2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition

So, looking ahead....what's our off season going to look like? Coaches and GM all still under contract, right? Players? Who's going to the NFL? Who do we think might bolt in FA? Pieces that we'd like to see the WBB pick up in FA?

Fact: Here's the post that started it all:

As you can plainly see, I said middle of the road which, as I've explained before doesn't mean mediocre no matter how many times you pretend it does. (Fact: You're the one moving the goalposts)

We were above average for the first third of the season and we were below average at least for the last third of the season. Averaged together, we were middle of the road. (Fact: A reason for being below average doesn't change the fact that we were below average at that time.)

Fact: Our defense was great, but not good enough to create many wins in the last third of the season until Collaros took over at QB. The defense didn't change, the QB did.

You're confusing facts and opinions again. Any team that loses 4 out of 5 games, especially down the stretch when they don't have first place locked up, isn't 'well above mediocre' and doesn't even make it to middle of the road territory.

FTR: It's rare to be able to pinpoint one trade, one player one thing that turned a season around. 2019 was one of those situations. The Collaros trade, brought in the one player we needed to turn the season around. The team visibly flipped a switch when Collaros scrambled and threw the TD pass in the last game of the season. After that, they were unbeatable. Before that they were a middle of the road team hanging on to 3rd place and hoping that Streveler would get healed enough to win a playoff game.

Yet another argument that didn't need to happen, but that's the off season for you.

Jeeeeeezzzuuuussss…… Who gives a shiiiiiiiitttt!?  Move on man.  Why do you get off on this constant bickering in every thread you post in?  Enough already.

We were the second winningest team in the league under Calgary from 2016-2019. We were always a piece or two away from making a big run any given year. In 2019 we had our best overall roster in the O’Shea/Walters era at that point but unfortunately Nichols never really recovered from his previous injury and once he got hurt again we went on a run. Collaros was exactly what we needed to get over the hump, we just needed someone who could move the pocket, make the smart throw, and occasionally keep them honest by going deep. I’m convinced the 2017 version of Nichols would have gotten it done as well. By no means was Collaros the saviour of the franchise although he was good in 2019, and very good in 2021.

As per usual,no deets on numbers?

Farhan crying inside because everyone is extending and not even testing the market :)

Which tells you one year deals should be eliminated. Most players want to sign for longer. The CFL & CFLPA have to rectify this asap. Work out something in the CBA both sides can live with so players can stay put longer.

Surprised it was a 1 year for Collaros. I really thought, even if only for optics, it would be a minimum 2 year deal.... Just glad (tho not surprised) that he's back!

Dead of winter, Bighill signs and I'm feeling warmer ZC signs and it's like come on melt snow and lets this show on the road

Kyle was on CJOB, said Bighill and Collaros have the same agent. I’m not surprised both got signed same day.

If they have the same agent, then maybe we got Collaros for an equally ridiculously low amount. That 160K for Bighill is honestly about 65K below what he could have commanded. Awaiting the cries of “money under the table to cheat the salary cap” from other teams.
