It's venture capital. They know it will take time before they see payback but they hope that they can last long enough.

The amount of people who engage in dumb money is crazy.

People forget that Amazon wasn't profitable for nearly 20 years.

NCAA is already their feeder league.

The NFL over all doesn't need a feeder league. That said, some positions like OL have really struggled with modern athletes. Too many of those guys go to the DL instead. Thats part of the failing in the XFLs claims of how many guys went to NFL camps. Thee NFL only cares about finding stars. They don't care if you produce TCF. They aren't going to be missing guys, or have significantly worse guys in the last 10 TC spots either way.

The football talent pool at many positions is so deep that many players need multiple recycling leagues. Dbs, rbs, wrs, Lbers, k/p, DE, all have tremendous talent fall between the cracks every year. The players need the chance. The NFL doesn't soo much need them to be pushed back up. Qbs, and OL especially are always in great need in every league. But the talent pools are thinnest in those spots and that has massive negative effect on leagues watchability.

If any one needs more waste catch leagues, it is the CFL. In the long term it is always us that benefits from these start ups. Most of the guys who succeed in these leagues wont go up and stick in the NFL. They will end up here, for the money eventually if they are good enough.

You can say that the NFL doesn't need the XFL or a feeder league but here's the list of XFL players that signed in the NFL this year:

https://www.xfl.com/xfl-to-nfl#:~:text=From XFL to NFL,making those dreams a reality.

There are 63 players on that list and does not include the USFL signees.

Seems like they do kind of need a feeder league.

or just scout better and not rely on their politics of how they determine a roster, also a good chance if those money losing leagues were not functioning...a lot of those guys may have been in Canada, and if they were good enough to garner a look...they would have been spotted

How many starts/games played though?  How many of those guys would've been in an NFL camp with out the XFL? Just like say MBT bounced team to team TC to TC year after year. They'll take it, but if any thing it is just at the cost of guys from the previous years camp cuts. Also remember the NFL PR has expanded a lot this year. If it wasn't for the XFL those spots would still be filled. And with out the XFL generating significant starters etc, it's just front running the other sources players would be signing from.

If I was one of those leagues, I'd cut in on college teams. Take kids from HS with out college experience. You'd need to develop some, but you would certainly get out in front of some higher talent with out school grades and providing a pay cheque. And you'd catch some significant talent from better CC teams, and guys who just cant do post-secondary education.

you're confusing the idea of need versus want.  The NFL doesn't need a feeder league, it would carry on just fine without the XFL/USFL but if someone can impress with some game film, why not?

Interesting concept, and one which would actually unearth a ton of talent...See it first hand with kids we work with in Cali we try to place, whom can't qualify for NCAA teams for various reasons, and in many instances can't afford, or have the ways and means to get on a JUCO team, or be funneled over to Europe....and It's too bad as there is a ton of talent that won't get a sniff because they only have highschool talent.

We will also forward names to Premiere Prospects International ...prob recognize Brandon Collier name who spear heads that avenue in Europe to get guys looks for possible scholarships, there are a ot of guys like Stiggers from the Argos out there with next to no post highschool experience, but can play

I think only one player made the 53-man roster. A punter with the Packers

I always thought a junior football league like the CHL would work in the states and have a system in place where they can pay players but also have money put aside for them to go to university after their playing career.

Its even worse in the deep south. It is soo easy for kids to fall between the cracks no matter how talented.

Thats pretty cool, its interesting to see how many cfl guys are working in Europe the last decade.

Mike sellers was iirc 18 or 19 when he came up to the CFL with edmonton the first time. His career likely never would've happened the way things work now.

yeah....classic case...If not for the CFL he would never been anything

And also, you would be surprised how many Canadians, and also Americans with ties to the CFL are working in Europe or recruiting ...Ambrosie for all his deficiencies was kind of ahead of the pack in regards to a lot of the Global aspect of things, and the opportunity and partnership there

There were more than a few guys in the 80s and 90s who came direct from JUCOs like Sellers and Juran Bolden.  CFL might scouting there more again and encouraging guys out to tryouts if the spring leagues continue.

so much talent in JUCO...a lot of guys would be NCAA Div 1 stars if not for sad circumstances....pushed thru system...criminal issues from environment they came from, but good kids just screwed over

Have worked with a ton, and got many of them work-outs with pro teams, and contacts to European teams, if Ambrosie wanted to start an initiative it would be to have a system in place to help some these guys and create a league developmental roster of players, in a hub city where they train, and play controlled games, it would blow your minds the talent that you would attract....guys who want the chance and deserve it, but have no avenue

Soo true. And yeah lots of kids that need a chance.

Man it’d be great if we took a page out of the xfl book and signed a bunch of guys as a league brought them up had a rookie camp / combine then a junior draft with those guys. It can be soo hard to cover all that ground for regional scouts especially with the football ops cap.
That could be the huge shot of talent at qb that the cfl really needs.

totally....there is a huge pool of talent in the south, but it's not hardly even having the surface scratched. I doubt we even send scouts to JUCO schools , and those schools are filled with guys in their 20's looking to try and continue their career...there is no clock or age restriction, so some of those guys would jump at a chance to actually make money playing pro ball....and many could if they were giving the opportunity, or just a chance to get seen....I'd be sending a scout to all the JUCO schools out west, above and beyond holding free agent camps

My son played qb for the College of the Siskiyous, a D1 Northern California JUCO school from 2010-12. They were undefeated in 2012 & won a State Championship. He got scouted by Texas Tech, Colorado School of Mines, University of Toledo as well as New Mexico State , California University of Pennsylvania & SFU. All the other schools backed out on National Signing Day except for SFU. He was also ready to go to Cal Penn as they offered him a football scholarship so all the tuition was free but the College president refused to waive the International fees as Tyler was from Calgary. My wife & I didn't have the $35,000 a year cost for fees so that fell through.

Toledo pursued him the most. The coaches there said Tyler was their guy & he expected an offer from them. Then the entire coaching staff got fired a few days before & the scholarship offer was off the table. He had already said no to The Colorado School of Mines. The other schools went in other directions  except for SFU. It's unbelievable how amazing opportunities one day can be ripped from your grasp in just a day.

Tyler in a panic signed with SFU instead of talking to his Head Coach who had connections & may have been able to help him sign somewhere a few days or weeks later. Signing with SFU & not seeking advice from his JUCO Head Coach was a huge mistake. SFU had the worst D2 college program anywhere. No surprise football was shut down there. What a horrible experience. Three head Coaches in 3 years. Three OC's & three QB coaches. Guys transferring out every year. Live & Learn, I guess.

If he had been scouted at JUCO, would Tyler have wanted to sign with a CFL team? I'm sure he would have.

Yup...story of many....too bad too

It's such a pool of talent there and some great coaches too....worked with a lot of kids/young men at Diablo Valley college to get to Div 1' and potential NFL shots...

It seems like the first CFL team to really started scouting Juco could be sitting on a proverbial goldmine.

Imo the team doing it the most is Toronto. But it’s still a fraction of what it could be. Also hs senior scouting.

Cfl, small budgets, tons of places aren't being scouted.

The front office cap has been a nightmare. All the money is going to the top billed jobs. Not to the badly needed scouts. It needs serious addressing. Cfl self scouting has gotten pathetic as well.

It was disappointing. When Tyler got to SFU & the coaching carousel began, he could have gone into the Transfer Portal but he didn't want to. He wanted to stay where he was. I think if he had to do it over he would have transferred. He was competing for playing time with another qb from Phoenix who had transferred in to SFU from North Dakota State.  They both shared playing time for 2 years.

The cap won't be going away anytime soon thanks to Randy Ambrosie & the CFL Board of Dinosaurs.
