Chris Jones Post Game

I'm paraphrasing here but when asked about the PI at the end of the game, Jones said that he didn't want to comment because he's already been fined for doing something every other team does and he didn't want to be fined another 25k.

What an arrogant ******.

I didn't get a chance to watch the replay until after I posted what I posted (I watched it live on a phone screen, and at that size and with Suitor/Cuthbert saying it just seemed like basic hand-fighting, I took it as such). Since I have now, I agree.

Also, I think Jones was referring to the roster fines he/the team received when he said he's fined for things other teams aren't. (He's wrong on that, too, of course!)

I was in the same boat. :)  I thought PI then I thought they got away with one and then when they had the bit with Rod Smith and Climie on Sportscentre I could see exactly what I initially saw live and what Climie commented on: the clutch and the pull through.

Keep in mind. Suitor drinks the green Kool aid.

Seriously at one point he said if the riders could win this game and win next week they'd be right in the thick of the playoff race in the west. Dudes a fool.

When the riders score a TD Glenn Suitor ejaculates Lots.

Durant will not be the Riders starting QB next season. Jones will try all to sign Franklin and anoint him as his QB.

I've watched a few rider games this year. The O and QB is NOT the issue.

I said something similar before and I will say it again...

If the Riders O put up 40 points... the Riders D would give up 45.

Riders aren't good at all and have a long way to go

I think a team can turn it around quickly if their Canadian talent and QB are set. Durant will still be a decent starter next year (tho who knows what happens if Jones throws him away for Franklin) and they have some national pieces (St. John, LaBatte, Chambers, Clark, Walters, Capicotti if he emerges from whatever black hole he's disappeared into.)

On paper, the Riders' national lineup looks way better than what the Bombers had at the start of the 2014 rebuild. Kohlert is the only starting seven guy from 2014 who's still with the BB, and Sorensen is the only guy whose dismissal I'd call a mistake.

Murphy has found a lot of American talent in his time, and will find more for them.  And I still think that Jones could be an effective head coach, he didn't suddenly take stupid pills in 2016, he's just out of his depth, trying to do too much.

I have no solid opinion one way or the other, but it's funny to hear you say that just because all season on Riderfans and Twitter, Rider priders have been complaining about how biased Suitor is against the Riders, and how he never has anything good to say about them.

I think it goes to show that when someone isn't falling all over Saskatchewan as the best team/organization/fans ever in the history of sports, they're automatically anti-Riders.

Makes the whole "conspiracy against us" BS a little unsurprising.

Actually, this year I have been surprised with Suitor's commentary. He has been far more impartial. He still goes on his man love of players but far less than he used to and he has been far more balanced in his observations.

Chris Jones needs to look in the mirror  and ask himself is he a coach or a gm before another voice says neither. Times ticking

Did anyone notice if Jones and O'Shea talked at the end of the game? Any fireworks there? I was swimming at Giant's Tomb Island in Georgian Bay and missed the game.

Okay wait... Jones thought the non PI call against Adams was a bad call. He was seen on TSN explaining to the ref why it should have been PI. I guess the ref learned something and decided that the next one was PI...

How could he be mad that one was clled PI when he also thought the previous one was PI?

Don't even try to figure Jones out. I don't even think he knows.

That could be be a repeat performance of the Kelly-LeFors saga.

I kept thinking yesterday how much what is going there reminds me of Rhinebold. Come in dismantle a team and end up a complete disaster. Looks good on the arrogant riders. Hopefully they will rebound in a decade or so.

I think they'd be a lot better off if they had just picked their team out of camp and stuck with it.  They'd be making fewer mistakes by now.

How about Suitor saying that Dressler will have "mixed emotions"?  A team that cut him without even a phone call? Dressler stayed classy in his comments but you know he'd been waiting for that game all season.

I'm just glad it has been proven that a Rider win on Labor Day is not preordained by God. Maybe they didn't cheer hard enough?

That's hilarious, I saw the same thing but never thought about that way. It's like the ref said, oh okay, and bam calls Sask on it. :)

The ex-DB thinks it was just hand fighting and the defensive player had inside position and the ex-receiver thinks it was PI because the hand fighting went on a little too long and the DB hooked the receivers arm.

Personally, I thought it was a bad call because the DB had inside position and the receiver's not allowed to come through the DB to get to the ball any more than the DB's allowed to come through the receiver.

As for 'this is what you get if you get rid of challenges'... that's fine with me. I doubt the call would have been overturned even with a challenge because it was an 'Opinion' type of call.

Very soft call to take away such a critical interception but there was some contact.  I'd be pissed if the same play had gone against the Bombers and lost us the game.

But the Riders have so many more problems than one bad call.  Their defence and special teams are wildly inconsistent and Chris Jones makes bizarre in-game and roster decisions pretty regularly.  I just saw that they don't have their 3rd or 4th round pick next year either.  I don't know how they are planning on improving their Canadian situation.

Without Darian Durant that team wouldn't even be competing in games but he can't carry the whole team to wins himself.

Lets remember that there is no way that Jones is going to get fired unless he violates a morals clause- his contract is just too rich to carry and the Riders are still on the hook for 2017 paying Taman and Chambliss (who must look pretty good to the Rider fans by now).  Jones' attitude has  to be poisoning his relationships with the refs as well. No good news in Riderville, and the vets there with pride are going to start giving up soon.

I just watched the highlights a couple times and I really do believe it was PI because, as mentioned, Dressler's arm was tied up and he wasn't allowed to come back to the ball. I sincerely believe it was the right call.

Indeed, a soft call. Who wouldn't be pissed to get called like that. BUT,

I pretty well think Climie called it right. There was contact by Cox, borderline, but once he got his arm in there, and the official did see it, then it went too far.

It only seems way worse because of the point in the game, but in no way do I come out thinking the refs were just waiting, with their hands on the flag, to get those slimy green bastards.

The PI certainly wasn't the only thing that allowed us to win and the DB doesn't have to let Dressler come back to the ball if he has inside position. I could see the call happening in the beginning of the game, but in the last minute of a tied game? I wouldn't have called it and I don't think the refs should have either.

Going for 2 stupid longish 3rd downs resulting in 2 turnovers was horrible coaching. Missing 2  FG's and a point after was horrible execution. They all had serious effects on the outcome.

if it's a penalty at the start of a game it should still be a penalty at the end of the game too. I hate this idea that it's OK to cheat when it's late in a game but not early, it sort of invalidates the early part of the game.

I don't think it was PI at all, so it wasn't cheating, but it was a close call. Most of the time the really close calls don't get called at the end of tight games. I'm sure you would have been pissed if it had gone against us instead of for us.
