I'd be a lot less critical of these articles if they explained their rational a bit more - even if I don't agree with where they have a guy going, at least let me see the thought process behind it.

I think it would be especially valuable for Hodge since he does multiple mocks and some of his picks change drastically.  Like how does he have a guy like Straker going from being his projected 3rd overall pick to 20th?  Or how does he have Kevens Clercius jumping up 12 spots from 23rd to 11th?

totally agree with you here... this is Ferguson's complete write up on his projected 20th overall pick Justin Sambu:

Every year I seem to draft Winnipeg an interior defensive lineman, while nobody has really laid claim to being ‘next’ in the Bombers rotation.

Thanks Marshall... now I know exactly what kind of player Sambu is and why the Bombers would select him...

I've decided to watch old Bomber games wherever I can find them, as the off season continues to wear on me and I long for football.  Here's my first contribution:

EDIT:  I am pretty sure I was at this game, as a young man, as my dad was a season ticketholder in 1980 and I was able to go to most of the games with him.  The 1980 Bombers will forever be one of my favorite teams of all time.

Montreal has a guy named Randy Rhino!!! RANDY RHINO!!! ... this is the greatest name I've ever heard... why have we never heard of this guy!?

For one possible answer, see the general (but not universal)  difference in reaction to Andrew Harris’ failed drug test and the justification that it was a tainted sample/useless old school steroid no one would take/so minimal in reading it was effectively useless and the corresponding response to Leonard’s test refusal (and therefore unknown what if anything he was on) in Saskatchewan and all the PED Leonard comments.

Personally.. I always thought No Pee Leonard was a better nickname... but the other one seemed to stick for some reason

It's a little cringy...but yea...a joke.  Pretty hairbrained of a professional organization to mass email though. If my buddy quipped this over a few beers, I'd laugh but not if it was said to a woman. If my wife heard him she would probably have some choice words and he wouldn't get my protection.

Sounds like they tried jump on (what is apparently) a social media trend... kind of funny but at the same time probably not a great idea to piss off a large group of the fanbase.

Has Kelly been convicted yet or admitted guilt?   I am not a fan of the guy but I wouldn't quite call him a criminal until proven guilty.    I wouldn't expect the Argonauts to go public about something that isn't out of the realm of possibility of being a complete lie.     More information (or a court case) would be needed before truly reserving judgement.

Now with Kenny Lawler it's black and white... the dude was caught drunk driving.  Not much needed in that for proven guilt.

The news broke less than a week ago... you're expecting some sort of resolution already??

If Kelly and Murphy are found guilty, I don't see how the CFL can allow them to be involved in the CFL any longer. Particularly Murphy who has made multiple issues for the CFL. Kelly....maaaybeee after a year suspension and multiple steps taken to correct his behaviour....but what that would look like I don't know.

I'll take the innocent until proven guilty mindset... in fairness to everyone involved... but if the accused was someone on the bottom of the roster, making near minimum... that player would be released already

If he starts at wil out of camp he’s going to be the talk of the league.  He plays on more of an edge than most of our front guys for the past while, is soo explosive and has a great instinct. Love watching him play.

My prediction is Bighill and Wilson are still the starters but Cole will be rotating in a lot… ideally we use the designated Canadian rule on Bighill to allow for even more flexibility on D… but that remains to be seen

Again , people seem to forget that would have tied the game. That and I still think the pass would have been broken up.

Plus, had Sayles just knocked the ball down like he should have it was drive over a few plays earlier.

I don't care what would've happened if the ball hadn't hit the crossbar.... idiots like to say the Bombers got lucky... I say the Riders luck finally ran out... on that final drive there was the Sayles almost pick that would've ended the game... BA almost had a pick that would've ended the game... if Fajardo holds on to that "incomplete" a split second longer, it's a fumble and the game is over... Rider finally stopped fluking that final drive.

I think you need 7-8 guys who can play really.  Dobson and Eli we’re hopeful for.  They haven’t had a ton of reps and a ton in different situations.  I’d really count them as one of five right now.  Other one is your spare.

Americans we’re not really sure of aside from Bryant, if he stays healthy.

Injuries become the issue.  Last year was pretty good on that front, but we’ve had years where starters are missing for significant period.  Risk of that rises with age of course.

if you're talking about just interior Canadians... I'd say need is a strong word... if that's the case, the Bombers have had poor OL depth the past 5 season

    Wrong

I actually think you're wrong here... the problem with Jackson wasn't his contributions as a fullback... it's that he was taking up a DI spot on a position that easily could've been filled by a Canadian rookie... if his passport was different (even Global), I don't think anyone would've had a problem with him

Kyle Walters cries poor every year and every year he's got money for what we need.

thank you for being the first to point this out (I've been busy for a couple days)... everyone seems to be forgetting Walters says this every year

I'd also like to know what some people consider good OL depth?... Bombers currently have 4 quality Canadian interior OL, that can start... hopefully add a blue chip prospect in the draft and we'll be fine... how many other teams can boast that?... Riders would love to have one, never mind 4...

You're reading way too much into that.  I said the right price - meaning whatever works for the team.

While I would like to see a proven DT like Baron brought in, I doubt it happens as DT is clearly a spot Walters isn't willing to overpay for since we've let one walk year after year (Stove, Sayles & now Walker).

We all know Walters commits certain dollars to certain positions… if I had to guess, American DT is a position that is usually reserved for minimum salary, or close to it… Stove, Sayles, and even Walker were all let go once they were due a big raise

Credit to @EdTait for digging this up and putting it in his latest 1st and 10: https://www.bluebombers.com/2024/02/09/first-10-free-agency-preview-2/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Cool sound bite from long-time NFL executive and former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff about Blue Bombers coach Mike O’Shea during a visit with B.C. Lions play-by-play voice Bob Marjanovich at the Super Bowl this week in Las Vegas:

^^ Former Falcons GM believes there is at least SOME interest in Mike O'Shea among NFL GM's.... (as a DC or possibly more...)

I’ve always liked Dimitroff and love that he pumps up the cfl… but I just don’t ever see this happening… O’Shea has zero experience in American football and has never been a DC at any level, never mind the highest level of football there is… I think it’s great that a CFL hall of fame player and future HoF coach is being talked about among nfl circles… but I think he’s here (cfl) for life.

I don't like Friesen but Jeffcoat says that article accurately captures the situation.

Sucks to move on from Jeffcoat but it's time. That 2019 Grey Cup from him and Willie was one for the ages.

The quotes from Jeffcoat are all good… the real hacky stuff is when Friesen clearly tries to paint this picture of “Jeffcoat and Willie are equal (based solely on sack stats) so why the the BB rush to sign Willie and throw Jackson to the curb?”… anyone with the slightest bit of insights can recognize they are very different players with different roles…

enough about annoying hacks that mail it in…

now is the time to celebrate a dominant player who gave his heart and soul to our city and our team… thanks to Jackson for 6 awesome years with the bombers… one of my favourite players over that time… I just hope he stays in shape just in case we need some DE depth come playoff time 😁

Not that it matters but I was hoping strev would take #16. It’s just such a perfect QB number, I can’t explain why.
Same reason fast RB’s should be #22 and power backs #32. It used to drive me nuts that Freddy Reid wore 32 lol

This is a VERY specific take... I've always been a fan of the traditional numbering system (90s = DL, 80s = WR, 60s = OL, etc)... but that a specific number should not only go to a specific position, but a specific type of player... is a little odd... any reason for this stance?

Haven’t heard that he definitely is, just a lot of posters here talking like he is.  Maybe thinking if they were going to re-sign him they would have done it by now?

I remember seeing somewhere on social media that he was going to test the market (I can't remember the source)... no guarantee he's not back if no one offers more than we are... unless the team has decided to move on

Let’s just assume the usual culprits - Edmonton, Sask and add it Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal, and Calgary because it makes enough sense.

I'm no insider but I have it on pretty good authority the following teams showed interesting in Schoen... BC, Calg, Edm, Sask, Ott, Tor, Mtl, and Ham... prove me wrong
