I knew they had to announce it because there is no way Boltus could sneak out of town.

To me, as the years went on, Calvillo seemed to  take on a more greedy persona. Didn't want to come out of the games, sitting by himself on the sidelines, seemed to be obsessed with smashing CFL passing records. Now, maybe I'm wrong & he is truly a great team guy but the perception was that he played for himself. last season, Under sad sack & clueless Dan Hawkins I think his true colours came out. The waving of the arms, pointing of fingers, the yelling on the bench, the pissed off body language on the field & refusing to take responsibility when the Als lost.... Dan Hawkins may not have been a good CFL coach when he was fired but AC did absolutely nothing & I mean nothing...to help him as his starting qb to become a better coach. Calvillo threw his former coach under the bus. That, more than anything made me lose a lot of respect for the guy. Still, I'd take him as a qb coach & see how he does.

Yea, absolutely. Last time I heard the season doesn't start until June. It would be nice to have new guys in place prior to the draft and FA but that is still a month and a half away.

I attended a lot of that training camp and Paredes was just brutal. Big leg but he was missing everything. Can't blame the Bombers for releasing him. At the time I couldn't understand how he even got invited. Hindsight is 20/20 but the coaches made the right call given the information they had at the time. He rebounded and is doing well...good for him. However, it is ignorant to say that it was a bad decision to keep Palardy over a guy who was shanking everything....especially when you were not around to see what they based their decision on.

Stubler's D left the middle of the field wide open for Durant in the semi likely costing BC the cup in the process. Dodged a bullet as far as I'm concerned.

OC, DC, ST -- in the CFL none are as important as a good QB.

That's what I'm waiting to hear. If we get Macked in the QB department then its officially another bust year.

Bellefeuille is not my first choice but honestly last year was not a fair indication of his abilities as an OC.   I don't care who our OC was last year, with Pierce, Hall, Goltz and a porous O-line.  Even Dave Dickinson wouldn't have been able to get that offence performing at a high level.

O'Shea must have seen something there and I trust that he's not settling with MB.     Let's give MB a full training camp and let him institute his own offence.    Oh and get him a QB that can play.

His stock seems to have fallen because he said he'd only leave Sask if he was a head coach. Coming here as qb coach would be a lateral move for probably less money. The reason I say that is I had a chat a while back with Ray Jones who told me that Chamblin originally hired Khari to be his OC a couple of years ago but Taman overruled Chamblin as he personally promised the job to Bob Dyce in 2012. In order to soothe bad feelings, Chamblin still paid KJ the same money as he'd get if he was an OC. So he came on board as Chamblin's QB Coach. Then, last year Dyce was demoted & George Cortez was hired. So, in that case would Khari really want to come here as QB Coach as I don't believe he'd be paid the same $$ he is getting in Saskatchewan.

Personally, I feel that Stubler has been done for awhile, back to his last couple years in Toronto (07-08).  I'm not a huge fan of the avoid the deep ball but give up most of the rest of the field (including the run) approach, that's how we ended up killing Stubler's defence on route to the 07 Grey Cup game.  CFL offences have evolved (call it the Trestman Revolution), and the deep ball is the lowest percentage throw, the shorter the pass the higher the completion rate.  Offences are all about high percentage plays.  Top OC's will run the ball when they are getting 8-9 YPC.  Defences need to challenge QB's and hold gaps.  The best approach for a defence is more of a hybrid and showing a million different looks so the offence can't safely decide where the ball is going before the snap.  Nobody is having success because of this style of defence in recent CFL history, basically since Stubler and Marshall were the top DC's in the mid-00's.  The only way this defence works is if you have an offence that is going to stay on the field for long stretches.  You could see it's downfall when BC lost Lulay.  It isn't going to create turnovers or 2 and outs.  Toss in Stubler's rumoured health concerns and I'm not that enthused about this rumoured hire, unless Stubler is going to be a consultant or something.

The Ottawa job is suicide IMHO. Expect them to have 2 years of losing before turning the corner, just long enough to get fired and the new guy start to win with the foundation you built.

I'd love to have Higgins here as DC. A rookie HC like O'Shea could really use a guy like that on the sidelines to talk things over with.

I think there could be SOME truth to this. I was actually in favor of inserting Goltz shortly after Boltus just because he's our most experienced guy and I had enough embarrassment. I thought he might be the best candidate for that but the truth is that all our QB's are turnover machines.

Higgins was in town for that game. Do you think the Bombers talked to him? I'd say offer him HC/GM role to finish the year and let him pick his HC for next year. I don't expect any wins out of it but it sends the message to any potential free agents that we are serious about becoming a sane and respectable place to play again.

If you coach scared to lose the players become uncertain and tentative. Show leadership and confidence and the players have a much better chance to succeed. Not only is Burke the worst Bomber coach ever but I now believe him to be the worst head coach I have ever seen in any league.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to Mike in Burke
Burke's attitude is the type of attitude that instills a losing culture in a locker room.

He shows no faith in any of his players, he's a horrible motivator and he is no good at maximizing the talent (no matter its shortcomings) he has at his disposal. I mean really, who can possibly have respect for a head coach who throws his entire roster under the bus by saying "I'm doing the best with what I've got?" How can I respect a guy who doesn't even have the stones to go for a win on his HOME FIELD with 30 seconds and a timeout remaining? Burke may not think much of the roster he has to work with and that's his perogative, but a good coach or even a sensible one would find a way to get the most they could out of that talent by motivating them and sticking by his guys even if they didn't necessarily deserve it. Burke, OTOH, seems content to mail it in and not even try.

We were tied with the ball in our possession last night, our team is 2-9 and while I'm not expecting it to spark some kind of miraculous season turnaround, Burke had a golden opportunity to show his offensive guys that he has trust in them. No one would have blamed him for trying and failing, it's not the end of the world. But instead of taking his guys aside and telling them that he felt they could give it a shot, he basically mailed it in, showed them he doesn't trust them enough to do a damn thing and said "**** it."

How do you think our players feel? Tim Burke literally could not trust them for 30 seconds because apparently he thought the most likely result was a turnover. What the hell is that? If that's the attitude he's going to coach with, we may as well forfeit.

    It's absolutely embarrassing.

FWIW, I heard a few stories from the Legacy Dinner the other night. Couple conversations with some of our stronger defensive players and apparently it was a good chance to get their honest thoughts instead of the "proper" media replies. I bet you can guess what they think of Tim Burke and his coaching staff. I'll give you a hint. It's the same thing I think of them.

Burke has to go and the sooner the better. when you try and pull a player off the field and he refuses and then you don't even bench the player for the rest of the game that's just unacceptable behaviour. The team isn't listening to Burke so why are we letting this persist?

I would agree, that would be his biggest fault.

But Lapo was not a bad coach. He was a rookie sure and a little high strung, but he certainly wasn't a dud.

I think had Mack found him better players (esp at QB), made some decent trades, and didn't meddle with the roster, Lapo's teams would've performed a lot better.

JohnnyOnTheSpot reacted to iso_55 in Note To Miller: Please Don't Do Anything Too Soon And Too Drastic
What scares me is I read in the Winnipeg Free Press is that Kyle Walters is going to be doing his best to impress Miller to become the permanent GM of this team. This is something nobody wants. A guy like Walter in his 30's with no experience running the team trying to impress his boss. That'll mean trying to pull off a trade for a qb. If Miller hires this guy to be the permanent GM, it'll be the biggest mistake he could make.
