The 49 per cent of snaps restriction on Nationalized Americans replacing Canadians was in the CBA MOU. However, it’s impossible to apply a 49 per cent standard when you don’t know how many snaps will take place in a game. Hence the change to 23 snaps per game. Got it? Lol.

The Nationalized Americans cannot “start” but can come into the game on the second snap of their side of the ball. They are restricted to 23 plays per game replacing designated Canadian players. Any other snaps they play must be in place of Americans. Crazy confusing, I know.

 

For context, Calgary has listed Carey as a backup and BC has listed Rhymes as a backup. 

This is maybe the dumbest rule yet and that’s saying something for the CFL.  At this point just let everyone on the roster play.  The foot in the door for the Canadian guys who maybe would get overlooked is the roster spot.

Since all punishments are after the fact, you may as well. 

Someone like Jones will just take the fine and move on. 

It’s going to be interesting to see how the qbs in new cities do. 

Adding crazy confusing rules like this will only make it more difficult to attract new fans. Great job CFL.

Apparently the CFL *is* going to be tracking "Designated Nationalized Americans" in game. The game official is going to give warnings to teams when they are down to 5 snaps and fewer.

So knowing that Carey and Rhymes are going to be full time players after the first play, the net effect of this will be players like T Williams & Logan will be able to play 23 plays in place of Canadians

This rule.....lol.... It's surprisingly stupid...until you realize the league it's for. Where do you even start with it?

Wonder who it will be for Bombers.

On O probably makes most sense for it to be Bailey, I'm pretty sure he qualifies although they've never said if it's based on games active or if PR time counts.

On D could be Bighill, Jefferson/Jeffcoat or Alexander.  All make sense in some way.  An end might make the DL rotation a little easier.  The other guys usually don't really leave the field but if someone got injured at LB or DB it could help out.

BC has their defensive nationalized American lined up behind a Global on the depth chart.  Does he get 23 snaps replacing a Global/Canadian or what?

yes it will.... how do you think it will go?

I think Bo Levi arm or shoulder was kind of worn out two years ago. I do not think he can do it any more.  no jinx, but I think/hope to see some int by Bomber D this Friday.

I think blm is toast. fajardo might do a bit better in the soft east division but still not great. I think Dane will take over in bc but falter in the end same as always. 
 I think our D will play well. Secondary should be really good. Darby looks as good as ever. I expect to see some blm on the turf and getting mad on the sideline.  

I would assume our designation on O will be Bailey and Agudosi will start so then Agudosi can come in for Wolitarsky 23 snaps a game and then Grant will be the other starter and Wolitarsky can come in for Grant 37 snaps a game so that Grant can play for Demski on 12% of the snaps that Oliviera is on the sidelines so that Neufeld can line up at running back which will free up Schoen to play QB.

As a lifelong fan of the CFL, for my sanity I need to pretend like this rule doesn't exist. Sorry guys 

I love watching the CFL, but sometimes the rules do baffle me lol.

It's a classic CFL solve a problem that doesn't exist move.

Like in the late 2000s when they basically made it illegal to block on special teams because the plays were just too exciting.  They had a series of rule changes that lasted a year or less.  Maybe just leave it alone?

As a newer CFL fan, I've always found the ratio rules to be quite perplexing. I've struggled to grasp their intricacies and underlying logic. Now, with the recent changes to the rules this year, I must admit that my motivation to understand them has waned even further. It seems like a complex labyrinth that I may never fully navigate. Perhaps I'll just resign myself to enjoying the game without delving too deep into the intricacies of the ratio rules.

Can somebody smarter than me explain how we can use this to our benefit on the ratio? Like could C.Thomas start at DT with Walker as the nationalized Canadian? Than Walker can rotate with CT but sub in for Jake or Schmekel too?

it's all about trying to guarantee as much Canadian Content as possible, while rewarding players who stay with one team for an extended period....... in theory. But, as mentioned, they're making it WAY too complicated.
