Presenting the chance to salvage the weekend, we are provided with the opportunity to smile again with the Riders in Calgary game. The Riders, of course, had the bye last week so they are still wallowing in their glorious win.

GAME PREVIEW

By The Numbers

3 – Straight games Glenn has made 30 or more completions. No quarterback in CFL history has gone four consecutive games with 30 or more completions.

5 – Number of field goals made by Paredes last week. It was the seventh time in his career that he was a perfect five-for-five.

7 – Passing touchdowns for both Glenn and Mitchell heading into Week 5, tied for second in the league

14 – Consecutive games Mitchell has thrown for a major. His next touchdown pass will be the 100th of his career.

116 – Yards needed by Glenn to become the seventh player in CFL history to reach the 50,000 yard mark.

THE SKINNY

This is the first of three meetings between the Stampeders and the Riders in 2017. Calgary has swept the series against the Riders for the past three seasons, winning last year’s contests 35-15 and 19-10.

Calgary also has a history of dominating Saskatchewan at McMahon with a recent 9-0-1 record. The last time the Roughriders won at McMahon Stadium was eight years ago back on Aug. 1, 2009.

The Riders have not have had a lot of success coming off the bye week as of late, losing their past two games after a long rest.

While history favours the Stamps, Calgary will have to find a way to stop the Riders’ surging offence if it hopes to come out with a win. Saskatchewan leads the league in points per game (31) and yards per game (424) heading into Week 5.

?‍? Are the Riders that good in the offensive dept?

?‍? Is Kevin Glenn going to keep lighting it up on Offence?

?‍? The optimism is riding high on the Rider forum, many, many picking a Rider win.

?‍? As I said, the weekend can be salvaged with a Rider loss. It can almost be forgotten with a Calgary over Sask. thrashing.

Kalgary is being cind to Saskatchewan. They're running the ball a lot. Because if they attacked through the air...hoo boy

Well, yeah, it's like only 17-7.

Where did Calgary find Mr. Singleton and for gawd'sake, are there any more just like him?

Saskatchewan briefly made it interesting in the third quarter with some half-time adjustments.  Glenn had actual time to throw and they appeared to utilize the middle of the field effectively with some short passes.  Defense appeared to tighten up ...that and Mitchell was somewhat off on some of his passes.  Calgary returned to its dominant form in the fourth though giving the Riders little on offense and salting the game away with a late TD.  Barely over 200 total yards on offense and 13 first downs.  Despite some off-season improvements to the o-line and defense, Riders are still a long ways from being a contender.

To the surprise of many (including me) Glenn nor only lasted the whole game but even managed to resemble a recent quarterback. Its weird to hear that Glenn probably will pass Ronnie Lancaster in the stats, and that Danny Mac is actually ahead of Ronnie. Contrary to his reputation, Glenn took a beating and did not turtle or get happy feet- in fact he looked the most composed I've seen him in years. Calgary still looks beatable, though.  Muamba was invisible for the most part and likely not worth what they are paying him. When was the last time two Canuck MLBs were starting in the same game?

This is really not the purpose of challenges..but that's what you get.

When will it end? And when will the game start?

I was at the game. On the first challenge, they never even announced if it was a catch or not after the Riders challenged. They just announced the Stamps were throwing a flag for PI. We all assumed that the pass was ruled incomplete. Just brutal with these damned challenges.
