CFL - Pre-Season - All Your Non-Bomber News/Talk - 2023

Better get this one going...

2023 RATIFIED RULE CHANGES

The requirement for the ball to be touched prior to ruling a rouge on a kickoff has been removed.

  • This change aligns the rouge rule on kickoffs with all other types of kick plays.

A safety has been added to the options for holding in the team’s own goal area.

  • When a team commits a holding foul in their own goal area while in possession of the ball in their goal area, a safety has been added to the options available to the other team.

The defensive formation has been restricted on kick plays.

  • The number of players within two yards of the line of scrimmage on either side of the long snapper has been restricted to a maximum of six players at the snap.
  • This restriction does not apply if the offence lines up in an unbalanced line or if an offensive player moves or motions from their initial position.
  • This restriction only applies to field goal and kicked convert attempts.
  • This change is in the spirit of player safety to avoid grossly overloading the defensive line on one side of the long snapper.

Avoidable contact with an official

  • It shall be illegal for a player, or an authorized member of a team bench area, to make avoidable contact with an official.
  • This includes providing a safe workspace by keeping the sidelines clear during play. Officials cannot properly officiate a game if their attention is being diverted to the sidelines in hopes of avoiding collision or injury.
  • When an official is contacted by a player, or an authorized member of a team bench area, officials will be permitted to check with the command centre to assist with a judgment as to whether contact was “avoidable” and if so, a 10-yard objectionable conduct penalty will be applied.
  • This change will allow the officiating staff to call these actions confidently with command centre help. It will also bring much needed attention to the requirement of providing a safe workspace for officials.
  • This change complements and builds upon existing rules regarding contacting officials that may result in ejections.

Move the drive start position up five yards in additional scenarios:

  1. Section 5A – If a kicked ball strikes the goal post assembly in flight and when Team B intercepts a ball or recovers a fumble in their own goal area, the next point of scrimmage will be the 30-yard line.
  2. Section 5B – Penalty applications with fouls in the goal area will be applied from the 30- or 15-yard line dependent upon the foul.
  3. Section 6C – When a penalty or ruling awards possession of the ball to the opponent, the point of possession will move up 5 yards.
  4. These changes align the drive start adjustment made in 2022 with other scenarios.

Teams cannot have players wear 0 and 00

Players shall be identified by the following numbering:

  • Eligible receivers will wear numbers 0 or 00-49 and 70-99.
  • Ineligible receivers will wear numbers 50-69.

Having two players on the same team wearing 0 and 00 creates significant issues with the statistical and scouting systems the teams deploy. This change allows only one player from each team to wear the number 0 or 00.

What about Tony Burnett?

sure glad we dont have to deal with that kind of nonesense

Yep.  Our guys call each other out all the time if one of them starts dogging it, and that kick in the ass is always enough because our guys are FIFO. Kongbo tried to bring some accountability to the Lions and got turfed for doing it. LMAO. I feel bad for Kongbo...sort of...it was his choice to sign there,.

That's why I don't see the Lions winning the West. The word "Me" usurps the word "Team". I saw it last year at times with Nathan Rourke whom I felt was thinking that he was just a little too good for the CFL, the off season with Dominique Rhymes complaining publicly about the monetary value of his contract & now with Keon Hatcher getting into it with Kongbo on Twitter. Not a very united locker room. Like GCn20 said, this would never happen here.

Noticed Sean Whyte chimed in. Guy who was too chickenshit to play in Winnipeg because he was worried fans would boo him.

The Twitter drama surrounding the BC Lions foretell a path of challenges and waning performance, hinting at a disarray of discipline and an impending spell of ill fortune for the team.

As an observer from afar, I relish in the prospect of misfortune for the BC Lions.

All this crap going on in BC makes me fee; sorry for the new owner and the Lions' fans who had a brief time to start to like their team again.

Looking at Keon Hatchers twitter and woof.

Retweeting Andrew Tate and Daily Wire "What is a Woman". BC Lions PR should probably have a sit down with him.

Love how we can say with certainty that Kongbo is the good guy in this based off a few tweets.

We have no idea what transpired.

For me it’s good enough to know kongbo was a fifo guy and beloved by the coaching staff in Denver, and that bc has shown signs of toxic crap.
Kongbo was also considered to be a very high character guy back to his days with the vols.

Sure, but **** happens. Things change. Egos change. It's all speculation. I hope that to be the case but nothings definitive. It's all off a few tweets

I'm just saying maybe it's a good idea to refrain from judge jury and executioner until we know the facts

If he just put them on blast out of nowhere, I might agree with you but it didn't start on his end.

The Lions used their unofficial mouth piece in Farhan to put it out there that he was bad for their culture.   He just responded as most would if their character was attacked.

Exactly.

Also - nothing about the Lions  screams “great culture”.

They act like clowns .

Yup...a team that tries to start crap in parking lot after a game...like they did in cgy last yr to me screams issues and lack of culture and solid leadership

Also from his time here Kongbo was nothing but a hard worker and solid teammate and from all accounts still is

He actually tweated a day before all this happened "winning takes commitment"

So was he kinda cryptically putting out notice to teammates to buck up??

A 2 time champ who survived in the Bomber locker room with no issues whatsoever...and that culture and work and team first...ya I will give him the benefit of doubt

Farhan reported that Kongbo didn't react well to finding out he wasn't starting - said a bunch of stuff to other players and coaches.

I don't know guys, I kind of believe that.

TLDR: BC sucks

That's fair. But I believe you are forgetting the fact that BC does indeed suck.

I'm biased because I believe Kongbo is a starter. Fans usually forget that every player believes they're a starter as well...as they should. So to come to an organization where maybe your starters aren't putting in work like you are, or like you are used to seeing (remember Russ W was working out on a flight) AND they're getting reps over you. I can see why that would rub a competitor the wrong way. IMO that's they kind of attitude you want in a locker room. Work as hard as me or you're going to hear about it!

Also people should keep in mind, this is the first drama aroud Kongbo...ever? Even his college teammates/coaches only had positive things to say about the guy.

IF Kongbo was a crap disturber or anti-fifo he sure didn't display it here....We wouldn't have wanted him back if he wasn't a good fit....Don't forget B.C. is his home and I am pretty sure he would've done everything he could to make it work there...Didn't happen and you have to think there was a concerning problem and he wanted out....Sure was being paid well so something else must have taken place for him to leave.....In any event ....not our concern....Kongbo is probably regretting his decision to sign with the leos....too late now
