Around The League Off Season Discussion

Well that loss stung last night. Not happy with the decision to kick the FG but that can be discussed elsewhere :) All in all there was a lot of improvement this year over last year and looking like they are trending upwards. If Walters can pull off another great draft and some more key FAs this offseason I like our chances going into 2017. Who is on the FA watch list and what areas are we in desperate need of fixing?

  • It's been proven, in this league, that if you don't have a good backup....

The Bombers really need to kick the Riders ass sideways in their first game in the new park to set the tone for the season and send their fans off on the crazy train.  Nothing else matters.

  • Riders haven't lost yet so their fans feel emboldened to venture out of their own little bubble. Won't have to wait long for them to scurry back into their holes.

No....maybe like 3 people. The rest of those Rider fans don't want an old dinosaur hanging around. Get your facts together.

Facts? Since when were Rider fans interested in facts? Speculation, conjecture and and spinning seem to be the order of the day.

I responded to a post about Walters, why are you changing the subject?  I also never said Walters didn't do a good job either. I said don't get carried away. Shologan was a miss and had a poor year. Smith did nothing either, Dressler didn't light the world on fire in between injuries but had a ok year. Cummings was a flop.  Nichols was a good move, Harris was a good move. I think Walters has done a decent job overall. As far as the Riders go, I'm not here to defend some of the moves we have made, in fact I have made better choices drunk on who to take home from the bar, LOL

Pro rated over 18 games, he would've had 1290 yards aka 5th in the league.

Just okay I guess.

Ellingson signs with Ottawa, two-years

They needed that one.

Good re-sign.  They gotta move on their OL too, if I'm not mistaken they have 2 starters up for FA.

Kind of forgot to mention Medlock signing too...

Medlock was a good signing. I did think it was way too much money, which I mentioned here.  Funny thing is they had to rework the contract so I guess it was too much.

He legit deserved twice that amount just for kicking that game winner at the LDC!

I'm happy that you guys got to win one for a change, we were getting worried you would quit showing up for it one of these years.

210 k per year. 2 years. Seems like a lot of cash

Yep...don't think they can keep all those receivers if that's the going rate.  Jacksons gotta be worth that too.

You said "he was not that good while healthy."  The numbers show that he was.  Now if you want to question his durability that's valid but that's not what you said.

I haven't heard of that kind of number for an American receiver since Stegall

Somewhere in the attic of my memory SJ Green signing for 230k seems familiar.

we call it the kenton keith game. Rider fans constantly on and on about how he was better then blink if  you extrapolated his ypc and less games blah blah blah. Dressler was fantastic last year. Part of an offense that struggled to stretch the field, and score tds. And for the first fist full of weeks was probably the worst O in the league.

is earnest jackson still a FA? For my money hes the best they have and none in the league are better. Id love to see him in blue.

That is crraaazzzyyyy if true. He puts up great numbers but still drops too many for my liking.

I wouldn't be surprised if Keeping doesn't come back as a coach if he doesn't find work...

That would be a great move. Id kill to see walby join the staff on the OL too :P

I am aware they have his rights and any leverage.  His value is higher than a typical first round pick signing his first CFL contract.  Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have also proven nothing in the CFL.  He proved himself against professional football players.  Better ones.  As opposed to having only proven himself against university players, which is the concern for rookies.  He got developed on someone else's dime.  Montreal doesn't have to pay him for two years while they bring him along like we did with Goossen and are doing with Couture.  He arrives pro-ready which is not the typical situation for a player picked in the Canadian draft.  His value is legitimately higher than a typical first round pick signing his first CFL contract.

If Mulamba finally came here we would end up paying him more than we are paying Couture.

I'm not disputing that his value is higher than the Als offer. All I'm saying is that he has little leverage or ability to do anything about it. All he can do is carve out the best deal he can or demand a trade and take the chance the Als don't stonewall him for 2 years.
