If Boatman is a locker room cancer as some speculate then he'd be welcome in Regina...
funny that the headline is "Riders say no to Buck"... and in the actual article it basically says we don't actually know who turned down who
2 hours ago, JohnnyAbonny said:Yeah, what is O’Shea, like 6 years older than Buck? He could coach for another 10-15 years yet.
I just looked it up... They are actually 11 years apart... Buck is 42 and MOS is 53... nevertheless, O'Shea could easily still coach for another 10+ years

fair enough. Not sure if Wally even tried to sign him....point is Wally moves on from players...we don't see to be able to do that...and it just cost us a ship.
Everyone loves to point out how Wally always made the tough decisions and it made his teams better... but Wally decided not to pursue Bighill when he returned from the NFL and decided a 29 year old Andrew Harris was washed up... those two decisions alone are a big reason why we have our two most recent grey cups

FRIESEN: What was Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea thinking? (msn.com)
Posted this in the Grey Cup thread as well but not sure most here want to go back to that thread...lol...
Rare... but Friesen is 100% correct on this one...

I counted it up and I get 26 appearances since inception of the team. Then there were two appearances by the "Winnipeg RCAF Bombers" in 1942 and 1943 but not sure those count.
Sold... I'll take 12-14... thanks!

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made the most appearances (26), while the Toronto Argonauts have won the most championships (18) and have the best record in the Grey Cup composite standings (18-6). Despite the CFL's brief U.S. expansion era in the mid-1990s, the Grey Cup has never been played outside of Canada. The Baltimore Stallions were the only American team to appear in the Grey Cup (twice, losing in 1994 and winning the following year).
List of Grey Cup champions - Wikipedia
It's Wikipedia, who knows. I just don't think the Bombers have been in 30 Grey Cups, but I'll happily retract that statement if I'm wrong.
funny that both of our sources are Wikipedia... yet they have differing info... but I hope you're right... 12-14 is better than 12-18

I'm no math whiz but the websites I visit say the Bombers have been to 26 GC's and won 12 of them. You've got them going to 4 more GC's then I remember reading about or seeing.
In my lifetime I've seen the Bombers go to 12 GC's, and win five of them. That's not great.
This was my source... is this incorrect?

Against Montreal 24 points should have been plenty.
Let's put it this way... if you told anyone on this site, pre-game, that we would score 24 points and the Als would not score on D or teams.... 100% would agree that's a guaranteed Bomber victory

I was thinking about that last night... in the moment, I was in on the theme, because everyone agreed that last year was a fluke and no chance that's happening again. Well, guess what? Now, I don't want to see any more bullshit about how anything belongs to us or it's our right or blah blah blah. Over the history of this franchise, we choke in the big game. That's our MO... it's who we are. Most appearances in the big game ever, and most losses. So no more of this "where the cup belongs" bullshit.... it never has.
First off... quite emotional still two days later... I know I'm as passionate a Bomber fan as there is... and I'm settled down by now... other than the haunting nightmares of a 3rd and 5 lame duck pass that should've been knocked down... but I digress....
Anyways... yeah the 12-18 record isn't ideal, especially considering we could easily be 14-16... and that's not even considering 2007 (no Glenn), 2001 and 1993 (no Dunnigan)... but, it could always be worse...
Bombers: 12-18 = .400 win percentage
Hamilton: 8-14 = .363 win percentage
Ottawa: 1-2 (yeah I know, small sample size) = .333 win percentageand the cream of the crap... Sask: 4-15 = .211 win percentage 😁

He should have seen Demski in line with his db who had his back turned to the sideline (where Demski is heading). That's an easy read, and easier throw and Demski likely scores.
It was a play where really only one of two things should've happened... TD pass over the top to Lawler... or TD pass underneath to Demski... instead what happened was an underthrown ball to Lawler which lead to a pick...

I reacted with "sad" a lot in this thread... for those posts I reacted to, if you're wonder why... it's not that you're comment was sad or that I disagreed... it's actually the opposite... it's that I agree but it's sad/disappointing/frustrating that it is coming to this (this was easier that quoting like 15 posts)...
It is really the end for Zach as a Bomber?... probably not... but it's becoming very hard to overlook the playoff statistics..
I never truly wanted to believe that O'Shea was hampering the roster with some of his decisions... but playing a clearly injured Bighill was irresponsible... and then the amount of reps that Gauthier was getting in his place... was goddamn mindboggling... Clements and/or Cole should've been getting those reps... you don't rely on a career special teamer to play MLB in the biggest game of the year
The defense just didn't look right all night... they made a few plays here and there but generally got worked over by Cody Fajardo... like, that sentence doesn't even make sense... Cody ******* Fajardo ... how the top D in the league got worked over by a below average QB... in the biggest game of the year... just doesn't sit right
Changes need to be made... Biggie has been a great leader and monumental player over the past 4 seasons... but he is completely done now... ready to move on... not sure who else is definitively done (probably Thomas) ... but I hope our management team makes the right moves and says good bye to a few of the aging vets this offseason
No matter what happens this offseason... I still think the Bombers are the team to beat in the west... we just have to find a way to not lay an egg in the biggest game of the year

No one asks hard questions anymore out of fear they'll lose their press credentials. The days of the media holding the HC & GM's feet to the fire is over.
There are no more Jack Matheson's Don Blanchard's or John Robertson's. They were as smart as the team manager as they'd all covered the Bombers for at least 30 years. Matheson back into the early 50's for the old Winnipeg Tribune. If they wanted to, they could make life miserable for any GM & HC duo if they got on their bad side.
Then on the radio side was Jack Wells who also was hard to fool. Although, he generally had a good relationship with Lunsford & any of the coaches he hired. Being on radio, he could only really give sound bites & not go into anything in great detail. The same in local TV with Don Wittman, Bob Picken & Stew McPherson. Thyey only had maybe 3 or 4 minutes to tell a story about the Bombers before having to move on to other subjects in an 8-10 minute sprtscast.
They all had insider CFL contacts in every city & more importantly were never intimidated by guys like GM Earl Lunsford or any of the many head coaches he hired at the time. And there were a few. If there were tough questions to ask then they all did it.
The only head coach that I remember Jack Matheson & the rest of the media holding in high esteem was Bud Grant after he left. I do remember that Grant was pretty close with most of them. I know Bud shared more than a few drinks after hours with those guys & some of them were his good friends.
Bud Riley never got along with the local media very much. It was always frosty as he never never trusted them. That changed when Ray Jauch was hired. He knew most of them from his time as a player with the Bombers & he won a GC as a Head Coach in Edmonton. When Matheson smelled a story, he was relentless uncovering it. Guys like Earl Lunsford had to treat the media with respect even if he didn't like them. It made for some great reading in both newspapers.
Times are certainly different today. It would be interesting to see the relationship those old media types would have with Mike O'Shea today as he keeps a lot of things close to the vest. I think they'd have a hard time getting info from their sources as the league has closed ranks in a lot of ways to the media. Things aren't as open as they used to be.
This is an odd take… you think if one of the established reporters in Winnipeg (bauming, Hamilton, wyman, etc) asks a tough question, they’ll be banned from the facility?… nothing that’s happened in the ten years that O’Shea has been here leads me to believe that would happen…
if anything… it might be more like the media guys are too afraid to fracture they’re relationship… they’re more concerned about being buddy-buddy than getting the “hard scoop”

With MBT back and all the talk being that some team will sign Steveler to start I am starting to think that Dru Brown may very well opt to stay in Winnipeg. Why leave a good situation when no other team is offering you an opportunity to compete for a starting job?
McLeod bethel Thompson? Who is signing him?
EDIT: I read this thread before reading the thread about him coming back

isn't Kelly also like 30+?? His NFL days are long past, and as stated, he really isn't that good... this MOP award is pure fabrication from a league desperate to make the Toronto market a "Thing"...
Think about what TSN did for Fajardo after the 2019 season... they still literally act like he's a superstar in this league... whether Chad continues to be a good QB... or reverts back to below average... TSN has anointed him a superstar... and they'll keep that train rolling for at least 4-5 more years....

Betts was good at one thing and one thing only. And, he wasn't even good at that in the second half. In fact, the entire BC defense was horrible.
If the Jeffcoat or Jefferson could be as irresponsible as Betts, they would get 20 sacks a season each. But, they're trying to win games, not personal trophies.
Here are the stat lines of two defensive players from the west final:
Player 1: 0 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 knock downs, 0 forced fumbles
Player 2: 2 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 knock downs, 1 forced fumbleOne player is the league's most outstanding defensive player... the other wasn't nominated 😋
There's a lot of anger on this thread... but last night's award ceremony actually made me very happy... I love it when everyone disrespects the Bombers... the Bombers only care about the one trophy that matters... let the other babies have their bottles.

think thats a long shot but wish him well....and thats prob the toughest position to break in at, as there are a buttload of RB's in the U.S who's measurables would blow BO's away...and NFL is so hooked on them and the visual eye teat.
But if he takes a yr doing the wandering around hoping to do a PR thing then frees up money elsewhere, and maybe we can actually bring in an import bell cow on the cheap....and keep all our receivers
Damn you turned that negative into a positive real fast...
Speaking of fast... I agree that Brady's speed would be the biggest hinderance to him getting a real shot... but I hope he gets a TC shot and maybe a little signing bonus for his troubles... worst case scenario (as Booch outlined above) we lose him for a year, he gets some excellent coaching/experience and comes back in 2025 even better and more motivated.

If you find an animated gif off of google or some other page click on it to open it up. Once the picture it is open and animating on your browser, right click on the picture and go to "copy image address" or "copy image link" , then come back here and on the bottom right of the message you should see "insert image from URL". Click that button and then right click and select paste. It should paste the link for your gif into the box. Click the button to insert into post. And that should be it.
Maybe the MODs can somehow just pin this answer somewhere so anyone can review it when needed?

find it intresting/odd/funny in one the matchup advantage articles they gave the Als the DB advantage...even tho we as a defence gave up least points....least yards vs pass....and the least TD against versus the pass....
I guess they had to give Montreal something... since half of their writers think they'll win.
-
I highly doubt the Bombers care much about this... but I got a kick out of the CFL writers splitting the prediction... I'm glad they did... please keep doubting the Bombers...
https://www.cfl.ca/2023/11/15/prediction-time-cfl-ca-writers-110th-grey-cup-picks/
the media is trying so hard to sell us on the Als being complete in all three phases.... I guess they're just completely ignored the offense for the past 2 months

Argo fans on social media are still trying to justify Chad kelly (probably) going to win the MOP Award by saying he was the best qb in the league because his team won 16 games. That's it. They won 16 games. That makes him automatically the best. As if winning the most games had anything to do with it. They don't like the criticism that Kelly is getting from other team's fanbases. Anyone see Bluto, yet?
This is basically how everyone is justifying it... because the stats don't back up him being the best... I'd rank Kelly 3rd, at best, this year behind Collaros and Adams.

So doing a rewatch and have a question. In the second quarter, we go to Lawler in the endzone. DB looks like he trips him but the db also kicks the ball away with his foot, with his leg up like a soccer player. You can kick the ball away like that?
I thought it was pretty accidental... he tripped over Lawler's feet and his foot kicked up... and without the foot there, it's a TD
Having re-watched a bunch of the game... I didn't realize live how much Adams was Fajardo-ing out there... just leaning into that injury as much as possible... just so everyone knows how much of a warrior he is... Suitor was lapping it up

@Taylor Ribbins... unfortunately you father played 10 years before I was born so I'm no use to you... but good luck with your search!
