Not that it matters but I was hoping strev would take #16. It’s just such a perfect QB number, I can’t explain why.
Same reason fast RB’s should be #22 and power backs #32. It used to drive me nuts that Freddy Reid wore 32 lol

This is a VERY specific take... I've always been a fan of the traditional numbering system (90s = DL, 80s = WR, 60s = OL, etc)... but that a specific number should not only go to a specific position, but a specific type of player... is a little odd... any reason for this stance?

Haven’t heard that he definitely is, just a lot of posters here talking like he is.  Maybe thinking if they were going to re-sign him they would have done it by now?

I remember seeing somewhere on social media that he was going to test the market (I can't remember the source)... no guarantee he's not back if no one offers more than we are... unless the team has decided to move on

Let’s just assume the usual culprits - Edmonton, Sask and add it Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal, and Calgary because it makes enough sense.

I'm no insider but I have it on pretty good authority the following teams showed interesting in Schoen... BC, Calg, Edm, Sask, Ott, Tor, Mtl, and Ham... prove me wrong

Looking forward to Brady playing bully ball.

If ZC is slowing down like many of us think he is, then the run game becomes that much more important.

Something that hasn't fully sunk in for me yet.... We're up by a TD with 5 mins left in the game... and now we send BRADY AND STREVELLER on to the field to close it out... good luck other team!

Bet we would not have if Demski and Baily had been healthy. Plus if the D got one stop, we win.

you're absolutely correct... but not the can of worms we need to open now... Let's celebrate Brady signing!

My hope of the dollars aren't too high... but otherwise I already love everything else about this signing.

EDIT: I see the dollars are perhaps a little too high... assuming Farhan is accurate... I don't love that part of it

I'm hyper about Bombers merch. Always on eBay looking for classic stuff. One day I will find the perfect Dunigan 92-94 jersey, which is a bit of a white whale for me.

For this season, I really have to figure something out. My "early 90s-era" Walby jersey, that I adore, finally got signed midway through '22, and I personally believe you should NEVER wear an autographed jersey, so up on the wall it goes. Since then, though, I've been in a rut. I decided on a "Coach Buck" jersey from when he was QB, that I bought off eBay, but it's back to back devastating GC losses in that jersey, so I'm thinking it's going to be retired this year. I have a Harris 33 in white that I've had buried in a closet until he retires.... I have been toying with the idea of making that my game day jersey this year, if he's officially done. I am also due for a new one with a more current player........ Collaros maybe? One of the OL boys (Yosh could be cool)? Demmer the local, who I've loved since his Bison days? Strevolution now that he's back?? Lots of options and I'm torn... but a few months yet to figure it out!

I've been thinking about getting a Big Stan jersey for a while now... I've always felt weird about having the jersey of someone who is younger than me... and with Bryant being the only player on the roster (just barely) older than me and the fact that he's awesome... seems like a good choice... obviously I'll have to change this philosophy if I ever want to get another new player after that...

Bombers can easily pay Oliviera and Schoen.

Means Hardrick is gone.  Which kind of a meh for me.  Looked to me all last season like he was breaking down and had some downright awful games.  Makes our club stronger if someone else is paying him close to 200k.

Means they are moving from both corners.

I could see Bailey and Gray back.  Will depend on their market and Bomber willingness to keep them on roster…that part more for Bailey than Gray.

They could try to go Canadian at RT between Gray and Eli.

what makes you jump to this conclusion? Just the dollars?... I agree with you and I think the club is ready to give Richmond a starting role... but you just seem very confident Hardrick is out.

Well, I guess we'll see.  But the truth is, many of us are skeptical because we've seen this movie before

It happened with Dave Ritchie and it happened with Doug Berry (after the 2007 season)

Then the chickens came home to roost and the team was just not that good

I actually complete agree with your point... I just am not seeing evidence that we're running it back the same way we did from 22 to 23... unfortunately that might include guys we actually want, like Brady and Schoen.

    Not over reacting at all.

just don’t see the vision here. Bringing back the gang never works. Some of our guys are gonna age out by 25 also.

Don't the Bombers have one of the longest unsigned players list in the league... where are people getting this "bringing back the same team" idea from?...

Bombers have 10 picks in the upcoming draft.... and unless they package two of them to move up to grab someone they love... I expect to see 10 new Canadians in camp (yeah, there'll probably be at least one futures pick in there) fighting to knock off the incumbents or other Canadian vets

even in the last games he played he looked rather rotund

I think the last game he ever played in, he received the GC MVP, MOC, and a GC ring... so he was still doing ok at that point

Bennett was an older university player and an older rookie. He's 27 and will turn 28 this year.  I don't think he's getting any better. If we can upgrade there, cut bait.

fun fact... Bennett and Kongbo are the same age

No. This must mean the Als are gearing up to steal Brady. Panic!!!!!

I honestly think the Als are going to try and get Brady and Dalton... 😒

I think it's pretty risky to let players that are willing to re-sign for more or less the same money as last year reach FA, never know what offers they could receive that convince them to leave and screw up the team's continuity and depth.

For instance, say Sask. goes all in on their O-line and decides to offer Gray, Kona and Hardrick $30k more than Walters was planning to pay them.  All of a sudden, the O-line is at risk of losing 3 of it's starting members and has to find replacements, or Walters ends up coughing up more cash than he originally planned to retain them.  This is just a made up example of unexpected things that could happen, I repeat a made up example.

I get the feeling this might be a made up example... but even if it was true... It wouldn't surprise me if the Bombers just decided to roll with Dobson, Eli, and Richmond in their places and let the incumbents walk... then draft a couple OL to fight for the back up spot.

yes...was concurring with you....if we use our DA's properly we can be very deep...Maybe this Global Kicker we signed bumps Castillo out of the picture....and we can use his spot..Jacksons and the 2 others for guys who will enhance the roster...not just fill it.....I have no issues with Castillo at all.....but if you know who chooses to waste a DA spot again all yr, and we use another with the Kicker, then we are really hamstringing our depth

Would this kicker be considered a global?... I know it says he's from Venezuela but if he played in the NFL and XFL would he be an import?

Seems like there wasn't considerable interest in Brown. Ottawa basically willing to give up a 5th in order to get their QB situation sorted out ahead of free-agency.  Winnipeg took what they could get.

Does anyone know who the team teams are that had the most Canadian snaps last year? Those two teams get an extra 2nd round pick.

When I read this I was thinking it's hard to imagine the Bombers don't have one of those picks... we basically ignored the nationalize Canadian rule all season...

I know we're one of them. Ed Tait slipped it into one of his recent articles.

Winnipeg now has 10 selections in the 2024 CFL Draft — each of its picks in every round, a bonus in the second round, 20th overall, as a reward for snaps by Canadian players in 2023 and now Ottawa’s fifth-round choice, 40th overall, secured from the Brown trade. The Blue Bombers will pick 8th, 17th, 20th, 28th, 37th, 40th, 46th, 55th, 64th and 73rd overall.

    Thanks for the answer Jesse.

great moves... only curious thing is keeping Hall around. If you're a new guy trying to put your stamp on the gig, it's a bit awkward having the last guy still there overseeing it...... but I am sure that they've got everyone's blessing and it'll be a relatively smooth transition. All in all this seems like really good moves for the Bombers.

I don't think this move happens without Hall being fully on board.... otherwise he probably would've just been let go...

I'm excited about these changes... Hopefully Younger can build on what works and add some of his own wrinkles in... Hopefully Miller can bring back or bring in a coverage system that actually works better than what we saw the last couple years

His peers voted him CFLPA allstar last year. The guy is still balling. Could he use some platooning....probably couldn't hurt but he's still got game or at least a majority of the guys he plays against think so and I am willing to take their word for it over fans who may or may not have a full understanding of what he bring to the table. Ideally I'd love to see the Bombers bring in his eventual replacement this offseason and gradually work him into a platoon with Bighill to keep him fresh.

I think people are still bitter about Bighill playing in the Grey Cup when he clearly had no business being out there....as positions evolve, we're seeing less and less need for a "traditional" middle line backer, and more just two LB/versatile athlete type players... I think we would be just fine with Cole, Clements, and Wilson as a primary rotation of LBers... but I do expect to see Bighill back in a prominent role next year
